Scratchie'smom

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate help on the dosing for Scratchie as I don't know if it's yet time to increase to 1.75u or let him ride where he is. One problem is that I work every week day so I am having to do his mini curves, etc. on the weekends. That would probably be best for me is to do any increase/decrease on the weekend so I can watch him. My DH is retired, but he doesn't help with the testing or the shots.

Please note that around 8/6 through 8/22 there are some blank spaces where I didn't get any BG numbers on him. He was on an AB for severe diarrhea and very miserable, very sick and since I knew the AB would increase his numbers and he was hiding, I just let it go. The weekend of Labor day he had an infection so I had a topical steroid that I gave him 2 treatments of (vet gave one, I gave one spritz) BUT discontinued that when I saw that it raised his numbers by over 200 points.

Since that weekend I have been trying to be very diligent in getting numbers off him and basically as many as I can. Again, weekends are best.

Scratchie is starting to run when he hears the word 'test', but then he sits down, wags his tail and is very patient. :YMSIGH:

Any advice will be welcomed! I need to do the best for him as I failed at the beginning in not getting him to 'wet' food or possibly things would be different. He's my heart and my baby...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Jo

I don't have dosing advice but I wanted to tell you how glad I am that you are posting over here.
I feel like you've taken a huge step in helping Scratchie.
Welcome to LantusLand. :-D

Jo...... You have NOT failed Scratchie ! Like most of us, we didn't know any better and were brainwashed by the petfood companies. Look at you now. You're doing great at bringing your kitty back to good health. You should be proud of what you are doing!

Scratchie is bouncing off of the blues from last night. With people who are new to Lantus or if you can't be home to monitor, we generally discourage increasing the dose while a cat is bouncing. The reason is that if the bounce clears (i.e., numbers would be coming down) and you increase at the same time, it's important to be able to monitor since numbers could run low. It can take up to 72 hours for a bounce to clear. Since you want to wait until the weekend to increase, there's a good chance you can increase Friday at PMPS. Will that work for your schedule?

Sienne,

Friday at PMPS would work purrfectly! Mind if I holler on Friday to make sure that's best?

Or do I need to post each day as the rest of you do? New to LantusLand.

Jo

You're not required to post daily. However, it allows us to get to know Scratchie. There's also a benefit to visiting other people's condos. There's a lot of information you can absorb just by reading. If you post in other condos, people stop by to visit, provide support and answer questions, etc. While almost everything here focuses on the cats, this is a community and people will rally for Scratchie and for you.

Sienne's correct in what she told you. Posting often does allow us to get to know Scratchie, and you, too. :-D Welcome to this wonderful board, too. :-D You've definitely come to the right place, and we're all here to help and support you. You'll do fine. :-D
