Morning all!
I have a question on neuropathy.
I know we can reverse the symptoms with the methylcolbamine b12 , I've done that. but is it ever really gone. Is it like the diabetes (once a diabetic, always)
Is the b12 a permanent supplement? Shadow is doing great now , it seems to have stopped the progression. I'm asking if we keep using it for the rest of their lives?

Shadow is doing great. She does sleep a lot.
Yesterday she wanted in one of the closets which of course are quite full. I found her an empty space in the top of the linen closet
and helped her get way up there. She stayed all day.
She did give me a funny look when I showed up with a step stool and the testing stuff, that was her +4.5 yesterday. There is no escape.

Hope everyone has a good day today! Healing vines for all who need them...

going back to bed for a bit.

Beautiful amps for Shadow
Rhiannon, I thought I was the only one who went to weird places to test the cat. Mostly I have to get down to his level,
not climb a ladder to get at him.
No escape, indeed. :-D

Rhianon, to share Rosy's experience on neuropathy: Rosy was dx'd in Dec 11. She was not regulated & was eating dry knibbles + canned at that time. Her DM worse off quickly & I noticed Rosy walking on her hocks in Feb. I started the Zobaline B12 in March; one pill each day. No improvement at all. Since last month, I've started her on 2 pill each day. Still no improvement. I blame it to the fact that she is not regulated. Ive read from here that some cats have great result from the B12 but not Rosy, so far.

HI Rhiannon & Shadow,

Lovely green this morning, Junior is a little higher, hoping for green midday.

As far as Neuropathy, Junior had terrible problems with his back legs, we got him started on methylcobalim b-12, Zobaline for Cats from Life Link, and within weeks it worked, he still gets one tablet daily, and is climbing his tower again, junping on the bed, and even jumped to the counter once, got scolded, but he did it!

it was a little while after diagnosis that we started, but it worked quite well and quickly, or so it seemed at the time.

Good luck with Shadow and the Neuropathy.

and enjoy a little longer in bed!

I edited my original question.
I was asking if we are to all continue using the B12/methycolbamine for the rest of their lives?

Another lovely surf for Shadow!

MethylB12 aids in the regeneration of the nerve cells that were damaged by hyperglycemia. Nerve cells are slow to regrow. That's why it take awhile to see the effect, but once the FD is under control there should be no further damage to the nerves, so it would seem there is no need to continue. Continuing the B12 certainly won't hurt until you know for sure. I haven't for any articles that discuss that however. Here is a link for a good explanation of neuropathy.

I don't know the answer to that question. Have you asked the vet?

I know you do alot of research. Have you seen Laurie and Jasper's Website? She has alot of references and information
regarding feline diabetic neuropathy. Have you posted on Health? Someone there might know.

If you do find out, it would be great to know especially if there are some references. :-D

I don't have any input about the B12, but will be very interested to hear what the answer is...

Omigosh, you made me laugh out Loud with the top of the linen closet hidey hole and then giving you a funny look about testing story... silly girl! She forgot that you had helped her get there and knew where she was!! maybe?... just sooo cute! cat_pet_icon

Re: 9/24 Shadow AMPS 83 +2.5~89 +5~74

It's my understanding that early stage diabetic neuropathy can be reversed. Often, getting a cat regulated is sufficient. So, in answer to your question, giving methyl B-12 would not be necessary as a life long supplement.

Re: 9/24 Shadow AMPS 83 +2.5~89 +5~74

Moonie has had neuropathy & walks on her hocks since we came here, it was one of the reasons we came here--Despite the fact that she walks on her hocks, she can jump on the bed, onto her cat condo, pulls herself up on some things, and is really quite mobile for her!! YES she will be on for the rest of her life,
as I would hate to see what would happen without it--It has helped her immensely she is really pretty Fast
on her hocks!!--It is a B12 derivative, couldnt hurt..ANOTHER Thing that helps the neuropathy in many cats is getting them regulated...That also helps the condition in some cats..
Try not to think of things as being forever, Be Here Now! Ypu are doing such a good job...

Shadow has been doing great with wonderful numbers today--This is excellent..Hope Shadow gets better & better..Hugs & Love from us!

Nice green surf for Shadow today. So funny on testing her in the linen closet. Sometimes we have to go to where the cat is to get those tests in.
