WCR: had another nice run of numbers last night and so far only bounced up into the mid yellows this morning. I hope this is as high as she goes.

So last night about 11:15 we had a storm rip through our town and we lost power until 10:30 this morning. At 8 a.m. we put the ice packs from the freezer into the fridge to try and keep it cool in there. At 9:30 when peter left for work I told him to take mochas insulin with him, and to put it in his fridge at work. So now my question is this, will her insulin be ok? It felt warmer then normal, but still just a little cool to the touch.

Re: 9/22 mocha amps 246

All I know Devon is that it should never freeze....I know that with Lev I would not be concerned...maybe other Lantus people will weigh in here. I guess you will know when you see her numbers....

Re: 9/22 mocha amps 246

Hi, Devon.. I suspect/almost bet the Lantus will be Ok, I lost power a few times when Baby was on Lantus & took the pen to work with me to refrigerate. We never had issues, like Pat said #s will show.. just try not to worry because I think it is ok

Re: 9/22 mocha amps 246

I've worried about that myself, usually we just avoid opening the fridge when the power is out and things stay cool. I left a cartridge out overnight once with no ill effects. They are supposed to last for 28 days at room temp.

I just was on Hocks site and I saw these "insulin coolers"Might be a good idea to keep on hand for emergencies.

eeeks .. you think this is mocha being mocha or the pen not being good? I REALLY hope it's mocha being mocha because getting another pack of pens right now is not in our budget. I'm majorly stressing over this. Dang I hate storms! I guess we might have to look into those insulin cooler packs.

Re: 9/22 mocha amps 246 +5 306

no ... she wasn't even stressed last night ... it was only me stressing and that was over that darn insulin! In the past before mocha was diagnosed a storm would come, we'd lose power, we'd go to bed and sleep till it was back on .. now a storm comes, I stress over the insulin staying cold, we go to bed but wake up every hour to a cell phone alarm and try to test mocha and find a tiny drop of dark red blood on her dark brown ears only by the light of a tiny flashlight. Oh back in the carefree days ....

Re: 9/22 mocha amps 246 +5 306

Seems like a few of us are getting higher numbers today. May just be an odd day- not the Lantus getting warm.
I know what you mean about the brown ears and seeing a tiny little spot. I always wear a head lamp made for camping - it really helps.

Hope the numbers are coming down.
