Yesterday
Happy Friday Eve to you all! Raja has 3 Ps so far today. The DPS came yesterday to go over all the stuff she needs to know.
Q: I am not sure whether she should shoot Raja with .25u for the 2 weeks that I will be away.
Can anyone help me please?

I am leaving Saturday for 2 weeks in Oregon and DPS will be coming 3 times each day,; two times to test, feed and shoot and the afternoon visit will be to test and feed my two darlings. I am getting a pain in my stomach just thinking about this.
She seemed fine with the small dose that i showed her on the syringe....but I am just wondering what others think about what dose I should tell her to give Raja. In the past, Raja went without insulin for the short times I was gone, but this is 2 weeks so I am not sure that it would be good for Raja to not have any insulin at all....thoughts kids?

Nice start for Raja! Oh I know how you feel about the pit in your stomach. I have never been gone for longer than 3 nights, so I can't imagine for 2 weeks. I would say that since DPS is testing, .25U would be ok. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along and weigh in.

Hope you have a great trip and a great Friday eve!

Hi Pat,
I think .25 would be a good idea for Raja's dose while you are away. I know that you will be in contact with DPS, and that she will be monitoring. If you begin to see that Raja's numbers are creeping up, you can ask the petsitter to fatten the dose just a bit.

We know that you will worry, but try to have a good time anyway. Raja and Shadow will be fine. If they get a little off track, you will be able to get them back on when you return. They are lucky kitties to have everything so well provided for them during your absence. It's great that your other daughter will spend time with them every day, too.

We wish you good weather for your visit to your DD and a safe trip.

Hi Pat.
After looking at Raja's SS, if she were my kitty I might want to keep closer to the current dose. Maybe ask your petsitter to fill the syringe just below the .50u mark? A skinny .50 (which I guess is almost a .25u.) But Raja hasn't seemed to drop too low on the current dose and it is an easier dose to measure.

How does Raja eat when you are gone? If she doesn't eat as well, then a smaller dose would be safer. My kitties tend to eat more when I'm gone and my petsitter has to set out extra food - but every kitty reacts differently. Just thought that the food/eating issue is something to consider regarding the dose.

Two weeks is a long time to be without insulin and last time you had to do that for a few days, it took a while to regain what you lost, so shooting something is definitely the way to go.

Best of luck!
