Max is still going strong! He was hungry when I tested him. He also woke me up in the night for food. I'm not sure when I can free feed him again.

Rhiannon, Hi. Max still needed a lot of water while he was bouncing, but once he was regulated, he didn't seem to need nearly as much water either, and as it cooled off a bit this past week, he hasn't been drinking as much. Beautiful numbers for Shadow as always!

Anne, Hoping the vet visit with Muffin goes well. She's going to have a shaved belly! We want pictures!

Ann, What cute little lambs! Thanks! How is Tess this morning? Still up in the Pinks? Hope not. You are really working hard at feeding her right.

Alexa, I know you are exhausted. I've been there. Try to hang in there! I second the suggestion that you give lunch meat as a treat -- just make sure it doesn't have dextrose or sugar added. Maybe just roast a chicken and save him some breast.

Jo, Awww, slobbery kisses at 3 a.m.! Perfect! Hang in there. I know this is hard, but you are doing a great job with Scratchie.

Ann, Holding Maggie in my thoughts -- I hope you can start fluids soon. Glad you got a blue!

Roni, Glad little Moonie is so cuddly for you! Thanks for stopping by.

Marje, So great that Gracie is liking her new dose! You ROCK! Love the dancing Jerries!

Melanie, That is so funny that Racci refused to eat when you were stalling her shot, and would only eat after she got the shot? These cats!!!! Glad her numbers are looking good.

Devon, I can't find Mocha's condo right now, and I'm running out of "board time." Hope all is well with you!

Carl, I hope Bob gets shrimpies even when he doesn't get a poke? Poor Bob, if he doesn't. However, I love his "cattitude." It's the same as Max's.

Chris, Hope Tucker is doing great at the falls, and hasn't threatened to come back to Lantus Land again! Thanks for your well wishes!

I hope I didn't miss anyone who visited us yesterday. For those of you who didn't post, thanks for visiting, too. I hope to get around to some other condos later if I have the time. Good luck today.

Max still going strong = YEAY!!! GO MAX - DAY 4oooorrrr!!!

How do you know when to feed him now, since there is not insulin to be regulating food against?
(Silly question from a newbee  )

And, I`ll be watching to see what the answer is about when you can start free feeding again... Exciting stuff!

Hugs to you and Max and Emma :YMHUG: :-D

Re: 9/19 Max AMBG 84 DAY FOUR!

Hi, Chris, thanks!

Alexa, Now, I am giving him about 4 meals a day, and two of those are at test time. He lets me know when he's hungry usually, but if I leave, I make sure the bowl has food in it. He seems to be in the 80s if he hasn't eaten for 2-3 hours before the test, and he's in the low 100s if he has eaten within that time period. He's eating less than 6 ounces of Wellness per day. He used to eat more than twice much.

I didn't do the elaborate feeding schedule before. I simply tried to pick up his food at least 2 hours before shot time, make sure he had food available if I left the house before nadir - even if he might get to it within 2 hours of the shot, and I also tried to get him to eat about 4 hours prior to the shot, if I was able. This was to avoid the look on his face when I refused to feed him from +10 to +12. That look is soooo hard to resist.

Re: 9/19 Max AMBG 84 DAY FOUR!

Happy Day 4 Max!! Lovely ambg! When Muffin went OTJ, as soon as her trial was over and she was "official" I started free-feeding her again. For the first month, I continued to test her at least every few days, just to make sure the new feeding schedule (or lack thereof) wasn't messing her up. I like to refer to Muffin as a "meal-time free-feeder" because she does graze, but there is definitely a time period in which she'll finish her food. It will generally take her an hour or 2 to finish breakfast. Then she's not interested in food again until around 3-4pm so she'll eat a little during that time, and then again around 7-8pm she'll want dinner, and it will take her about the same amt of time to eat as breakfast. So my free-feeding doesn't necessarily mean there's food out all the time, but when she's hungry, she gets fed. Hope that helps!

Oops! Sorry, at first I gave you six cheerleaders! :-D

Re: 9/19 Max AMBG 84 DAY FOUR!

Alexa, Someone, I think it was Sienne, recommended not feeding for 4 hours prior to the shot, and others said don't feed past nadir. One, Max likes to eat small amounts at a time, and it was all I could do to get him tested at the right times let alone trying to make sure he ate enough if I denied him food after +8. Two, his nadir was at +3 or +3.5. Even if he didn't eat past then, he would not eat enough at shot time to get enough nutrition throughout the day; I think his tummy is small from eating small amounts. Fortunately, it wasn't necessary with Max to follow a strict schedule or feed different carb counts at different intervals.

As far as now, I'm just trying to avoid overworking his pancreas to give him the best chance of getting this whole thing resolved. This has consumed my life, and between him and Emma, I've been way too busy for my tastes.

Ann, thank you! Hope Maggie is doing well today. I wish it were day six!

Ann & Tess, adorable monkeys! Thanks for the well wishes.

Anne and Muffin, thanks! Max never comes close to finishing his food unless there has been some mistake such as he got locked in a room or we were gone all day and the ants traversed the moat somehow. Even then there is never a clean plate after I feed him! I think its his royal blood; he just knows instinctively that if he were to finish his food, the hostess would feel worried that he did not get enough to eat. Therefore, no matter how hungry he is, he is always polite and leaves just a little bit to show his good manners.

Re: 9/19 Max AMBG 84 DAY FOUR!

Congratulations! Sorry we didn't stop by and send hurrahs before, but so awesome Max is doing to great! The feeding thing is sure a challenge, especially with small bellies and the look of utter hunger and ruin at around +11

Keep it up!!!

Re: 9/19 Max AMBG 84 DAY FOUR!

Hi Dale,
Nice job again today Max! Numbers that don't begin with a "1" are definitely easier on the eyes (and on Mom's stress levels)!

Yes, Dale, Bob gets shrimpies even with no pokes. He's very fortunate in that shrimp is also my favorite food ever. You should see the routine when dad brings home chinese food and we get to share shrimp fried rice. I spend a few minutes picking out most of the shrimp, rinsing it off to make sure there's no hint of salt or onion or anything else "bad for him" on it. Then he gets the shrimp, and I pretty much have vegetable fried rice.
And when I buy it fresh from the dock, I get two pounds. One gets "bagged and frozen" for Bob, and one goes in my belly. He starts screaming from the time I walk in the door and continues to do so until mine gets cooked and he gets to share.
The only time I don't share is when I dip the shrimp in dark chocolate fondue. He's not allowed anywhere near chocolate. Yes, fresh boiled and chilled shrimp coated with hot melted dark chocolate. The 2 best flavors in the world! Don't knock it till you try it

Carl

Max gets the same numbers off insulin and on insulin now, doesn't he? That must be a good sign.

Hmmm, I may have to try that, Carl. I like brined, chile-powdered crickets.

Thanks for stopping by Lisa. So nice Leo slept with you! Whole Cat gets good marks if that's the case.

Anne, Zener's PMPS is a nice number.

Rhiannon, gorgeous numbers for the day for Shadow.

I need to get some rest. It seems that Emma never stopped today, and she was up until after 9. Ugh. She sure had a short nap, and I had none!
