Harley stayed in the pink all night - that I know of. Did give a LC sn at +7. Seems like he is hungry about that time.

Quick question, although I know it is not really recommended, can I pre-fill a syringe tomorrow for Harley's PM shot. I will be gone and my neighbor (who comes in and gives the shot) will never be able to do 7.75. I leave home about 4:00 and Harley will get his shot about 6:15. Would a 1 time thing be ok?

Have a good Friday.

Re: 9/17 Harley AMPS 352 - question

Hi Pattie
Prefilling syringes is not recommended. Is there any way you can fill a syringe with colored water or mark it with tape to have as an example and show it to her today so you know she knows what she is doing?

I guess if you have no other option and it is only going to be prefilled for a couple of hours it may be fine but see what the "smart" people say about it.

Re: 9/17 Harley AMPS 352 - question

I've never prefilled a syringe, either. Someone asked me yesterday about my doing it, and I had to explain to them that the inside of the syringe may be latex covered, so it's not a good idea. The suggestion about filling a sample syring with colored water is a good one. Show that to your neighbor so that the neighbor knows where to fill it to.

I think on the Lantus Do's and Don'ts is also suggested that you don't prefill the syringes, either.

Re: 9/17 Harley AMPS 352 - question

Yes, I have read the do's and don'ts but wondered, since it would be in the syringe for only a short time, if it would be acceptable.

Thanks

Re: 9/17 Harley AMPS 352 - question

Hi Patty...I am wondering when Harley's last dental was? Forgive me for asking if you have answered this in the past...
How are the ketone tests coming along...?
How is Harley acting lately...still crying for food? LB action?

Re: 9/17 Harley AMPS 352 - question

Harley has never had a dental problem. Every visit the vet has said teeth look good. Yesterday, ketone strip was sightly pink so I am keeping up with the watered food and trying to catch him at the LB. Everything there seems to be good.

He is acting fine - actually he does seem to have more energy, running around, chasing squirls and the civies. There still is the problem with crying for food. I am giving him a little extra just to calm him down. After a while he does settle down.

Re: 9/17 Harley AMPS 352 - question

This is from the article linked in the sticky about pre-filling syringes:

Aventis Pharmaceuticals does not recommend prefilling syringes with Lantus and storing for any period longer than needed for application. In addition BD states the following (9): “BD does not recommend that any of our syringes be prefilled more than a few minutes in advance of the injection. There are no conclusive studies to determine the safety or risks associated with this practice.”

Ok, I will try and walk my neighbor into filling the syringe with the new dose. Tonight, Harley finally got into yellow after a day of pink. Hopefully tonight, he will stay yellow.

I plan on learning the new Precision Xtra meter that came in the mail. I am excited to see about the ketones as Harley still has not peed for me today.
