9/21 Condo

Good afternoon all, hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the first official day of Fall, and having a great 'Caturday'.

So Rhiannon PM'd me the other night and got me questioning some things. How long it takes food to get out of Scratchie's system, then that started another trigger in my brain about his food. I've read so many condos where folks are 'controlling numbers with diet' and it finally clicked in my head.

This morning his bg went up 37 points within an hour of eating.
While I have been feeding him 5% food or less, it started me thinking.
The day he went to blue @178, he was on fish day which is 3%. Hmmmm.

So today I have been monitoring his food better. He is on the Friskies Special Diet foods so last night for his night time snack he got Turkey and Giblets and between 2 feedings today (1/2 can this morning) then another 1/4 can later. For lunch - when he's ready - he gets some Ocean Whitefish - again Special Diet... While I'm sure it's all a combination of the insulin and food, I'm hoping that I get better numbers from him. Tonight will tell the tail (pun intended).
Another thing is he acts better when mamabean is home. DH doesn't pay that much attention (feeds him and cleans LB) but doesn't really play with him, brush him, coax him - you know, the things that us caretakers do. He seems to always perk up when I am home, and on the weekends, he's like a shadow lately so that's another good sign..

Anyway - now for the recap of yesterday and what is going on so far today. I did have a number wrong yesterday morning in my post but corrected and on the SS.

9/21
AMPS = 380 (not 340 as earlier reported)
PMPS = 347
+2 = 378

9/22
AMPS = 390. (After he ate, about 1 hour I tested his bg and up to 427) - 1/2 can
+3 = 337
+6 = 296

Thanks everyone - always - for your advice, patience and support. I don't know what I would do without all of you!

Jo

We are back from our afternoon out.

Scratchie knows who he belongs to and who loves him best!
A good example of steering numbers with food would be Reuben and Alexa. She has been having to learn that out of necessity.

Today when I left after Shadow's 3.5 test, I gave her 8% ( 2 servings) so she could self serve while we were gone. I have no idea if she
ate all of it as we left or staggered it. I just wanted it near her in case she needed it. The largest food spike I've seen on her is around
30 higher. That's her individual reaction to food. ECID.

Someone here, ( can't remember at this second) has a cat that spikes high from chicken. Very sensitive to that and she avoids it now.

My other observation for my cat is she takes 2 hr at least, sometimes 2 hrs and 15 minutes before the food spike has cleared.
So when you really want to have a pokiefest, you can observe that to see how long it takes your cat to drop back down after eating.

Hi Jo

Welllll.....I don't really think you would see a lot of difference between a 3 and 5% food; I don't see a lot between a 4 and 6% in terms of numbers. I do see some effect if I use an 8%. Yes....it is ECID and Jill's cat, Alex, is very carb sensitive that even freeze dried chicken gives her a food spike.

I think the 178 was on a bounce clearing day and I wonder if that number was actually on the way UP instead of down. In other words, I wonder if he was lower earlier in the day and that 178 was the beginning of his bounce...especially since he went up so fast from there.

Look at the PM cycle on 9/11. If you hadn't done such a great job of getting those tests, you'd probably think he had been high all night, right?

Since you are home tonight and tomorrow (I'm assuming), what do you think about increasing him to 2.25u tonight?
