9/12 Xander AMPS 144 +2 81 +3 68 +4 81 +5 82 PMPS 134 +2 134 +3 99 +4 88

It's SO much easier with him having a good appetite and willing to eat when given food (mostly). A hairball never came, maybe he just had a minor stomach upset, or maybe it was something psychological as I can get a bit stressed when he doesn't eat and he's in the 50s.

I did order the egg yolk powder to see if that helps with his gut. He mostly poops normal, but it can be a bit dry and small here and there even with the wet food diet. Since starting all wet food, I haven't really seen him drink water. I tried mixing in water with his food to add some more but i'm pretty sure he doesn't like it because he likes more texture to his food. Maybe I will try out a fountain.

I'm rethinking the best strategy for giving the higher carb 12% food to try to flatten his curve and prevent those +2 and +3 sharp drops. Rather than give the higher carb food starting at PMPS tonight, I think I might try at +1 or +1.5, closer to when the insulin starts to kick in

Good luck with the trail change in feeding! Everything is an experiment and it's helpful to try stuff out to see what works best - hope this helps Xander 🤗

I tried a fountain when Binx wasn't loving drinking once and it definitely helped. One with a stainless bowl and low sound I found is best.

That's what im thinking, I first tried a fountain about a year ago but it was a very cheap one that poured downward and had a constant hum. He barely noticed it, but my other cat loved it. I ended up not keeping it because of the constant low frequency hum though.

I saw a wireless one at Sam's that is motion activated with a stainless bowl I might try.

I have the older model of this, and I really like it. It holds the charge well. It's quiet. Very easy to clean. And the filters aren't really expensive.

That said, I am only able to get water into Jude and Hazel by putting water in their food; they simply don't drink from a bowl or fountain. But I have it for them at the ready all the time. The triples (my three other cats that live in a different part of the house) only see the fountain as a big water toy. The drink a lot of water from the fountain, but it's all done in play; they also splash the water onto the floor (literally dismantling and emptying the fountain--it's/they're a real blast!).

The 12% food is actually medium carb, not high carb ;). If you find that after feeding a little MC he starts to flatten out at next test, great! Then I’d switch back to higher LC as I suggested previously blend a little MC with your usual LC to get a “higher” low carb, around 6-9% and see if that keeps him flat. You want to find the right balance of carbs while allowing the insulin to keep working for as long as possible until next dose. If you find he’s nadiring early, pull back in the carbs.

Good point, I'll change my notes to reflect that it's MC rather than HC. I wasn't sure what the cutoff of high carb would be, above 15%?

It appears the medium carb additions of 9g at PMPS and 16g at +1 may have been a little too much tonight, keeping him at 134 at +2. Is this a bad thing, as he didn't reach the greens by +2 tonight, or is it more of a good thing that he stayed pretty consistent?
