Hello. Hoping someone is around as I have a dosing question. Merlin got a 139 tonight. I am assuming that I shouldn't shoot under 150 so should I test in about 30 minutes to see if it goes up? I am thinking that if he hits 150 then I will give him .4 per my sliding scale. The lowest I have shot is 151 on 9/2/14. Thanks.

Re: Merlin PMPS 139 - Stall???

I would be nervous to shoot that low. And he does seem to drop lower at night and then maybe bounce for pmps? So, I am thinking shoot if he goes up to 150 and maybe .4 or a smidge less? Interesting that he is higher pretty consistently higher for amps.....

Re: Merlin PMPS 139 - Stall???

Thanks. I will check in about 20 minutes then. Yeah I know about being higher at AMPS. He is doing so good in all other aspects but just can't seem to get into the 200's at AMPS on a consistent basis. The PMPS has been in the 200's pretty much since 8/7 but AMPS has been sporadic. Thanks again for being around. Will post again soon.

Re: Merlin PMPS 139 - Stall???

I'm sure you've considering food overnight vs no food, and bouncing at night. They aren't bad amps - below the renal threshold - just curious about them.

Re: Merlin PMPS 139 - Stall???

I test last at 10pm (before I go to bed) and that is the last time I have been feeding him. Are you saying that if I start feeding him throughout the night, he may not bounce up for the AMPS?

After about almost an hour, he is now at 175 so I gave him .4u.

Re: Merlin PMPS 139

Glad you waited.

It is just something to try. Some cats stay lower/higher overnight if they have food; some don't. Do you have an automatic feeder? If so, you might experiment with a couple snacks overnight, with the feeder moving to an empty slot 2 hours before the amps test.

It can also be the difference in activity levels (more sedentary at night, more active in the day or vice versa)

Just some things to try?

Re: Merlin PMPS 139

Yes I have an automatic feeder and I used to give him food at night but kind of got away from it (for no reason). I will give it a try tonight and give it a test run for the next week to see if his AMPS is any better.

Remind me again - what is the number for below renal threshold? I was thinking it was 220 and below.

Re: Merlin PMPS 139

Cindi, another possibility would be to shoot 30 minutes later for pmps amd 30 minutes earlier for amps, as he seems to be pretty consistent with the pattern?

Re: Merlin PMPS 139

Glad to hear that the renal threshhold is a little higher than what I thought.

So I got out the auto-feeder out last night and set it for midnight and 3am. I forgot to add a 4am to shut it off so hopefully he didn't eat between 4am and 6am. Anyway, his PMPS was a 195! Hmmmm...could it be due to night feeding? In keeping with my 6am-6pm schedule, I shot 45 minutes earlier this morning because he got his PM shot 45 minutes later (6:45pm) last night so that might have helped too but still that would have meant he would have at least been in the low to mid 200's. I used to feed him at night but he really wans't eating it but this time he ate about 75% of his midnight food and 10% of his 3am food. So if this helps, it sure pays to go back and try things that you have tried before...who knows it may work! Thanks Sue.

We posted at the same time! So your amps today was technically 90 minutes early, right? (45 minutes later last night, 45 minutes earlier this am = 90 minute shorter cycle. So the earlier amps and later pmps might work, or the food might have worked. I guess I'd pick one to try for a few cycles to see which made the difference?

Wow! Go Merlin! I can't remember for sure but I think Rumpleteaser has the same thing once upon a time....eating at night (more frequent meals) brought numbers down. Anyway, something is working! You're doing great!
