Ugh - should have taken Weeble's and Ronnie's advice and not gotten up last night. But I did, and she was 211 at +30! Since she went out to play last night at dinner time instead of eating, when she finally did eat, it was probably more food at once than she's used to eating. Not sure if that played a roll or not, but I'll be sure not to let her eat that much in one sitting. This morning is a little better and a new day, so let's see what she does today! I hope she brings it down, as tomorrow and Friday I won't be here to do the post-eating checks. She's been outside already, grazed on breffis, and in the LB now.

Hope everyone has a great first day of September!

Will you be able to test her again at +4 ....see if the 4 hours brings her down...don't give her food between now and the test, okay?

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187

Ok Pat, I can get a +4 today. She's already eaten some, but I'll pick the rest up now.

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187

Hey Muffin, were you a little piggy, last night?
Anne, I hope she's coming down for you today. It's hard to not let them have all the food they want, when they look at you with those big eyes and act like you're starving them.

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187

Ok, she's 152 at +38.75, not quite 3 hrs after eating this morning. Thought I was going to be able to get the 4 hrs after, but apparently I overlooked a ride I need to be giving my disabled DSiL's father (is there a name for that person? there must be) Anyway, it is down a little bit, and I will check again when I get home. Still won't feed her til then.

It is hard Barb, at least now I won't have to be here for it!

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187

you will update later then, right>
Uh...I think he is just called your DSIL's father!!!
Relationship names like that are interesting. My husband's sister is my DSIL...but her husband is nothing to me. He isn't really my DBIL... I had looked that up a long time ago...he is my DSIL's husband..and that's that! Same principle applies...but you are still very nice to drive him around!

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187 + 42.5 150

I got home 6.5 hrs after feeding and she's 150. Much the same as when I left. I can't help wondering if I missed the "window of opportunity" Feeding her again now, as she didn't get much to eat yet today, but she doesn't seem ravenous. Not sure if she'll eat enough to warrant a "main meal" amt, so don't know if I should bother to check her again in a few hrs or just wait for pmbg. Leaning toward waiting, as these numbers are only discouraging me. She did eat some, (FF) so I will only offer Wellness and chicken until dinner. I don't want her to go hungry, but I don't want her to eat any more of the FF than absolutely necessary and mess up her chances. She did play a little bit with her packing peanut before eating, and then ran into the testing room again, thinking she had to be poked again in order to eat. So cute! Now she's settled in her spot at the computer getting some lovies and preparing to nap some more no doubt.

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187 + 42.5 150

come on, Muffin, down a little more...

don't forget that your meter is probably reading higher than the human meters, so the numbers aren't as bad as you think. I'd like her lower, but sometimes cats do wobble around in blue at the beginning of their trial. Keep doing what you're doing, small meals are better than big meals and keep testing to see if she is coming down after food. Keep trying to push the wet too, the best you can.

Goooooo Muffin!

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 ambg 187 + 42.5 150

Ok Libby I'll test her at 7:30pm, that will be 3.5 hrs after her snack. And I'll keep trying on the wet food. Thanks for checking in on us.

Re: 9/1 Muffin OTJ Trial Day 2 + 42.5 150 +46 119

119 3.5 hrs after snack. Giving her another smaller snack now. At least she came down some. :thumbup

Hey! Much better. Congratulations.

By the way, how's it going with the wet food? I know it gets old when people keep bringing it up, but misery loves company and I'm currently suffering through Weeble's withdrawls...

Lol Amanda - the wet food is still a no go with Muffin. I actually quit offering it for a couple days when I thought she was going to start eating the Wellness Core dry - one thing at a time. That's actually gone nowhere too, so today I started offering the wet again. Muffin's a stubborn one, and has no qualms about holding out for her FF dry, knocking everything she can onto the floor to let me know she's not satisfied with this other foreign stuff in her bowl. To be honest, I have 0 expectation at this point that she will ever eat wet food, but I will continue to offer it, and I'm sure her brother Kibby will continue to come along and eventually eat it for her. But for the time being, I'm concentrating more on just getting her to switch dry foods (I think the wellness is 11% which is loads better than what she's eating now) because it's the only thing she's shown even a remote interest in.
I hear you about misery loving company. Not that I'm glad you're having the same problem with Weeble, but it IS nice to know I'm not the only one. I hope it goes better for you.

They are very cat-like, aren't they?

I know what you mean by one thing at a time and how hard it is to do. When I was switching to a dry she didn't like a fed it as a treat a couple times and started out by putting 5 pieces in the bowl and then growing it slowly from there. That switch took over a month and she never knew the difference. I was aided in my patience by her IBD and you could probably do it in 2 weeks, but the slower I went the less resistance I got.

With the canned food, I forced myself to only offer 1 type (2 max but many hours after I had offered the first) a day, and just resigned myself to the fact that I would be wasting a lot of cans. I would pick up the dry bowl, not even for long, just when I knew she was going in to eat, usually in the morning and put a tablespoon of the canned down in a different bowl. If I used the same bowl, she would just be mad there was no dry in there. If she walked away, that was it, she's not interested. If she did more than lick it, it had potential, but I didn't offer anymore and tried it again the next morning. It took absolutely forever, and we're still far from out of the woods, but it's better than nothing.

Also, she wouldn't eat boiled chicken either. And when we were told to feed only duck protein, she wouldn't eat the boiled duck. Then one day I pan fried it and cut it into tiny pieces and she ate it. And has been ever since.

Again, I would be remiss if I didn't pass along how I got the little success I did--since your kitty seems as stubborn as mine--I don't want you to think I'm wagging a finger. You can only do what you can--lead a horse to water and all that...
