Yesterday's Condo

Every hair on her body is screaming "I DO NOT WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME" and she is cowering when she sees me coming for her. What a character she is! She has convinced Shadow to avoid me too...and we had a hide and seek session under the dining room table and chairs. He is so funny! What changed him for the boy who jumped up on the testing towel at shot time? Raja changed him!!!

She used to wait patiently while I tested Shadow before meals. She knew that I needed a number from him. Now, I have to grab her first and get her number all over again. Just like old times, Raja!! We did get a blue last night and then again this morning! This morning, she is 2 points higher than her brother but again, I didn't mention it to her. :lol: She beat him last night at 3 am...so it's kinda a funny thing now. They were never in the same universe as far as numbers went in the past.
I haven't had a talk with her since I am waiting for the results this morning from the vet. I will know what is happening after the call and we will have a mother-daughter talk then when I have some info. She always likes the "facts" cause that's the kind of girl she is. :lol: Still, there are no obvious symptoms of anything....maybe she just needs a little insulin for a little while. If there is no infection present, I will continue along this way. I will post any news when I get it...

Hope you all have a great Friday! This is the last one in September....time is flying by...
Next week at this time I will be getting ready for my 5pm flight out of town. Oh, BTW, the Harvest Moon Ball was wonderful! they are all coming back tonight to "clean up" even though there is nothing to really clean up...it's just an excuse for another get together....they love each other so much... :mrgreen:

You just paint such a great picture. There you are a 3AM crawling around on the floor under tables trying to corral kitties.

Hoping for good news for Raja. (Istill think she wanted her own condo. She is no doubt rethinking this as we speak)

Are you hoping for a tiny infection or inflammation of some sort, to explain Raja's bg number? Medicate it and it's over? Does she know something is up with your trip? You know, anxiety. These cats are so smart. Checkers knows when I'm going out, and hides. I walk faster, and change routine in home. Just a thought.
You'll tell us what you hear from vet, right?

Poor Raja - life was fine when she would watch Shadow get poked and prodded and she would get treats, but now that she has to get poked....oh boy....

It's the same at my house, everyone sits around staring at me, waiting for Sydney to get her asthma treatment so they can get their treats!

Would you like Maui to talk with her? Maui is all about, just do what you need to do and BRUSH ME NOW! kind of girl. Of course I haven't tested Maui in months, but that doesn't stop the brush me demands.

it seems so odd to have a condo for Raja - perhaps she just needs a refresher course, and once done will be back at the falls. We all await the vet report. I hope for good news.

Well, we all they are smart, right? But sometimes I am knocked completely over!!
The new Pet sitter was here. I showed her where Shadow was hiding...behind the vertical blinds...right up next to the slider. You really cannot see him at all. I call it "Shadow's Terrace" cause it is the closest he gets to being outside. LOL.
I turned and said to her "And sometimes Raja goes behind the tv which is catty-corner here but she hasn't been behind that in so so so very long...." We went to sit down across the room. Can you guess what I am going to tell you now???? :o
I looked back across the room...and guess who was going behind the darn tv?????? :shock:

No suitcases are out yet, so I don't know how she knows that we are going away. BUT, judging from the above story, I guess she has just overheard me talking. Simple as that! Later that evening, she hid so well that my DD and I could not find her. We were calling and calling and searching...she finally appeared, smug as can be.

I just called the vet office. The doctor is in surgery they said...I should call back at noon. I will update as soon as I hear something. I am truthfully a little annoyed at this point...

Pat, Well Raja is pretty good in blue, I'm sorta thinking infection here(Paws & fingers crossed) because of all you have been through--
But remember you are a Trooper and you will do what needs to be done--

Did you know that Moonie ran away from her shots for 10 months in the beginning, and I had to chase her all around the entire house??
What a nightmare!! Cried constantly!! But once she got in the swing of things, & I got much less nervous, it was so much better--
Dont forget they sense our stress!! That is a fact-so act nonchalant :? It works!
Hope it gets easier & not for long!! Raja & Shadow have almost the same AMPS? Weird @-) @-) @-) @-)

I hope it is possibly just an infection or if not, just a minor setback, and Raja will be back to the Falls. :smile:

Glad to see you're in the blues Miss Raja!! I also love reading your condos, Pat....truly inspirational. There's no telling which cat I'd shoot at 3 am!!! I hope Shadow and Raja have a great day and that you get some good news from the vet that will help Raja get back to the falls.

Hi Pat, Just what you needed: a crawl along the floor at 3 A.M.!! Well, Raja has a blue AMPS (better than yesterday), so hopefully all will go well with the vet report and you'll find out if something is troubling her and will then be able to deal with it. That girl is really smart. Of course she listens to your conversations and feels it intuitively when things are not the usual routine. The petsitter probably set her off! Stu is very subdued at the moment because he knows he is going for his I-131 evaluation. We have talked about it in his presence and now I will make sure that I talk to him directly about it to try to ease his qualms.
So hang in there and I hope the vet calls soon. You are terrific. Thanks again so much for having that great party for all our kitties at your house. What do you think about having the next full moon party--the Hunter's Moon--at Stu's camp? Sounds appropriate, doesn't it? They can cook what they catch (but it might be too cold to go in the water--there may be skim ice!!).

The GOOD news is: she does not have an infection! All the CBC values were within the proper range, urine was clear with some glucose. Her BGs were 317 from the blood they took. She was +5=276 when we got home yesterday.
Her cholesterol was high at 235 they said.

The BAD news is that she needs insulin for no other reason. Glad we started her last night.
Of course, the vet recommended a 3 day stay for a BG curve. Been there, done that...
I said "Thanks, but No thanks" in my best Sarah Palin imitation.

Lat year, the two of them stayed at the vet for 3 days...that was pre-forum days. They offered them dry W/D and canned W/D and anyone want to guess what Raja ate for three days? After being on only canned for 6 months after our cold turkey switch from free-feeding dry food...she took full advantage of the dry that they put in front of her nose.

I told Raja that she was clear of any infection and she said "hrummph, I knew THAT!"
Whew.so glad we are not having any further work for her...no meds and no nothing but her Levemir!
I am truly thankful that she is okay....the insulin is not such a big deal....I am just so happy that she is all right....

It is good news! too bad on the return to insulin - but i guess that sometimes it does happen. i have no doubt that she will be back to the falls soon. In the mean time two cats on the juice. omg - good luck... i imagine that the old routine will return quick enough -we are programmed, ya know...

OK so you have dealt with this before, and now you have it again--At least she is not sick, which is great!
And we are all here with you--Dont worry I have a good feeling that Raja will not be here that long(although we love her) and back to the Falls in No time--Did you like the DPS????

So they are not going to send the urine out for a C&S (culture and sensitivity)? Since you went to the trouble and expense of obtaining a sterile sample via cystocentesis, it might be worth the extra expense to cutlure the sample. Chances are that it will show no growth, given the bloodwork and urinalysis results, but it would be thorough to go the next step.

Congratulations on the good bloodwork and u/a results!

Nice blue for Raja, Pat. I have to laugh at your Shadow and Raja's antics of late. So funny. And seriously, I don't know how you and all the other folks who have two FD kitties do it day in and day out. I guess you just have to get into a good routine and stick with it.

Hey, Raja, nice hiding skills there chicky! I should try that one, but then again, maybe not cuz that would mean that I wouldn't get my treat, hehehehe. You know, being back in LL really isn't that bad cuz we are getting the help that we need. Hopefully both me and you will be back in our condo's at the falls before to long, huh. In the meantime, let's just enjoy our visit here! I'm liking all the partys and such! Well, gotta run...gotta get my tushie in gear so that I can come over for the "clean up" hehehehe...........Spot

if the cost is manageable, that's what i'd do too.

how's she been acting - anything different behaviour-wise? appy changes? weight changes? did they test thryoid levels?

I neglected to ask for the c & s...and since the urine was fine I didn't think it was necessary...do you think I should call them and request that, Linda? Is it possible that something would be present although everything seemed okay? I am not familiar with these tests ....so I appreciate your suggestions....

She has been acting just fine WCF...it was just the elevated BGs that had me concerned. I brought her in yesterday...they did do the full blood workup so there should be the T4 values there. I asked for a copy to be mailed to me.

Glad to hear nothing is wrong with Raja - I'm sure SHE coulda told us that! You know, she HAS been having a lot to say to the other kitties here lately, maybe she just felt she needed to rent her own condo for a bit for more space to do that!

chances are there's no growth, if she's acting fine. but the only way to be sure is to do the c&s, if you don't mind the cost. see meowzi's labs on 9/26/09 - cbc within normal range, urinalysis clear, no bacteria (don't ask, i can't explain it), then the lab cultured it and it was positive for e-coli as well as proteus mirabilis. i don't know who was more surprised, vettybean or me. i had requested that only to rule it out b/c she was meatloafing, but we already knew it was a bad pancreatitis flare and that should have been all - but to our surprise poor Meowzi was also suffering a UTI. granted, we could tell she was in a lot of pain, while raja is acting alright. but testing is the only way to be 100% sure.

She has been acting just fine WCF...it was just the elevated BGs that had me concerned. I brought her in yesterday...they did do the full blood workup so there should be the T4 values there. I asked for a copy to be mailed to me.

glad she's acting fine. if you call in for a c&s - if you do - ask them for the T4 and ref range. and do you have a prior T4 to compare with?

No, she has only had CBCs so far. So I will have nothing to compare it with....I will go and get a copy of the report. they said all values were withing the normal range, but I would like to see it myself.
She had trace blood in her urine in the beginning of Aug. Inappropriate urination since that is the only way this foolish woman would know that something was wrong. Clavamox for 14 days but she stopped the inapp. urination almost immediately within a day. Didn't have the C & S done then which now I know to request. Many thanks WCF...I can see why you would suggest having it done after your experience with Meowzi.
( I guess the price makes them not mention it, but hey, they should tell you that it is available to explore all possibilities)

pat - one more thought. did the vet or lab get a USG from the urinalysis? if her urine's concentrated, a UTI is less likely. but i don't like the sound of trace blood in urine (assuming that was a free catch, not cysto?)

Hey Pat, This is indeed good news. Only diabetes is a relief. But you are wise to get the C&S. Stu didn't have it done (through no fault of mine, since I didn't know) the first time around and had to have cystocentesis a second time. The T-4 is apparently a separate blood test, so ask them to do that, too, if you can do it without another blood sample--just to be on the safe side.

Glad to hear that Raja is ok, pending any further results at least! Hopefully she will just need a little juice for a short time and then she'll be back at the falls. If she wanted a little of her brother's attention, I bet she's re-thinking that now! :lol: Nice numbers for Raja today!

Given the previous occurrence in August, I think it's good you are having the C&S done. It should take about three days, but you might get a preliminary report earlier (maybe not, because of the weekend). WCF is right - ask for the results of the urinalysis, including USG (specific gravity) for your records.

i think (wish cassandra was here, she's the thyroid guru!) i would ask for a free T4 (will probably need to draw more blood) if her T4 is above 2.5, or 3. sigh, i don't remember, been a long time since i looked into hyper-t. that's on a ref range of 0 - 4, btw.

trace blood in urine from a cysto sample could be just b/c it was a cysto, i think. or not. as linda said, since you already went through the trouble of getting a cysto, maybe you'll want to just ask for a c&s and rule out a UTI. we paid $130 for the c&s - i just sent the claim to the insurance company this week (yeah, a whole year later!)
 
Glad to hear that Raja 's tests are all good so far. I think she decided to come back to show the others how to get their BGs down and get to the Falls. she just doesn't htink her brother listens to her.
 
I'm sorry to see Raja back on the juice, but thankfully she is doing well otherwise.

She must have noticed all that free time you have on your hands and wanted to keep you busy chasing after two sugarbabies. :lol: :lol:

Wow - Emma and I apparently missed quite a bit over the last couple of days! So sorry she's back on insulin Pat, but glad she's ok otherwise. I don't know how you do it with two of them! Just one makes me crazy most days!

i gave pat this info yesterday from one of alex's lab reports:

FT4(ED) should ALWAYS be interpreted with a total T4 concentration when evaluating a cat for hyperthyroidism. Approximately 5-10% of euthyroid cats w/nonthyroidal illness will have elevated FT4(ED). An elevated FT4ED with a total T4 greater than 2.5ug/dL is supportive of hyperthyroidism. An elevated FT4ED with a total less then 2.5ug/dL is most consistent with nonthyroidal illness.
reference range:
T4 0.8 - 4.0 ug/dL
FT4(ED) 10 - 50 pmol/L

earlier this year, jojo suggested alex have the T4 done. if the results were 2.5ug/dL or greater, she suggested having the vet call the lab to tell them to run the FT4(ED) from the same blood sample.

I am so sorry to see Raja back but I believe she is only here for a short visit to see what all the commotion is about then she will get bored and go back to the Falls.

Aww Pat, maybe she was just getting sick of the Falls....look at all the attention she's getting here. Raja is no dumb pussycat.

I'm glad her blood work came back okay and Alex and Jackson always have blood in their urine and there has been nothing found as a specific cause. For Raja it could have been from the cysto. I have a feeling she'll be back at the Falls real soon but just wanted a little time back here.

Alex is glad he'll get to hear more about her..... at least for a little while :mrgreen:
 
Raja sure knows how to bring in the heavy hitters! All these smart peeps makin such the fuss for her, she must be in heaven.
I'm glad the vet gave her the 'all clear' and even gladd....er you're getting the extra test, can't argue with any of this here logic!

They said the test result would be back in about 4 days. I will attach her blood work to her SS when I can get to my scanner...DH is on that computer right now.
But, her T4 was 1.9 Ref range 0.5 - 4.7ug/dl
0.5 - 4.7 = normal
So that was a relief and I didn't order a free T4 on the basis of that value. Hope that was correct.

She is really not too happy today. I found her behind that darn tv again when i wanted to test her at +8.
grr_red I was so exasperated....she hasn't gone behind there in months and suddenly. she is back to it!
She had +6=86 so I really wanted to see where she was at +8...and it was snack time! I got the broom and touched her behind, leaning over my tv. She did NOT budge.
She used to come out with just a little push from the broom. Not today! I got her to move closer to the little opening & finally got her out somehow...I was kinda pulling on her arm and I was able to get in there enough to get her out completely. I do not want to do that again. DH would be beyond livid if that tv went crashing to the floor.
+8=137. All that and she was nowhere near a worry zone. But still, I had no idea what her number was...and I really wanted to test her then. She is sooo stubborn and head strong. Can you believe she is gong behind the tv now?? Well, I put something to block the opening so that is off limits to the little Miss Smarty Pants. I refuse to be outwitted by a little kitty cat. I do prevail in the end. ( :lol: even if it does take me awhile to figure something out!)
