Georgia and Simon (GA)

Member Since 2010
Today Simon is a happy low blue and last night he dipped down to a 56. This is the second time in a couple of days that he has gone pretty low right before bedtime. He just seems to be bouncing all over the place. Mornings are higher (except for days like this) and then he may go even higher and then drop fast. I guess this is just part of this crazy sugar dance. Meanwhile, Simon is happy and playing around this morning meowing at his girlfriend, Rosie, who is outside the patio door.

Administering the Dasuquin has proven to be impossible since Simon won't eat anything that has it in it nor will he take it as a pill form. I never knew a cat that could bring a pill back up even when it is half way down his throat! My next step is to syringe it in his mouth. I'm waiting for a curved tip syringe in the mail and will then attempt it. Simon's problem is that he absolutely will not open his mouth so I'm not sure how the syringe technique will work either. Next step will be adequan if the Dasuquin won't work.

Yay for Friday!! It is a nice cool 60 degrees here today. I love it!!

That's the benefit of the curved tip syringes for getting it in the back molars. You'll find something that works for Simon. You know its a really good idea to practice assist feeding when your cat isn't sick anyways, to get them used to the idea. Not sure he'll appreciate the dasuquin part thoug

Good luck Georgia!

Re: 9/16 Simon AMPS 113

Great AMPS for Simon today!! What a great night too. Tarragon is doing the same thing. Up into yellow and sometimes pink, then down to green. Such a roller coaster ride. I wouldn't worry about it since Simon is feeling great. So good to hear that he is happy and playing.

I hear you on the pills/liquids. T is almost impossible to give liquid to and I have to put the pill wayyyy down his throat. We use adequan for our dog and love it.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Re: 9/16 Simon PMPS 168

I think Simon's PMPS is a little higher because he did the pukus thing today before test time. Once again, he was so nervous that I wouldn't be home in time for his dinner!

Karrie, you are right, it is a good idea to start practicing this syringe thing now when it is not so critical of a time. Hopefully, I won't have to ever do the assist feed thing, but since Cleo is a CRF kitty, I need to be practicing.

Melissa, so Tarragon and Simon are buddies on the crazy bg thing. Frustrating when the numbers dip low at night and hardly ever during the middle of the day when we don't mind testing and feeding. Don't our kitties understand we need our beauty sleep?

Celi, love your picture. thanks for the laugh!

Re: 9/16 Simon PMPS 168

Simon gets nervous that you won't make it home to feed him? Poor baby. He's had some very nice numbers today ;-)

Hows the ear issue going? I was wondering if you ended up taking Simon to the vet this last week, if you did i must have missed it. Leo's ear has cleared up! No more scratching and now its healing and scabbing over (gross i know). So i know no more sophisticat duck dinner for Leo! So turns out it was allergies!

Anyway have a great night Georgia and Simon.

Tracy, unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take Simon to the vet this week. His ear scratching is better today, but tomorrow he might be scratching again. I'm so glad Leo's ears have cleared up and you were able to figure out what allergies he has. I truly believe Simon's ear issues are allergy related but it is so difficult to figure out what he is allergic to.

Hi Georgia, that's a nice +4 there tonight. Sorry about the Dasuquin being so hard to administer. You've probably already tried the pill pockets. We had a cool day here, too, for us with it being in the high 60's and cloudy. Glad Simon's ears are better today.

I'm sorry Simon has been bouncing around but you are correct, Georgia....sugardance. Some of us dance faster than others

Have you thought about just doing adequan injections at home for him? I can't remember. If he's hard to pill, then I'd think about the injections. You have to give them once a week for a month or so but then it's just once a month. Subq just like you are used to doing.....

Hope Cleo is doing well.

Yeah i lucked out figuring out that it was the duck dinner that was causing the itchy ears, it was the only new thing i introduced into his diet and it only took about a week or so of him eating it to cause his itchiness. Fingers and toes crossed that you figure out what's causing Simon's reaction.
