Yesterday I started a dosecrease and screwed it up by a evening furshot. ohmygod_smile

9/15 Recap:

In spite of those icky numbers (onset please happen NOW!) Neko has been her usual self. I got lots of purrs when we got up for rowing as well as after shot time. I wasn't going to do a +9 early this AM as I had smelled Lev when I cuddled her after last night's +5 so I was pretty sure it was a fur shot. Neko kept on hanging around at +9 (when we get up for rowing) and going to where I sit down to test. I did pick her up and test, but I'm not reporting it. :sad: We haven't seen that kind of number for quite a while. Not sure it was a good test because 2.5 hours later when I did the AMPS test, she was way down. Could be a wonky test or a really good workout for her pancreas.

It's a gray downer day for me. Besides the weather, it's the two year anniversary of the Reno Air Races where the parents of a friend were killed. And then I read about the Naval Yard Shooting in Washington today. My heart goes out to the families of those who were killed.

I did the same thing last time I did a dosecrease on China...first shot at the higher dose and it went nowhere near the inside of her body...but boy could I smell it for several days afterwards! That drove me nuts too because every dose after that, I could still smell it and had to keep checking for wet spots or sniffing around her to see if it was stronger here..or stronger there...or here...or there.....Good thing nobody was here with a cell phone camera to take videos! Not sure how I'd explain "sniffing my cat" :lol: :lol:


It's cold and grey here today too. Would have been a great day to stay in bed, but had a list of things I had to do. Guess summer is really going away :sad:

Hi Wendy, sorry to hear about the fur shot. At least Neko had some good numbers for awhile last night.

I'm sorry about your friends - I remember the Reno Air Show tragedy - what a shock - it was horrible.

I hope you have a sunny feel better day tomorrow & Neko's numbers fall back in the blue & green. How long does it normally take for cats to adjust to a new insulin?

okay....as sad as that is....it did make me smile.

I always say this: FUR-SHOTS are the worst..... :evil:.....there is nothing like waiting around for 12 long hours to try again....and talk about stress when it is finally time to give the shot........

sorry about your friends....so awful

good luck with the increase....I am always watching....and so hopeful along with you that this is neko's insulin!!

Bummer on the fur shot ohmygod_smile . As you know, I am an expert at giving fur shots. And even after all these years (4 years with Stu and 3 with Rusty, so far) every time I give one I am just devastated. But then, Rusty gets back on track. Happy days again! Neko will be fine. You just have to figure out her dose on Lev., because it will probably not be the same as with Lantus.

Very sorry about your friends. And there are no words to describe the insane tragedy that happened this morning.

Looks like Neko has recovered from the furshot?

You know, when I was doing the "tent" method, I did furshots sometimes.
Now, I divide her fur to make a line of skin visible, and just grab a bunch of fur and pull away from the line, slightly angled away and upwards.
I know you are more expert and you don't need a shooting tip, but just in case it may help.....
I never do a fur shot with this method unless Lucy suddenly moves.
This is way better for a long haired cat like ours.

Yeah - back to blues!

@Chris - Now I get to reset the cycle timer on this dose. :YMSIGH: Oh well, it happens and at least Neko does recover. Lev doesn't seem to smell quite as strong as Lantus, but still enough to detect. Maple trees are starting to turn colour, gonna be hard to deny that fall is coming.

@Suzanne - Neko is back to blues already, but it'll take a few cycles for the depot to fill again. Not sure how long it'll take for Neko to adjust to the new insulin, but it'll probably take me longer to figure out her patterns. Gotta get her in better numbers first. The Air Show thing was really hard, completely unexpected and lots of ongoing issues.

@Kelly - The cranberry powder (generous pinch bid of a brand called Cranimals) is for my civie who has idiopathic cystitis. It's what his vet recommended. He has had crystals in the past, although his last cystitis episode he did not.

@Carla - The worst part about fur shots is they seem to travel in multiples. :roll:

@Ella - Neko recovers pretty quickly from the fur shot too. Just a setback in seeing what this dose can do. I wasn't expecting the Lantus dose to be the same as Lev and will keep going up until I find a happy dose. This morning brought back memories of how hard public events like this can be on the families. They don't need the publicity, law involvement, etc.

@Mariko - It'll take a few cycles yet to completely recover from the fur shot. Neko moved at the wrong time and I wasn't shooting in the best light so couldn't see the skin properly. Today I put on an overhead light. Now it's getting dark out when I shoot. :sad: I do the same method as you with the hair.

I thought I was geeenius when I discovered the fur pulling method. :lol: :lol:

I noticed too that it starts getting dark earlier now.
I have hard time seeing the blood bead from ear pokes! :-x
