Georgia and Simon (GA)

This yellow number is very unbecoming on Simon this morning. I'm not sure what is going on. I fattened his dose slightly yesterday so could it be due to ndw? The other question is if Dasuquin can raise bg? I started Simon on Dasuquin last night and hoping that this yellow number is just a freak thing. Is anyone using Dasuquin and if so, have you seen any change in numbers? Also, Simon was not thrilled when I put the powder from the capsule in his food. He ate it but it took him a long time. I am afraid that he will not eat it once he smells it again in his food today. The proper dosage on the bottle says 2 capsules if a cat is over 10 pounds. Simon is 14 1/2 pounds but I am wondering if 1 pill will be enough to see a difference in his leg stiffness. Another question: can I give Simon the whole capsule (pill him) instead of putting the powder in his bowl if he won't eat it? Sorry I have so many questions this morning.

Other than this ugly yellow number, Simon is acting like normal, hanging out with his sister and watching me get ready to go. I have off today from tbp but am going to the doctor for a follow-up and then on to a church friend's funeral. I'll check on condos later today.

Re: 9/13 Simon AMPS 213 Dasuquin quest.

I don't know about Dasuquin. J.D. wasn't particurally fond of Cosequin. He would eat his food evetually after topping it was crumbled freeze dried treats or something, but wouldn't finish his meal, which is unlike him. On the other hand, Ginger (J.D.'s civvie sister) loved the Cosequin and would quickly finish her meal so she could get to J.D.'s. Strange cats.

Could the full moon yesterday also be playing a part in the higher BGs?

Re: 9/13 Simon AMPS 213 Dasuquin quest.

sorry but I have no advice to give you. Hope someone comes along with some help for you and Simon. Hope his stiffness improves and his BG comes down.

Re: 9/13 Simon AMPS 213 Dasuquin quest.

Morning to you and Simon. I was wondering if the pill can be cut in half? Giving him the pill would be a good solution, too, if okay to do so! Sorry, I'm not much help. Good luck with your doctor appt.

Re: 9/13 Simon AMPS 213 Dasuquin quest.

Hi Georgia.....

Zoe used to be on Dasuquin, when she was OTJ. I never noticed a change in her bg levels when she was on Dasuquin....and I checked frequently, especially when adding or changing something in her diet.
I don't know about pilling it....I don't see why not as long as you follow with water or something.

Good Luck....it helped Zoe tremendously....her back legs became much stronger and she was back to jumping to the kitchen counter (I'm not sure this was a good thing! ). After she was diagnosed with pancreatitis she also seemed to become very sensitive to products with fish in them, so I had to stop the Dasuquin because of the natural fish flavorings. I am now looking at Adequan injections for her.

Have a good day and I hope Simon comes down from there!

Re: 9/13 Simon AMPS 213 Dasuquin quest.

Sherry actually sent me Zoe's leftover Dasuquin to try for Champ and it hasn't affected his numbers. Also, I don't know if you would want to pill the Dasuquin because of the capsule itself. Maybe you could spread out a bit of a pill pocket, pour the powder on it, roll it up so it's all inside, and give it to him that way. I mix the powder really well into the food and add some water and Champ doesn't seem to mind it. It has helped his movements, though, so if you can get Simon to take it, it will probably help him out.

Re: 9/13 Simon AMPS 213 + 5.5 211 Dasuquin quest.

This 211 at +5.5 is just not the normal Simon. I'm pretty sure I did not give a fur shot.

Sherry, I'm glad to know that Dasuquin really helped with the stiffness. I hope it will have the same effect on Simon.

Patty, what a terrific idea to use the pill pocket because Simon loves pill pockets. Unfortunately, I just tried it and even put a little parmesan cheese on the outside of it to entice him to eat it, but no luck. Simon turned his nose up at the pill pocket with the Dasuquin. He usually eats everything so there must be some taste or smell that he doesn't like. Simon's vet warned me that lots of cats just don't like the Dasuquin and that is why he recommends the Adequan. Not sure if I want to go there yet.

Ann, unfortunately, the Dasuquin is in a capsule so I can't break it in half. I may try to just add a little of the powder over all of Simon's meals throughout the day. Maybe he won't notice it as much.

Jill, thanks for the link to pilling a cat. I usually have to pill my other cat, Cleo because she won't ever eat any food with medicine in it and she hates pill pockets. I always syringe water in her mouth after, but to get the pill in her mouth, I pull her head back. I'm going to try and avoid that and use a different technique now that I read the link you gave me.

Re: 9/13 Simon PMPS 142 +4 50!

What is going on here? Simon started the day in the 200's and now is only 50 right when I was headed to bed. I guess the ndw bounce is over. I just fed him some FF since he turned his nose up at the wellness. He also hates the dasuquin in his food so I am going to have to give him it in a capsule. Claudia suggested putting it in a smaller empty gel cap since the dasuquin capsule is pretty big. I will re-check in about 30 minutes.

Re: 9/13 Simon PMPS 142 +4 50!

Way to go Simon! You weren't kidding Georgia! Of course tomorrow is my big monthly meeting. I run around all morning getting everything together then have to present it. Why does this never happen on the weekends? And Tarragon is being picky on eating tonight. Uggggh! Hope Simon doesnt go any lower and you get some rest tonight!!

Re: 9/13 Simon PMPS 142 +4 50!

oh wow - look at Simon go! Of course these things never happen on the weekend, or on a day when you are home. Busy night for you - I hope he starts his surf soon. No more dropping Simon - surf, OK?

Re: 9/13 Simon PMPS 142 +4 50 + 5 77

77 is much better. I just fed Simon again. He is having no problem eating the FF so I am expecting his numbers to go higher or at least surf with a few more mini-meals throughout the night. I will re-check again in another 30 minutes. If he is about the same or higher, I think I will be able to get a some sleep. I will set the automatic feeder to go off in the middle of the night.
