Good Sunday Morning to everyone. Still sending out our prayers for Punkin and safe trip wishes for him, Anya, Julie, and DH.
Gracie is doing lovely today. Lots of cuddles and purrs and somersaults on mamabean's head this morning. I hope this AMPS is a sign she is clearing her bounce and will get down to business on her new dose. It really is very nice that she is so flat. It's nice to just test her later in her cycle although I'll be more vigilant today since I don't know what she'll do or how fast she'll do it. A +3 should tell me whether she is clearing early or not. She and Tobey are back out on the catio....this time of year, I hardly see them during the day unless I spend my days out there...which I can't do. I'm so happy that she loves it so much.
Today is Gracie's first year annifursary on insulin. Her first high BG was on Sep 11, 2010. The next day, it was normal. On Sep 13, it was high. We figure Sep 12th was probably a bad reading. Our vet wanted us to wait longer to start insulin...she felt Gracie would come down on her own as the steroids were stopped and her chronic interstitial cystitis was under control. The wise ones in LL recommended we get started; I told the vet and she spoke with a vet endocriniologist who agreed with the LL folks....thus I knew who had the knowledge. So we started lantus on Sep 18, 2010. We were scared to death. She is so sensitive to everything that I was afraid she would have an allergic rxn to the lantus (worried the same when we switched to lev). Before we even gave the first shot, we had our hypo kit all ready ...put together from all the great advice from you all. Our vet thought she'd be off in two weeks. But we're still here. It has been the most awesome place we never wanted to be. We can never tell you all how grateful we are for your support, for cheering for her, for comforting us when her numbers were not good, for guiding us through our early low numbers, for making us laugh and laugh and laugh. It brings tears to my eyes when I think of ALL you all have done for Gracie and for us. We will never be able to repay that huge debt.
Just a few things we've learned on this journey (in no order of importance):
1. that "giving up" all of our social life, travel, and adventures outside of the home has not been as big a sacrifice as we thought when we look into that sweet, tiny soul's eyes and see her love for us,
2. that our incredibly strong marriage is even stronger than we thought,
3. that there are strangers who become good friends and who will sacrifice their time and their money to help out someone in need....someone they barely know,
4. that our vet doesn't know everything....and, in fact, when it comes to FD, really knows extremely little.....but she cares,
5. where to buy patience pants and how to share (Sisterhood of the Travelling Patience Pants),
6. that I can't stay up late to test Gracie and eat....it will only make my butt big,
7. that we must find time to exercise, meditate, and take care of ourselves (thank you, Michelle),
8. that more important than that green number is that Gracie is happy and healthy,
9. patience.....
10. that it's a marathon, not a sprint (Julie ;-) ;-) ),
11. when I am most anxious because numbers are high or low.....BREATHE,
12. that Lantus Land has the most incredible, caring, compassionate, SMART, funny, supportive, humble, patient, and kind people I know,
13. that this is Gracie's dance and Mike and I are grateful to be the ones following her lead,
14. trial and error and ECID,
15. that you all ROCK,
16. did I say patience?
17. to look at a SS before I try to answer a question and to read my answer again before I hit "Submit",
18. that Rebecca is a Godsend for giving us FDMB,
19. not to short change ANYONE in LL but that Jill, Libby, and Sienne are some of the most selfless people I have ever "met" especially because one of them is always there for us and they all have their own FD cats,
20. that I wish we'd changed Gracie to lev many, many months ago
We love you all. And here is a video of our Lil Stinka beating up on her baby brother (unlike Punkin and Anya)....but don't worry....he instigates it, too.  Have a great day...and special hugs to each of you.
