Hi All,

I was gone today from +1 to +11. DM checked on Jetta twice today, at +4 and at +7. She said she was fine and eating well all day. Well, I got home at +11 to find vomit, blood, and poo everywhere. Close inspection of the poo/LB revealed she was constipated, and I'm not sure she's all emptied out now. I went ahead and shot since she's 381, but I hear her tummy making noise, so now I"m worried she won't eat. Is that a problem?????

She was never once in her life constipated until her FD dx. This is the 2nd really bad episode in a month. What do you all use to help avoid constipation?

Here's a quick synopsis of her foods/meds so you don't have to dig for the info.
Eats- 3 rotating varieties of FF classic with water added to it at each feed.
Meds- 1 ML Budesonide daily, 1/4 Pepcid as needed, on .25F u insulin.

Binks gets 1/8 tsp of Miralax mixed in his food twice a day...
works like a charm.

I read a lot of info at felineconstipation.org. You should see a vet to make sure Jetta isn't blocked still. Blood isn't good.

We tried pumpkin, and mirilax/restoralax with Maverick and the vet prescribed cisapride for colon motility. Maverick had enemas at the vet to clear him out and we learned to do these at home with specific infant ones. OTC enemas can be toxic to cats. Also suppositories. But if Jetta is bleeding I wouldn't risk either at home, especially without not seeing a vet.

Pure pumpkin - not pumpkin pie filling. And restoralax/mirilax - this will keep water in the colon. It won't work on what is already in the colon though. A different fiber source might be needed also. The switch to canned food actually caused Maverick's constipation issues.

Miralax seems to be the favorite. 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon twice a day will help. I do agree with Karrie -- I'd get Jetta in to see the vet and discuss options. Many people here do give their cats Miralax on a regular basis to help keep their cats, well, regular.

Thank you Sienne Karrie and Celi. She's not actively bleeding now, seems it came with the stool she passed earlier. I feel awful for not having been home. I'll watch her close tonight and phone the vet in the morning.

Will she be OK since I shot if she doesn't eat? Since I shot her ~30 minutes ago, she has no interest in food.
 
I don't know about shooting without food. I haven't had a diabetic cat since early April and I'm not a dosing advisor.

Is Jetta vomiting at all? Definitely get the mirilax. Have you noticed diarrhea? Did something change recently when Jetta started getting constipated? Is Jetta hydrated? (slippy gums not tacky gums, and skin bounces back quickly).
