Yesterday's Shiny Happy Condo

Hmm. :-| I'm thinking perhaps he went low last night and I didn't catch a glimpse of it. I went to bed very early, and while that may have been good for me and my Doc's appointment... well, I don't think it went all that well for Rufus. When I took his AMPS it was 310, and his +5 (as early as I could make it - the appointment lasted longer than I expected) is nearly a 160 points higher than he was yesterday at this time. Well, I can't exactly expect consistent results from an unregulated cat, but that's still a big jump.

WCR: Alert, purring, coming when called (seriously - what cat does that?). All signs point to "normal". Currently taking a nap on the cool floor... poor furballs, we're expecting semi-high temperatures today, so I'll be running the fans and AC.

(John-Finn is being neutered today! We pick him up tomorrow. :-D )

Ok, since the +5 update Rufus has thrown up some hairballs (ok, one big one and then a few spit-ups - all around 2pm)... and I have wasted a nearly-full bottle of strips ( :evil: @ ME).

I was finishing up doing my +7 test, and I had placed my kit on the floor. When I went to pick it up, I realized just as I was lifting it that I hadn't fully closed the bottle of strips, but it was too late... there must have been 40 or so strips in there. Then they were all over a floor... which could definitely use a steam clean relatively NOW-ish. I wouldn't trust them if I picked them up and tried to save them, so... in the trash they went. Bleh. At least I still had three bottles still in the cupboard, in their boxes, all with 2011 exp. dates, so I shouldn't have to buy so many strips at the start of the next month.

I was so mad at myself I started talking to RUFUS as if he could answer me. "Rufus! Can you believe I just did that? And don't tell me that you can, because I KNOW you can - it's a perfectly "me" thing to do!... oh, right - treat. *dig through bag for jerky nernie - Rufus takes his treat and gets the heck out of dodge*"

Well, that itty-bitty disaster is now over with, and I can go on with the rest of my day. I'm certainly not happy about Rufus' numbers today, but it's not a huge disappointment or anything. I'll lengthen my day from now on and stay up until at least 10pm (that's PM+3 for us) to check for any signs of hypo that I can see at that point. It's better for me to get the extra sleep with the medications I'm on, but I'd rather be a little limp and take a nap half way through the day than have him in a bad condition that I could have prevented just by being a little cranky and, as a child belonging to an employee of my mother's used to say, "I can't want to!", in the morning.

Well, with a PMPS of 274 it seems we've been surfing the upper 200s today, which is what he did the day following his first Night Of Lows... which, coincidentally, was exactly one month ago. @-) kinda weird.

He's in a good (that was first typoed as "food"... which fits just fine, too, actually) mood today, and loving the afternoon feeding. He acts like he thinks I'm making a mistake and I'm going to figure it out and take away the food. :lol: Silly boy. Er, I can't really tell you much more. He's been downstairs most of the day, playing and doing other cute Rufus things.

In other news... I stabbed myself with his insulin syringe tonight and must have gotten a nerve or something, because my thumb will not stop throbbing with that pain I remember from my botched Wisdom Tooth-ectomy. It went all the way through, too - two puncture marks. (I'm giving myself a gold star for Not Crying Like a Total Sissy and Swearing Like a Sailor, Instead).

I'll be back for a +3. :)

I wish they had a post icon for "wishy washy". After last night's spectacular screw up... I wonder if, after surfing all day today, he isn't going to just sink like a lead weight now that his insulin is kicking in. I'd love to go to sleep... er... and apparently so would he, because he just ran upstairs like he was under fire. :roll: (I scared him when I "eep"d at a spider. Now he's all upset). I wonder if I should, though. I reeeeally don't want to wake up to an AMPS trying to top today's 310, and neither does he.

Nearly 40 points in 20 minutes? I'm thinking that's not good, and I know it's not normal for him. Guess I'll figure it out.

What a day you had! I have to admit, I appreciated hearing that I'm not the only one who threw away new strips that were "tainted." Cleanliness first!

Everything considered, Rufus is doing pretty well, and he sure is cute.

Unless your strips got wet, they were probably fine. I would have tried using one to see if it worked.

'Scuse me for interrupting your condo, Bee... Sienne, I always thought that if the tip that touches blood became dirty (in my world, that means I touched it :lol: ), it could possibly lead to an infection. Is that one of my unfounded worries, or one of my "founded" worries?

Lol, that picture made tomorrow morning's fatigue look a lot better! (I imagine a lot of people have thrown away those strips and just not admitted to it!... or at least I hope that's the case. :lol: ) And isn't that face precious? Norwegian Forest Cats have that eternal baby face that Rufus managed to inherit from his papa. To be honest I've never seen a cat I didn't adore. It's torture for me to go through PetSmart when they're doing an adoption drive... which is why I avoid PetSmart like the plague. (I assume that's Kitty in your avatar? I don't know if Kitty is a he or a she, but he/she has beautiful coloring (with what appears to be a perfect expression of feline sarcasm, too)! :-D

Rufus is definitely gorgeous.

Kitty is a he. I find his expression serious. He never mocks me. (HAH! :lol: ) He does have beautiful blue eyes, in case you can't tell from the photo.

We have a pet store here that rescues kitties. I can't stand to go in!

I think you won for the night! Sweet dreams. You earned 'em.
