As has become the norm for Trix these days, she's heading the wrong way after dipping her toes in the lagoon. Maybe someday she'll get past LTS...again. Not bad numbers, though...not "old style Trixie numbers", but I'm beginning to think those are a thing of the past...

I have to take Mario to the vet to check his thyroid and BP this morning. I hate going to the vet....

Have a great day, everyone!

Amy

Re: 9/12 Trixie AMPS 147 +3 162

Morning Amy - not too bad of a start for Trixie. Mannie does that +2 spike thing to me all the time. For him it's a food spike, and I hope that it is all it is for Trixie too. Come on down girl - the greens await you.

Good luck with the vetty visit for Mario - hope it goes well. I don't like taking them either, even though my vet and I get along well, have a great relationship. My kitties tend to disagree!

Have a great day today.

Hi Amy, nice blues and flat can mean exciting things to come. Sending good Vetty vines for Mario for his thyroid and BP checkup. I hope he won't be too scared. They just hate the carrier and ride. Let us know how his checkup went later when you get a chance.

Re: 9/12 Trixie AMPS 147 +3 162 +6.5 230, Mario Vet Visit

Why oh why did I go for that +6.5??? I knew I was going to get what I got...why did I do it ohmygod_smile ???

Mario's vetty visit was so-so. The good news is he gained almost half a pound in the last month. He has HyperT, and as a result has been trending downward weight-wise, so this was good to hear. Maybe this means we FINALLY have his thyroid under control. Over the last year, we'd get it under control for a few months, then have to adjust, get it under control, then adjust. I'm sure this is the way of HyperT, but this time around we haven't been able to regulated for the last couple checks.

However, his BP was the hightest it's ever been, despite being on meds. It was just over 200. Even with accounting for "white coat syndrome", that's too high. We're waiting for his thyroid results to come back (in the next day or so) before we adjust his meds, but no doubt we'll be doing that. And, of course, this means we get to go back yet again in a few weeks for yet another check. Poor Mario...I hate these frequent vetty visits.

On the ride home, I did happen to remember that he recently started eating a different food, and maybe it's too high in sodium for him. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner, so I have some research to do.

Big sigh...can't seem to get any of my kitties regulated in any direction...

Re: 9/12 Trixie PMPS 229, +2.25 181, Mario Vet Visit

We'll probably go with yet another dosecrease this weekend. As you all know, it is SOOOOO frustrating to keep increasing and see absolutely/virtually no change in numbers....these numbers really aren't any better than when she was on F2.00 last month. This is such a crazy disease...

Re: 9/12 Trixie PMPS 229, +2.25 181, Mario Vet Visit

Amy, I feel so bad for you, I hear the hurt in your words. If Mario was able to gain weight, don't you think his thyroid must be somewhat under control? Don't people/cats lose weight with hyper T? That was my concern when Checks kept losing.
HypO is my excuse for not losing weight

I hope the food is the reason his bp is up. Easy enough to cut down sodium...okay,not so easy...for hoomans either :YMSIGH:

Amy, I know how we all love the green, but them's nice blue numbers Miss Trixie is giving you today

Re: 9/12 Trixie PMPS 229, +2.25 181, Mario Vet Visit

Mario's weight issues are probably combination of the hyperT, his other meds, and his age. He's not horribly underweight, but slowly trending downward, so I'm always happy when he either stays stable, or - like today - gains. Hopefully we do have the thyroid regulated this time around. The BP situation has me pretty anxious, though...I don't like seeing it up that high at all. I'm trying to remind myself that, even if he was fairly calm while they were taking it, he WAS at the vet, and no doubt that did raise it a bit. He was NOT happy with me when I woke him from a sound sleep and hauled him off this morning.

I feel so spoiled that Trix is diabetic, and I can do all of her testing at home, rather than having to haul her off. I wish I could do the same for Mario...

I hear you when it comes to having a cat that needs remedial LTS.

Is Mario on BP meds?

Hi Amy, just catching up with Mario's Vetty visit. It sound good with the thyroid but I hear your concern with the BP. So what does the Vet do about it, a recheck or change the meds. Yes, the white coat syndrome would add to it, too. Glad to see Trixie coming down; Trixie has company as Mags isn't too swifft today either. She has nice numbers in the middle but not the am and pm, yoy! Have a good night.

He's on amlodapine, twice a day. He gets .625mg in the morning, and .3125 in the evening. She has him on that funky dose, because last winter, he was dropping too low, so she thought he had too much overlap going on. No doubt we'll be taking him back up to .625mg in the next day or so, after we see what's up with his thyroid levels this time around. I'm sure we'll be rechecking it in a couple weeks, after the dose adjustment.

He's also on a pretty hefty does of transdermal tapazole for his thyroid.

Fortunately, he and Trix are on the same 12/12 schedule; however, the vet did mention today that SOME cats do need the BP meds 3 times a day....

I feel your frustration & understand it so well..Guess I may be there with Moonie soon like Mario--
The FD part, you will eventually get under control..You will find that elusive breakthrough dose, and Trixie will be better again. Trixie has been doing better...
Thanks for giving me the info for the vet, she was surprised that I knew so much!--I Owe you :-D
So lucky to have friends here lie you!

Hope That Mario also settles into his meds & gets as stable as he could be..
Maentime--Hugs & Love from us!
