looks like he's beginning to clear the bounce as usual. Hopefully he surfs some nice numbers today.

Can someone take a look at his SS and share thoughts about what dose I should leave him on with the pet sitter for the next week? I'm leaning towards 2.0 but would really appreciate some eyes in there. we reduced him when we went away for two days at the beginning of the month, and it's taken this long to get him ALMOST sorted out so it seems his shed empties pretty fast, on the other hand I really want to keep him safe... am wondering about starting him out at 1.75 for a few days and then upping it to 2.0 for the final three knowing that he'll probably be needing it by then. BUT, she won't be testing...

so... all input appreciated! Thanx! We leave tomorrow so his evening shot tomorrow will be by the pet sitter, and we won't be back until Sunday 23rd.

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 dose advice for sitter?

That's a long week away. I hope you have a good time.

Will the sitter be staying at your house and monitoring Rupert? Will he get fed mid-day and mid-night?

1.75 is a little hard for a sitter to measure. Please remember to leave an example syringe filled with colored water or juice, for the sitter to compare her dose to.

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 dose advice for sit

and a usual nose dive into the lagoon for Rupert at +4.

Sitter is NOT staying in the house with the cats, she'll be here twice a day to feed and shoot, our folks coming by at Noon each day to top up food and check on everyone. Food left out over night for everyone (this apparently worked fine last time, even food left in the bowls in the morning so Rupie will have access if he feels like it). Given how he's diving on this 2.25 dose, I'm leaning towards the 1.5, as per last time. It won't be enough, but it will keep him safe and we know we can get him back on track when we get home.... I agree, 1.75 is hard to see for someone not used to doing this so I'd like to go a 'solid' line one way or another. Am still thinking about the 1.5 for the first four days and then the 2.0 the next three.....she phones me every day after shot time with a report so we are in communication and I can change my mind 8 million times (luckily my cat/horse sitter is a SAINT!)

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 dose advice for sit

I don't think it's wise to go from 1.5 to 2.0 while you have a pet sitter there who isn't testing.

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 dose advice for sit

so, still looking for answers here... should I drop him to 1.5 and leave him there for the 8 days, or drop him to 2 (he's currently at 2.25), and leave him for the 8 days? thoughts?

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 dose advice for sit

Thoughts: It looks like around the end of July you were shooting 2.25, and you had the sitter give a S2.00 and it seemed to work pretty good. Is it the same sitter? How do you feel about having her give the S2?

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 dose advice for sit

she takes direction well! I think the s2.0 would work, and if she shaves too much that's not the end of the world, but at least we'd know it was UNDER 2 one way or another.

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 PMPS 135 ?!!!!!!!!!

so, just to keep me truly guessing, because Rupert really likes to confuse me, he throws me a 135 Pre shot.. his shot is due in about 20 minutes........I'll give him his regular dose and will be monitoring him all evening of course!

good grief. just to get me wiggy before we leave. Definitely now leaning towards the shaved 2.0 for him whilst we are gone. silly boy!!!!

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 PMPS 135 ?!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Rupert has figured out you are leaving.
I don't think I've seen Rupert do that before.
Wow. Great for tonite.
Hope Rupert can just surf some tonite.

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 PMPS 135 ?!!!!!!!!!

AWWWWW, he's asking you not to leave him!!!!! He saying, "Please stay here with me mama bean. Those silly horses aren't sick like I am. I NEED you. They just like you! STAY!!!!!!" Interpretive mind reading by Deborah. Best wishes on the dosecrease, Nationals and a well-behaved Rupert!

Good night, Deborah

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 PMPS 135 ?!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Rupert! At least you know this dose can work for him when you get back. Have a great time when you are gone, I'm sure Rojo will do well.

Re: 9/15 Rupert AMPS 374 +2.5 268 +4 70 PMPS 135 +3 59

well, nice green surf for Rupert so far tonight. and yes, it's good to know that 2.25 is the dose that works for him for when we get back.
Am going to go with a skinny 2.0. Will explain and leave example syringe out for Noelle. She'll be great. I'm a little disappointed that Rupert seems to be back on track just in time for us to upset things all over again (doh! ohmygod_smile ) but at least I know where he needs to be when we get back.

I'm a little paranoid that he'll sit in high numbers for 5 or 6 days in a row and hoping that it won't undo any of the 'good' stuff we've got done so far, hoping that it won't mean that we lose a lot of ground and that he'll be okay. Of course I know that he was probably in super high numbers for some time before we figured out he was diabetic but obviously I don't want him to go back to that stage. I doubt he will and at least he'll be getting SOME insulin whilst we are gone.

ack, panic attacks coming hourly now! both about heading to compete at Nationals (I think we are ready but you never know till you get in the ring!).. and more so about whether all the cats will be okay whilst we are gone (I never worry about the horses, Noelle does such a great job, and since she's now taken on the cats, I have no doubts she'll do a great job, but as a typical mamabean, I get super stressed! I think Rupert will be fine, I worry about his older sister Bumley who gets very sad when we go away, and also Sophie, tends to not eas as much as I'd like. Polly will be fine, she's very independent , and Oliver could use losing a few pounds and can take care of himself pretty well too since he's only be 'not a stray' for less than a year!

Hope everyone has fun with their kitties whilst we are away, I won't be reporting back in until Sept 23 evening at the earliest. Will start a condo tomorrow but won't get much time to update it thru the day. Thanks everyone for the input!!! Looks like I"ll be up for another hour or two monitoring Mr. Rupert the Drama King!

edited to add: nice bit of a surf there, finally broke out the fancy feast and gravy at +6, before that was surfing on spoonfuls of regular friskies. Rupie also had a couple of Temptations just now (gack, I know, high carb but he was getting so pissed at me with all the ear poking and general hovering about that I had to bribe him for a test). Figures he'd dip below 50 the night BEFORE we are about to leave. ohmygod_smile. Might shave his dose a hair more for sitter.. will depend on how he reacts tomorrow.

With that 41, he earned a dosecrease to 2.00. I would consider, having the sitter try 1.75, even though it's hard to measure  .
Maybe you could call it a Fat 1.50, measure to the 1.5 mark, and add this much (don't forget to leave out a new example syringe, if you already made one up for her last night).
Good luck at the Nationals, and congratulations on going. I missed that post. I'll have to go find it ..
