Good morning! ~O) ~O) ~O)

I'm again donning my impatience pants with the holes in the bum now covered with the pretty Kitty Cat patches from Rhiannon. o:-) We did our dosecrease last night and impatiently waiting to descend from the poofy red and pink stratosphere.

Daddybean came to visit last night for the weekend as we continue our trip down to the kid's for a birthday party for the day. He remembered his daddy right away (boy, you never know in a strange place how a kitty will react) and shortly after they were playing attack the rat with one of Leo's stuffed toys. All of the Ps are out today, but still the diarrhea. DH brought the FortiFlora from the vet and we'll start it this morning. He also brought the Pet Rescue Remedy that I missed in the mail last week before our Big Adventure. And he also brought the Cerenia so we'll be putting that down his hatch later this morning. In addition to the Flagyl. The vet said these can all be taken together - I was wondering if I should hold off on the FortiFlora until after our day trip in cause all this new stuff in his belly makes him upset. Actually, I think I'll save that for tonight's meal instead.

We've all got our fingers crossed fora yellow today, although with a day trip that will include a total of 3 hours in the car, I doubt it will happen. So perhaps we cross our paws for no BLACKS!

Have a wonderful weekend by LL friends!

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386

I think the FortiFlora will be okay to give now. It will help him with the diarrhea and may help his tummy to feel better on the car ride.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386

Ouch - I didn't give it to him. We'll see - we're leaving around +4 and he normally gets a +3. I think I'll hold off on that and then offer him a little food when we get there, which would be around +6. Then this evening we'll be leaving right around shot time...with the food. So I probably won't give his +1 food because we may be on the road or getting on the road soon. Not sure the timing. So his eating schedule will be screwed up today with the dose increase. But I'm sure the stress will counteract any drop due to less food!

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359

Thanks, Carla. Here's hoping we don't have a repeat of the barf-o-rama! I have my paper towels, wipes and garbage bags ready!

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359

So it turns out I needed the trash bags, the wipes and paper towels. He pooped, ok, not bad. Pulled over and picked little poopies out. Then later, loose poo and pee everywhere. We couldn't pull over. Whew. Got to my son's, straight to the bathroom for a cleaning. Didn't give a bath, but will have to when we got home later. He stinks. He's hiding behind the toilet. Drank a little, ate a bit. So sad!

Question...shot time is in 2.5 hours. I don't think he'll eat much, then we have a 90 minute ride back to my apartment. What do I do? Shoot, knowing his #s and stress are high? He will need a bath. This will be 3rd cycle on new dose.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

Hi Lisa, what a day for you, huh! I'm just catching up on your travels. On the dose, add a ? emoticon in your subject line to catch the "eyes" of someone to help on the dosing. Have a safe trip home.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

No dosing advice here. Sending good traveling vines and happy tummies. Hope he calms down soon.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

I'd say, let's see what his +12 number is. Most likely, yes, shoot the insulin if he's high. Once you're back at your apartment, he will be happy to be at his "new" home. He's been eating okay at your apartment, right? You'll leave your son's house at PMPS, and be home at +1.5? or am I not understanding this correctly.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

Hi Ann and Shannan - thanks. Poor guy. I think the answer is that I shoot and try to get on the road right after, even if he doesn't eat. Then we get home and torment him with a bath and see if he'll eat. His BG should be safe w/o the food because of all the stress. Is that a good idea? I want to shoot no matter what. Just wondering about timing now. Thanks!

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

I think, but this is only my experience with my cats, that he will love the FortiFlora (which I mostly use as an appetite stimulant) and will eat well, once he is back at your apartment and is calm again. Do you think he'll eat when you get there?
I would try to give him a bit of food on the ride home (back to your apartment), he may surprise you and eat then, too.

What was his last test number, and when?

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

Hi Dyana,

His last value was 293 or something...I think its in his SS. I'm on my phone now. He may eat a little at shot time simply out of hunger. He won't eat on the drive. He goes into a painful zone it seems. I'll put the FortaFlora in food when we get home. I'll try to get food in him before the bath. :o I've never bathed him. His claws are very long. The cutters are at home home. It may be a bloody mess

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

I sprinkle the FortiFlora over the top of the food. I hope he likes it as much as my cats do.

For the bath. I would fill the tub or sink with warm water first, and have plenty of towels ready for when he comes out.
Good luck with that. Just the act of getting wet, may have him grooming himself clean, once he gets out.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

Ok Dyana, I'll do that. I just tested PMPS 404. Gonna shoot of course. Poor boy I feel so bad for tormenting him so!

Poor Leo on the travel troubles! cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon

how is he about having his claws clipped? Even a nail clipper to take the tip off would be good. I'd have the whole bathroom setup before you bring him in. Be sure to close the door and get the shower curtain out of the way or he may try to climb up and shred it! Voice of experience here! ohmygod_smile

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

I was really suprised when J.D. just sat right down in the utility tub of warm water, the last time I had to bathe him two years ago at my Dad's house on our California vacation. He had soaked himself in pee from a ride to the vet.

Rescue Remedy might help for that bath, too. Good luck.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

Sorry there was a little snafu on the trip, Lisa. I'm glad you will be giving him insulin. Remember that it takes a couple hours to onset so if you can get home before then or around then and let him eat, then you
shouldn't have to worry at all.

Good luck with the bath!! Poor Leo!

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

If you have not already given the bath, here are my suggestions. Be prepared for howling first time in tub. If you've not bathed in tub before I would wrap him in warm wet soapy towel rather than place in tub / water. You can sponge bath specific areas that way.

Bath suggestions:

Have soapy water already in tub. You can then sud him without stress of running water.
have cup ready for rinsing portion (16-32oz). I am able to slowly run water to fill cup to rinse JL
Have lots lots towels ready for wrapping and drying.
have food ready when finished. JL gets hungry afterwards.

Above all be careful. I do not try and wash JL's head. That freaks him out. I am able to dry him with the hair dryer. We have an understanding after many years. Despite JL's love of DH, he trusts me and only me with baths.

Re: 9/22 Leo AMPS 386 +2 359 ? shooting thru travel trauma

We are home, he has nearly half a can of Fancy Feast in him, with FortaFlora sprinkled on it - and BOY does he LIKE THAT STUFF!!! I took his carrier straight into the bathroom and fed him in the bathroom. I thought he might be too stressed after the bath, because I wasn't sure how it would go. I had drawn several inches in the tub already. Well, he was a scared but good boy. I had to use the mommy death grip and support his chest with my other hand, and daddy cleaned in from the waist down. He just kinda hung there with his back toes curled over and his tail just limp. So sad! He acted like he wanted to take off a couple times, but he didn't really fight it. Of course, he wasn't really submerged and it wasn't a full bath. Whew! Well, he's had quite a day, so he's pretty tuckered out. He was good on the way home, but it was dark so I couldn't really see him in the carrier, but it appeared he was laying down trying to sleep (or just trying to survive)

Ann - he's pretty good about getting his mani-pedi's, surprisingly! I can usually get all 20 nails at one time.

Marje - yes, that's why I wanted to leave right after we shot ... he's grooming himself now - it's about +3 right now. I'll test him in a little while after he calms down a bit. He was 404 when I shot, so I think I have some buffer!

Dyana - J.D. - what a good boy! My mom had a cat who liked to stand inside the shower by the back of the tub and water would get splashed on him when you took a shower. Go figure.

Shannan - thanks for the detailed suggestions - I'll put out some more food in a bit - he normally gets his 3rd dinner at +3. I'm glad he's eaten what he has so far, so I won't complain too much if he doesn't each much more. I THOUGHT about a blow dryer, but I think that would NEVER be permitted!

Thank you all for giving us support and suggestions! I told Leo kitties and their beans were rooting for him.
