Wow, the first day of Fall has passed quietly - the weather is getting cooler. Luci sure seems to be more comfortable with her lagoon visits these days - although she still likes to take her dives to get there...I guess that's just her style - hence the multiple tests. She was purring this morning for her AMPS - I guess she was hungry and ready for her breakfast...this girl is all about the fuds!

Now she has the zoomies - ripping and running from one place to another - guess she's feeling pretty on top of the world this morning :D

Hope everyone has a lovely day and all your kitties make it to the lagoon for a bit of surfing.

I walked around the yard and picked a few dahlias. Saw this little monarch visiting the milkweed garden. She kept coming back to this one little raggedy zinnia for a little nectar. Here are a couple of pics:

Sue, your pics ab made my heart burst :bighug: Monarch sightings at this time of year give my heart a thrill ! Thanks for sharing photos :)

Nice start for Luci and pretty Dahlia. I am still picking and cutting them like crazy. Currently, I have 3 bouquets of them in the family room. I just love them!! Do you pull up your tubers and winter them and replant the next year? We have done it a few times with a so so outcome. Usually DH just gets new ones to plant each year. Wish I could find a rust colored one.

Three of my “surprise bag” of dahlias came up this year! Two are Bright bright red and one is pink. The fourth one came up but I don’t think I’ll get to see it flower.:. Since I’m due for first snow this week

Wish I could find a rust colored one.

Try to find Akita - it's a beautiful rust colored bloom with lighter tips. I actually showed those way back when...a set of 5 matching Akita blooms. The downside of Akita is weak stems...but the blooms are gorgeous! I'll try to find a pic. I wish you'd post a pic of your bouquets! I'd love to see them!

We have in the past dug up a zillion tubers and like you - had mixed results on keeping them viable until the following season. We lose so many to drying out or getting too moist and rotting or whatever...I'm of the mind to order new ones and stop with all the labor intensive digging and storing them routine...we have a few favorites that we may take a tuber or two to see if fewer tubers would do better than the massive quantity...like that lancinated one in the photo - it's Pinelands Princess - we weren't sure we even had any that survived! But there at last - it has bloomed. We have a lot of Bahama Mama - they seem pretty hardy...but it's getting to be a ton of work and for us old folks...getting harder every year...

This is Akita - the pic looks a bit bright to me, but I assure you those blooms were quite 'rust' colored. You'll have to see them in person :)

Beautiful! I will look for Akita next year! I like how the Dahlias just keep going through the fall so interested in getting some fall shades.

My favorite is the Black Dahlia. It looks so nice mixed with other reds. I did a bouquet of all the same color Dahlias, but different varieties of shapes. It was very attractive.

My former employer named his daughter Dahlia.

I’ll be cutting some today and make new bouquets and make a photo. This year, most of ours are very short stemmed so I had to arrange in teapots as my vases were to tall.
