HAPPY SEPTEMBER!!!

Can hardly believe it's September already!!!! :o Lots going on in my family and I'd appreciate your prayers. My DGS is due in 25 days and my daughter is miserably swollen, even with reducing her sodium and propping her feet up as much as possible she says it hurts to walk. She is a middle-school band director and can't exactly sit in class with her feet above her heart!

Also, my MIL has been mostly in a wheelchair for more than a year, has Parkinson's and a number of other issues. She has been falling a lot lately and my FIL can't get her up on his own. He's been taking turns calling Doug and his brother to help. She confided in my SIL that if they can't get him some help, they'll have to put her somewhere. She is only 69 and this is heart-wrenching for us, especially Doug.

And, my mom has been diagnosed with fatty liver disease. (She has high BP, is overweight and has diabetes.) Her spleen has also almost shut-down. She is having almost constant back and abdomen pain that only surgery will correct. But, the surgery can't be done as long as her platelets are so low. She has been a widow for almost 9 years, works 6 days a week and is 76 years old. She has always been secretive about medical issues, which is one reason this progressed so far before my sisters and I knew about it. I'm waiting for more details about what can be 'fixed' and what this means for her life expectancy/quality of life. I haven't even discussed all of the details with Doug because, honestly, I just can't form the words.

Sorry to be so OT, but I'd appreciate you remembering us...

HERSHEY is doing well today. Pretty much holding my breath to see what his PMPS brings...

((((Libby)))) sending you and yours TONS and TONS of healing and comfort vines. I'm sorry that your loved ones are dealing with all sort of complications and I truly hope they will all get better soon.

It's nice that Hershey can give you numbers to smile about. I hope he surfs the day away for you for you so you have one less thing to worry about.

Hugs!

Re: 9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +4(77) +5(64) +7.25(75) PMPS(272)

Oh Libby! I'm so sorry to hear about all of this. Sending healing vines to your MIL and your mother. By the way, I don't know how your daughter does it...pregnancy or no pregnancy! MS BAND!!!!! haha! The few times I've conducted high school students in the pit band for our musicals was enough for me!!!!  Think I'll stick to HS Chorus! :-D Best wishes to her!

Those are some pretty nice numbers for Hershey. Hope they stay pretty! Happy Caturday!

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) +7.25(75) PMPS(272) +4(

I just noticed Hershey favoring his left front paw. I held him while Jessica took a flashlight and magnifier to look at it. He will meow if you touch it, but hasn't tried to nip at us or anything. It looks almost like either a blister or that he's stepped on something. Can't tell that the 'something' is still there. But, he's not letting us examine that closely. I didn't notice him favoring it earlier, so I'm thinking it either a 'blister' that has popped (no liquid to be seen) or that's just stepped on something.

I opted to leave him alone and watch him until after supper. Jessica thought y'all might have an idea...And, of course, it would happen when Doug's not home

THANKS!

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +4(145) FOOT?

I looked for the antibiotic ointment with lidocaine, but couldn't find it. I found the regular antibiotic ointment, though. But, where's Hershey? I found him laying in the laundry room by the LB. Jessica held him while I put some on the pad. I couldn't feel anything in it. Jessica put him on his blanket on the futon. He now seems to be asleep there. Just not sure what else to do but watch him...

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +4(145) FOOT?

Libby,
Can you push his middle pad and make the nails extend? Mullet was limping one time and when I did that I found he'd torn a claw/nail. It was still there, but noticeable cracked. I clipped it and that helped some, put some ointment on his toe and he limped for a couple of days, but then he was fine.
He's also stepped on sand spurs before but they were more obvious and he was fine once the spur was removed.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +4(145) FOOT?

Hi Libby, I'm so sorry for all you're going thru with your family. Saying prayers and sending vines for your MIL, your Mom, and still working at age 76 with all those medical issues! Has she tried to get Socil Security Disability? Also vines and prayers for your daughter. I hope she can take a long pregnancy leave after the baby. Poor Hershey's paw. Did you see a bite or splinter by any chance. Keep us posted on Hershey.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +4(145) FOOT?

Prayers for your family. I've added you to our church prayer tree so you have a whole congregation praying for you this week.

And poor Hershey.
I'm guessing black paw pads so it's hard to get the best look but how about a bee sting? or wasp. It is that time of year
and they can get in the house.
Even a dead bee in a window can still sting if it still has a stinger. I know. I stepped on one once that was on a bathroom mat.
A wasp wouldn't leave a stinger and after a few hours it would just be very tender, especially to walk on.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +4(145) FOOT?

Libby, I'm so sorry for the medical problems your mom and MIL are having.
I know this weighs heavily on your mind. :YMHUG:
And then to have Hershey have a sore foot too.....
I'm sending along healing vines and prayers, for your moms and hope by tomorrow Hersheys foot will be better, or you can see what is bothering him, and are able to fix it. Poor baby.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +4(145) FOOT?

((((Libby))))
Sending extra-strong healing vines to your DMIL, DM, DFIL, DD, and to Hershey, too, for his foot. It sounds like he might have a splinter. He'll probably be "working" on it himself. I hope he'll be fine by tomorrow.

It is so worrisome when the older generation has issues they ignore and/or won't talk about. I know exactly how your mom feels. My mom was the same way, and I tend in that direction myself!

I hope that all will work out for you and your family and that good solutions can be found to help your mom and Doug's parents to continue to lead their independent lives.

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +6(43) FOOT?

From your title I want to say "WAY TO GO HERSHEY!" But as I read through your post, it's evident that Hershey is just trying to be one less thing to worry you. Good boy, Hershey!

So sorry for all the challenges you're dealing with there. Trusting that all are close-by and that each situation will improve soon. Sending prayers and healing vines to all of you.

Lu

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +6(43) FOOT?

(((((Libby))))) I am so sorry about the medical issues of DM and DMIL. That is so hard and you can't make it all better. I know what that's like and it's really tough. Thinking of you and your family and sending healing energy to all. Thinking of your daughter and baby, too. And Mr. Hershey Mint Kiss, what is up with you? Can you come up a bit for a nice green surf? Libby, have you tried looking at his foot with the light and/or magnifier you use for shots or drawing up the dose? Paws crossed that it's a minor thing.
Liz

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) +5(64) PMPS(272) +6(43) FOOT?

Thanks, Everybody, for visiting us, for your well-wishes and prayers for my family and for your foot suggestions for Hershey.

Hey, Tamara - Yes, it's nice not having to worry about Hershey running high today, now if he'll just surf and not go too LOW! :o

Hey, Deborah - I can't imagine being in a class full of middle or high schoolers all day!

Hey, Carl - I was going to try to push his paw to extend his nails (sounded like a good idea to me) until Jessica reminded me it's his front paw and he's declawed!

Hey, Ann - I think Ginnie only gets 6-weeks maternity leave. She wants to work part-time for the rest of this year, but has to find a sub the principal will approve. At this point, she doesn't have a principal-approved sub for her maternity leave! She keeps presenting ideas/options, but he vetoes them. Her husband and I told her not to stress over it, the baby's coming when he's coming and if there's no sub then it'll be the principal's problem.

Hey, Rhiannon - Yes, ma'am, black pads. The pad looks different, almost worn, that's why we were thinking a blister. But, a blister would leave water of some sort. I'm absolutely stumped. Thank you for adding us to your church's prayer list; we appreciate it!

Hey, Barb - Yes, our parents do weigh on my mind and heart. Trying to just give it to God.

Hey, Ella - Yes, my dad ignored his health. He was one of those afraid to find out kind of guys. We begged him to go get checked out (even enlisted two of the grandchildren.) He died 3-weeks after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. My mom has been better about keeping a check on things, but doesn't care to share it. Thank you, I'm hoping some help can be worked out for my MIL so she can stay at home. Another problem is that we've been trying to help for several years. Now that's he's realizing he needs help, most of the grandkids have gone to college/moved away.

Hey, Lu - Yes, Hershey is a good boy! Yes, both moms are close; we live about 6 miles from each. Ginnie is 1-1/2 away but delivering about :45 away, so hoping if she calls before they leave home we'll arrive at the hospital about the same time. My mom actually BEAT us to the hospital with Jessica! :-D Thanks for the prayers!

WELL - I lost track of time and didn't test/feed at +5. Looked at the clock at +6

+6 (43) - Fed (I put the food down before I test him.) - Added tsp 7% when I saw (43).

And, now I realize it's been :45 since I tested....I'm failing miserably tonight...

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) PMPS(272) +6(43) +6.75(40)FOOT

I hope the antibiotic ointment does the trick.

I'm always fascinated by parents who won't turn to their adult kids for help. I suspect your mom would be royally pissed if you didn't tell her about a problem! FWIW, once they get her platelets back to normal levels, you can live without a spleen.

I hope things settle down for you. It sounds like you're dealing with a lot.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) PMPS(272) +6(43) +6.75(40)FOOT

Hey, Liz - Sorry I missed your post. Thanks for the well-wishes. You're right; I want to make it better and these aren't things I can 'fix.' Guess Hershey didn't read that part about coming up. But, at least he's not dropping. I am carrying him to the food bowl to get him to eat. Seems he doesn't feel it's worth the discomfort. Yes, we used a flashlight and the same magnifier we use for dosing...AND, I used Jessica's young eyes! When it came time to put pressure on it, she held him and I played the bad guy. Jessica said he likes me better, so was less apt to bite me!

+6.75 (40) - fed tsp 7%

Hershey is still hobbling. After meals, he goes to see if we've forgotten to take up Oreo's bowl...so he can help us clean up if we've forgotten. ;-) Tonight, he jumped down from the futon, headed in that direction, stopped and laid out in the floor like it wasn't worth the effort.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) PMPS(272) +6(43) +6.75(40)FOOT

Oh my gracious - that is alot on your plate. I will keep your family in my thoughts - tons of well wishes for them.

I am sorry Hershey has hurt his foot. Could he have injured it playing, like strained a muscle? It sounds like maybe he stepped on something. I hope the ointment helps. it always seems like these things happen on a weekend.... Feel better vines for Hershey!

Numbers are good today - well done Hershey!

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) PMPS(272) +6(43) +6.75(40)FOOT

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts, and prayers. I'm also wishing for Hershey to make a full and speedy recovery, too. :YMHUG: I hope that things will be back to normal very soon for you all.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124) PMPS(272) +6(43) +6.75(40)FOOT

((((Libby)))) We are sending all kinds of prayers and healing vines for your family. That is a lot to deal with all at once.

Poor Hershey! I hope it is just a sting or strain. I would just keep an eye on it. Have a relaxing night!

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124)PMPS(272) +6.75(40) +7.5(46)FOO

Hey, Michelle - Thanks for the well-wishes. I don't know about Hershey's foot. It seemed localized to a particular pad, so guessin' that's not muscular? I'm afraid I'm terribly ignorant about kitties' anatomy. I hoped the ointment would help, but it doesn't seem to have. I don't think I have anything else here to try; I have no idea what to try even. I'm hoping it goes away as suddenly as it came.

Hey, Angela - Thanks for the prayers. We can certainly use them!

Hey, Melissa - Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes. Things do seem to come all at one time, don't they?

ooh man, I'll definitely be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers .. it seems like everything is always going well or everything is always going bad doesnt it? Hang in there, you guys will make it through all of this!!

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124)PMPS(272) +6.75(40) +7.5(46)FOO

That's a lot of your shoulder Libby. I wish I (as a Buddist) can tell you how I look at life to ease your burden.
There are stages in life, at this stage we have to face aging fragile parents. Our kids growing up & starting their own family and we worry about their life too. Our health is slowly going downward and life is not easy. Everyday we have something now comes up to impact our mood. All these things will happen and we are here to learn the lesson of life. Sometimes we mange, sometimes we dont. Dont be hard on yourself, nothing is perfect. Take each day & each thing at a time. Everything will fall into place & as long as we give our best to it; feel at peace.
Baby will bring hope & happiness to the family. No matter how difficult, life will go on.
You're in my thought.

Re: ????9/1 Hershey AMPS(124)PMPS(272) +6.7540) +8.5(52)FOO

Hey, Devon - I appreciate the thoughts and prayers! I guess that's where "when it rains, it pours" came from.

Hey, Helen - Thanks for remembering us. As a Christian, I believe this is only a temporary time. I believe our bodies wear out due to sin and that it's a reminder this isn't our forever home. But, it doesn't make it an easy thing to watch our loved ones decline. But, on the other hand - many years ago, I knew a woman who had out-lived her husband and several of her children. It was so sad; I don't want to be like that, either. There is a time for everything...

I really appreciate how y'all have rallied around me today. Honestly, some days are just harder than others. All of this information has culminated this weekend, plus Hershey's foot tonight (and feeling helpless about it all). But, on the bright side - church in the am, then I get to see my boy (briefly) tomorrow afternoon. So, YAY!!!!

+8.5 (52)

Hershey did stand on the arm of the chair for a few minutes, tenderly putting that foot down. He's not crying with it or anything, so it just bothers him to put weight on it. Even then, he's not crying with it. Hoping it's better in the morning.

I think I'll get ready for bed and test one more time, hoping he's looking good enough to leave for a nap. It's just over 3 hours until shot time.

Re: 9/1 Hershey AMPS(124)PMPS(272) +6.75(40)+8.5(52)+9.75(70

Awesome. Headed to take an almost 2-hour nap until shot time. Been a long day, eyes are pretty much crossed. Doug is out of town today, so cut the grass yesterday. Guess who's allergic? Yepperz. And, guess who's been paying for walking outside not long after he finished cutting? You guessed it. Much harder to function when you can't breathe easily.

Again, THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart for your support today!!!!

Goodnight... I-) I-)
