I'm having a steep learning curve with Lantus. I know I know I know I need to keep to a 12/12 schedule, but it is hard for me to do. Yesterday morning's shot was an hour late because I was reluctant to shoot so low. So last night and this morning I moved up shot time by 20 minutes each shot. I had heard that + or - 15 minutes wasn't usually a big deal, and the preshot numbers were high, so I thought I was safe.

Also, Buddha's appetite has slowed down. He still has a healthy interest in food, just doesn't want as much. So he's usually just finished his breffist when I would normally offer a snack. So I haven't offered snacks at +2 like I would on ProZinc.

Anyway, I was surprised at +4 with a 45. BG may have dipped because of what I noted above: last 2 shots 20 minutes early and no +2 snack. Does the situation still call for a dose reduction? Should we go to 1.25u tonight?

Because I'm European I can never work the darn month/year out.

I think you've been at this less than a year so I would try for a dose reduction.Especilly as the 45 was at +4 (usually it'sanother 2 hours till nadir)
If you see a gradual increase in numbers over the next 3 days then you'd look at going back to last good dose 1.5u.

This helps keep kitty safe and give you peace of mind. :mrgreen:

yes, the 39 today earns Buddha a reduction to 1.25 units BID. Good luck with the dosecrease!
 
I tried to draw up 1.25u but I think it was more like 1u. Not sure I'll be able to reliably split the difference between the whole unit line and the half.

I tested pmps 12 hours and 5 minutes past amps test. I'm assuming shots were as equally spaced.
 
I understand completely where the plunger is supposed to be for 1/4 units. Physically being able to manipulate it into position is trickier. For me, I think it's an angle problem. I hold everything up the light to see where the plunger is. I look for light coming between the unit line and the plunger. I get it just perfect, then look at it from a different angle and have a different perception.

The droplet of insulin that seems to be 1/4 unit is so tiny. Sometimes after a shot, I really squeeze down on the plunger and get a similar sized drop.

I've just been practicing with a used syringe and water. Bubbles were frustrating too, but maybe more bubbles than if I'd used a fresh syringe. Will require patience.

can't see a 3rd Sept thread for you.

Could try gently turning syringe as you draw your insulin (sometimes smoother).
As long as your consistent with your dose (so however you prefer to draw it) is ok. (obviously you want to try and get the amount right as your working down the scale, but patience and practice works for me :mrgreen: )

Hope he keps coming down the scale :mrgreen:
