Well, I had planned on doing a curve today, but dummy me waited until I only had 5 strips left. I wasted two of those last night trying to get the +2. Went this morning to get new syringes and strips. Big surprise - Wal-mart had neither. Hopefully they will get more in this evening. I have noticed he has started spending more time in the living room with the rest of the family. Never thought I would say this but..I'm ready for him to start stalking Bacall again. His back is healing up from a horrible allergic reaction. I don't know if I have ever mentioned that he use to sneeze constantly. I stopped feeding him anything with Beef and he hasn't sneezed in over a week (keep your fingers crossed for him)!

I guess that's all for now.

Hi Denise! :mrgreen:
Here is the link to yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24870

That same thing happened to me one time in Walmart awhile ago! :o Then another time when there was none in the display unit, I went up to the desk and asked them to look behind there and sure enough, in the random box they have there we found 2 boxes. I have bought two at a time so I know i have them on hand. I just did that yesterday as a matter of fact. I m in test strip heaven now!
So, it might be a total coincidence, but lately I have noticed that there are boxes and boxes always on display at my Walmart and I think it is because of ME! :mrgreen: Thank you, Thank you (bowing to the crowd) Between the lancets, syringes and test strips I buy there I feel that I am doing my very best to help keep Mr. Walmart rolling in the dough! :lol: But I never see just one lone box there anymore.
They must think it's a hot item and worthwhile keeping well stocked!

My two had a terrible reaction one evening to Sohpistacat beef & chicken I think it was.
Shadow started scratching his neck and within an hour he was really ripping his skin off....Raja had some itchy spots on her legs and her back by her tail. They both went through a terrible time with their skin so I do not feed beef of any kind to them. They say that is highly allergenic for the cats and my two really had bad reactions to it.

I began also making raw chicken with a powder from Feline Future. I mix it with Wellness and Evo 95% chicken and turkey and their fur has improved tremendously without the by-products. It's good if his skin is getting better now...
How is he doing otherwise?

Denise...did you get the syringes with the half unit markings?
I use the Walmart Reli-On 3/10ml 29 gauge 1/2" syringe ($12 for 100 I think)

Do you work during the day?

I copied yesterdays link and then forgot to paste it :oops:

I went to get the the syringes but they were out of the ones you suggested. I will be making to another trip to Walmart in the morning and (hopefully) getting them and his test strips.

There was a little more to scoop out of the litter box this morning, but nothing like in the beginning. He's still wanting his crunchies, but I'm not giving in. I think I mentioned he is spending more time with the family now. He's still not running and playing. He did try to trip my dh this morning. That has always been one of his favorite games. I haven't noticed a lot of water drinking though, so that's a plus too.

I am home most days, just not any set hours. I'm with and animal rescue organization so it varies day to day, hour to hour. I've finally gotten a few more volunteers for a new program so I'm not running everywhere constantly now. As soon as I get more test strips, I will start doing more BG checks. I've been slow on doing that due to a few factors. One being it's hard to get dh to understand the need for it. He's an RN and can't seem to grasp there is a difference between treating cats and people :roll: I think I'm making progress though. Plus money had been an issue up until lately and just plain putting it off because I felt so bad about poking him one more time.

I was horrified when I first learned about home testing. :o BUT, i quickly realized that NOT testing was like driving down a freeway at 90 mph with a bag over my head. I had two kitties to test at the same time! It became like an assembly line. :lol:
My Raja started on Vetsulin with her brother Shadow on Aug 5 2009. She had her OTJ party on Dec 5th. :mrgreen: On night I ws testing her because she was low and Shadow came up and basically stood in line to be tested too. LOL. I wasn't planning on testing him at that time, but I did it anyway because he was so cute to do that!
I was amazed at how well they took to having their ears pricked. And I never once gave them a treat in order to do that either. I have a testing towel and many times Shadow just jumps right up to be tested or shot. He is feeling so much better now and his fur is gorgeous. I think they "know" that you are doing something important~and something that helps them. Your DH is another story :lol:

He would probably faint if he saw Shadow's SS.... :o
I quickly saw that their BG numbers change so much during the day and night that I NEEDED those numbers. Getting them was non-negotiable. Giving insulin makes those numbers vitally important. Keep up the good work Denise... :mrgreen:

Hi Denise, You can order test strips and (I believe) syringes from Walmart's website. They arrive quickly and the shipping fee is very reasonable. The closest Walmart to me is 50 miles away, so it is often much cheaper to order online than driving 100 miles.
Nice to hear that Sidney is being sociable again!

Denise...I noticed you asked about the 5 Ps in someone's condo....
We believe that our kitties are so much more than just their BG numbers so there is a short way to discuss the other important areas that define a happy kitty.
They are:
P=peeing
P=purring
P=pooping
P=preening
P=playing

those are the 5 Ps that we refer to....my two don't get the 5th P so often since they don't play as much anymore...but we always keep an eye on the pooping everyday especially. LB action(Litter Box) is so important and we are diligent about recording that. After changing the diet, they sometimes have problems and we sometimes give 1/4 teaspoon of Miralax with lots of extra water in their food. Some people have success with tuna oil.
So, we might say in our condo "All Ps present" or "4Ps accounted for so far today" :mrgreen:

Not sure you if found the Lantus Slang Dictionary in the first sticky....we use some of those terms here too so you might want to refer to that too.... http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/r ... sg-1402630

You might want to mention to your DH that one of the big differences between people and cats is that people can tell you that they are feeling crappy if their BG is running low. Last night, Gabby was acting perfectly fine -- except her BG was 28. I'm a certifiable testaholic (even Pat said so!). I would suggest that an analogy would be helpful for your DH -- if this were an infant, would you not test? There's no guarantee that any of our kitties will eat when their BG is low, even if there's food in their bowl. It's the same with an infant -- if a bottle is sitting there, will a child spontaneously feed him/herself? You test to keep your cat safe and to know if you need to make sure they eat to stabilize their BG.

Thank you for telling me the 5 p's. I called myself looking through the slang pretty good but could not find that. I had figured out what four were, not the preening one though :lol: I guess he's doing pretty good most days, since the 5 p's are all usually present.

He was being extremely stubborn tonight and I wasn't able to get his PMPS.

Getting dh on board has been a long, slow process, but like I said he's coming around ;-) He admitted if it were Gabby, our dog, he would be doing the same thing. This whole dx was a shock even though I was pretty sure what it was before the vet confirmed it. This board is definitely a godsend. I so appreciate everyone on here for the support and information. Hopefully, one day I will be able to give needed advice.
