Sorry for no update last two days, have been busy taking grandma to doctors appointments and my cousin that had stem cell transplant to clinic for infusion to treat a virus.

9/20
AMPS 369 @ +11 (got up late; shot was an hour later than usual) 3.2U
+3 273
+5 207
+7 147
PMPS 199 @ +13.5 3.2U

9/21
AMPS 391 @ +10 3.2U
+4 261
+6 150
PMPS 200 @ +14 3.2U

9/22
AMPS 401 @ +10 (retest...first test was 426 UGH not liking these numbers!)

Will be calling vet later to see if she thinks we need to do testing for allergies. Places on forehead and around ears have cleared up mostly but he is still scratching some there, I am assuming the bacterial skin infection has cleared with 10 days of antibiotics he just finished.

Kitty has had allergies all of her life. She recieved depo shots for many years--probably 2 a summer (that is when the allergies were worst). The depo shots, possibly and probably contributed to the Diabetes. I had her allergy tested, but nothing came back positive.

Good Luck!

Yes, thats one of the problems, the vet already has said no steroids for Hen, which I surely don't want him to have any.
My little dog that passed in 2004 had allergies bad and chewed all the hair off her back and constantly scratched at her ears and eyes. She took steroids for awhile and pediatric Benadryl every day.

Hmm don't know if I want to spend that much for a RAST test if it doesn't pick up anything.

+4 235
+6 318

I have read the posts on health about allergies and inflammation raising the BG levels. We are going to try the RAST test.

So my thoughts are to get some data here and there at different times than you typically do - for instance today the +6 was higher than the +14, which is kind of funky. I wonder if you could get in a spot test here or there in the later part of the AM cycle, so maybe like something in the +10 to +12 zone. Just curious to be certain it is still following the U-curve pattern. Since every AM you have a test at +10, but not many +10 tests before the PM shot, so I'm just curious to be sure we are seeing the full picture and interpreting the numbers correctly.

My other thought is that I would try going with 3.4 on the PM shot and see if that helps the AMPS. Because that shot is late, it's kind of like starting over and I think it may need more oomph to get some results. If it is nerve-wracking to increase, I would try it on a night when you can get in a spot test or two to reassure yourself it's not too much insulin.

And although I know from a practical perspective it's not too realistic, but if it were me, I would pick some time when I had nothing I needed to do the next day, and try to get some serious curve data overnight. Or maybe pick the 1st half of the night one night, and the second half of the night on a different night, and do a test every 2 hours, or even every hour if possible, and try to pinpoint what is going on. I'd want to see how quickly he drops at the beginning of the cycle - since it's a late shot it may be sort of a slow easy drop, which would mean there is probably room for more insulin. And of course when & where the nadir is. And then the big mystery, when exactly he is rising back up, how fast, and maybe try to correlate that timing with any observations about what he is doing (eating? active vs. sleeping? getting into a stash of dry every night at +9? ohmygod_smile ), and see if you can solve the mystery. Of course if you are watching & testing he would probably throw a different pattern at you. :-D

I realize that is mostly completely unrealistic, just sharing how I would approach it if I had the energy (which I don't, but it's easy to tell someone else what to do, LOL!)

I can try to get in a +10 today.
Yesterday was a real wonky day and same a few days. Opened new strips yesterday; don't know if thats a factor or not??
Opening new thread for today.
