Monday and Wednesdays are hard days for us to get home and get mid-cycle check, but we managed somehow.Yesterday was a mix of pink and yellow, we are hoping for blue to make an appearance today!

Zener's appetite is good today and has been pretty consistent the past couple of days. We have not had to use appetite stimulant for almost 2 weeks! Today is the vet appointment for acupuncture and to have his anal glands checked. Also, our people vet appointment for Liz to get results of her final tests for the skipping heart beats, which is MUCH better. Full reports to follow. ;-)

Zener got so close to blue last night. Come on down Zener! The blue floor is where all the cool cats are. Hope he comes down for you today. Great great news on the appetite! It is so nice to get them off of the meds. :-D

Good thoughts for your vetty appt. I have never had our cats anal glands checked. Our 100 pound lab has to have his done every few months. I keep trying to convince my husband to save us $20 and learn to do it, but he won't do it. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thanks Melissa and Celi! Heart doc appt was fine. I need to NOT sleep on my back. And I might get my nose drilled out for better breathing but that's the next appt with another doc. Heart looks fine and BID doses of magnesium have greatly diminished the PVCs.

I'm with the DH on cleaning out the anal glands. :lol: :lol: :lol: I think it's worth $20 to get a professional. Also, Zener has very narrow hips so it's extra uncomfortable for him. The lab would be a lot easier from that perspective but then again it's a 100 lb lab.

when my son cleaned up anya diarrhea yesterday morning, then came and told me he did it i was thinking "AWESOME SON!!!"

then I realized he was carrying a "good" washcloth and he tossed that washcloth onto the laundry pile by the washer. and i'm thinking "THIS IS WHY WE BUY PAPER TOWELS AND LYSOL WIPES!"

i was torn between "i love you for cleaning up a mess you found" and "i could kill you for using a good washcloth to do it."

some things are worth spending money on. a pro (or anyone who's not me) expressing anal glands would be #1 on my list.

glad you got a thumbs up on your heart, liz! that must've been scary!

What a crazy day today, between bean vet appointments and Zener vet appointments, plus jobs, we were a little crazy and couldn't visit condos or post Zener's numbers. Thanks for all the support and encouragement! Liz's report from the cardiologist was good and Zener did great at the vet. Acupuncture was really relaxing and he was in a special room with nice lights, table, chairs. The only thing missing was music, and a glass of wine (for Liz). Zener's anal glands were really full and he let the doc express them without hardly a wiggle. He is already walking better and is more bright eyed. He must have been in pain and we didn't know how much! So, all in all, a good visit to the vets was had by all. :thumbup

Julie, the poop patrol and clean up story is hysterical! I'm forever grabbing still good washcloths or dish towels, thinking they are from our "rag" bag, and Liz has to remind me those are not appropriate for cleaning up kitty body fluids! :lol:

Just because Zener thought our day was far too dull, he dropped over 100 in two hours - +2 174 :shock:
And now we are in the blues!
Liz was the voice of reason as I panicked and was pulling out the HC, and pointed out these were good numbers and maybe we could steer the express train with MC, so we gave 13% and will check again in an hour.

Hi Anne and Liz:

Sorry to just visit your condo now. I know Ann (Tess) and we sort of use 50/hour as a number that is ok....anything over and we try to slow the drop. How you do that is up to you.....whatever works best for Zener.

You asked on our condo today about what I fed her with the karo. First, I would prefer to not use karo to slow Gracie down.....sugar + diabetic = no sense. However, we've tried everything with her in the past and we can't usually get her stopped by using HC food without totally skyrocketing her.....eventually. In the meantime, she would continue to sink. The karo works for Gracie. Last night, I wanted to be careful because I knew she should start coming up but I didn't want her to get below 50 yet.....we'd just started the dose and I thought she had some weird bounce clearing or full moon thing going on. So I gave her Wellness 4% turkey with just a teensy bit of karo and it bumped her up to 56. Then she came up to 67 but then dropped again to 61. I gave her a little bit more LC with no karo and she came up nicely. We're still trying to discover how she will deal with low numbers and carbs on the lev.

Good luck....these words drive me crazy "trial and error" but it's a painful step we all have to go through. And just when we have it figured out...we have to do it again :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thanks for the info on how you control the drop, just in time too as Zener dropped 64 in an hour! We've cracked out the high carbs - FF turkey with gravy 17%. Zener is very excited about this food!
