He's cuddly, affectionate, happy to do all his old daily rituals. When he's lying beside me and rests his head on my hand, I can't tell if he's feeling some discomfort, if his body is just working hard to be well, or if he wishes I didn't have to leave for work.

Best wishes to Chez Zener for a good report from the vet, and to Angela and Shadow.

Hi Lara! He's not in bad numbers today, just a bit of a bounce, so I'd go with #3, doesn't want you to leave for work! Have a good one.

(How DO you always have some link to something adorable and cat-related on the internet? It's like you have the whole thing stored in your brain!)

A nice sunny start for River this morning. Maybe he'll surprise you with some blue when you get home. I think he just doesn't want you to leave.

Carla, he completely surprised me by bounding forward as I was injecting him, and I do it really fast, so he was speedy. There was some wetness on his fur, so it was my first-ever furshot. Damn.

Amy, I have in fact memorized the part of the Internet that isn't a staging area for weirdos, and this reminds me of you. I think it might be you, but I won't blow your cover.

At 2 PM today I got the unmistakable feeling that a big ole headcold is encroaching on my well-being (Liz, this is my excuse for the wrong date). I'm all achey and dizzy and blah. So into bed, and see you tomorrow. Have a lovely, and healthy, evening, all.
 
Don't beat yourself up on the fur shot. We all do them. They are frustrating, but River will get back on track before you know it. Sending prayers for you to feel better soon. At least you can get some rest tonight with the fur shot and not worry about River.

Yep, we've all done the furshot thing. I am sure River will bounce back in no time. And I hope you're feeling better ASAP, too!!

Well if your going to do a fur shot (and we all have :roll: ) you picked a great time to do it so you can get some rest tonight.

We've all done it, so don't feel bad about the furshot. :smile:
You said this week is a long hour work week for you, so to turn negative into positive, it's good that it happened this week (also he's bouncing this week).

I know that sometimes you'd have to be quick to give a shot.
But I read somewhere (can't remember where but I'm sure it was somewhere on this board), that it's better to hold the syringe once it's in for a while, and then pull out slowly because if you pull the needle out too quickly some of the insulin may come out with the needle.
So I do "IN-FAST-OUT-SLOW".
I poke quickly, and once the needle is in I count to ten (or five depending on Lucy) while holding the plunger.
And I pull out slowly still pushing the plunger.
I think that when releasing the plunger, the tiny last drop of insulin gets sucked back into the needle, so I don't release it until the needle is out.
You may already know that, but in case you don't, and if River lets you, I thought I'd mention it. :smile:
