We're switching Atlas over to Lantus with the blessings of the shelter vet. Atlas has been doing well in recovery on the Humilin N, but now that he is of healthier weight etc. The N is not holding duration and pushing it for duration even half a unit causes a steep drop.

With sufficient information through the home testing blood glucose numbers and some help with insulin from DCIN, I was able to successfully advocate for this change.

Between Venita, the doctor, and me...we all decided on 1 unit twice a day for 3-7 days with spot checks along the way. I am more or less on vacation this week and the timing for this couldn't get any better!!!

So, just a few minutes ago we did our first dose with a reading over 500. I knew early this afternoon the N had already petered out so I am not too concerned with an overlap.

Since I had time off, I started the google sheet, but I am not sure anyone can view it? Of course it only has one entry on it right now.

Good luck with Lantus. I'm finding it to be a very good insulin for cats, and am seeing improvements with my Blackie, who was diagnosed March 13th. All I can say is follow the protocol very closely. I've been following a not so tight regulation per the people on here, so I've been increasing her dose every 0.25u instead of the required 0.50u. People on here may suggest the same thing, and I would recommend it, too, considering Atlas has been in poor condition. This may be easier on his system if you increase the unit by 0.25u. Just a thought.

I look forward to seeing your spreadsheet. I think Atlas will do fine on Lantus. :)

Hi and Welcome to Lantus!
Here is a link to the Tech Forum...you will attach your SS to your signature and it explains how to go about doing that. Your profile is viewable..nice job with attaching that. I am going back to read it...
Can you tell us when Atlas was Diagnosed?
he has been on Humilin N since dx?
What food are you feeding Atlas...canned?

Does he have any other medical issues or is he on any other meds?

Please take a look at the starred stickies at the top of this Lantus page. There is so much information for you within...they are all important. So glad that you are here...I will probably be back again...

Hmmm...someone else fixed the profile thing. I couldn't figure it out. And I just tried to add the link to the spreadsheet... Ugh...

The introduction in the signature line has most of your questions answered.

We're now still feeding the Purina DM canned only. Atlas has been having some bowel issues and we at least know the DM is consistent. It also meets the criteria for low carb. foods. He is currently taking Tylosan for the gastric disturbance. We've tried everything else before now, including sending samples back to Purina for a quality check. In the meantime we tried following Dr. Lynns food recommendations. And still had no improvement.

Otherwise he has been gaining weight and meets the 5 P's of a happy cat!

The SS link doesn't work....maybe you need to make it public...publish it?
Do you have a date of diagnosis...
That isn't really a profile per se...it is a lot of interesting posts from early this year. Atlas has come a long way indeed.

Welcome, Atlas. (what an awesome name...it in the title of my 2nd most beloved book by Ayn Rand.)

We also were helped in our hour of need by Venita @ DCIN and the folks here at FDMB...you are in great hands.

good luck to you...these folks have a lot to offer, and they dont hesitate to offer guidance and support. i can tell you without a doubt that without their help, Binks would be in dire straits,- instead, he is progressing nicely and has a lot of new friends to thank for it!

good Luck!

Uh? The link works fine for me.

And other than my profile on here...I don't know what else you want?

As you can tell I am not, repeat that NOT, tech savy. I don't like having stuff spread far and wide on the internet, especially over at google. I attempted the SS thing after a brew hahaha a few weeks ago.

Maybe this was a big ole mistake ...again for me.

Hi there

welcome to Lantus Land.
May we know your name or shall we call you Blue?

As for the spreadsheet, it is a good way for others here to follow Atlas on Lantus and to provide their feedback based on what they see in each cycle.
Spreadsheets

If you are concerned about privacy and you're not able to set it up a spreadsheet, you may have to post several days of data each time you post so that we can see what happened the previous day and not to mention what happens on each dose cycle.

For a Profile, please see this link: Who's Your Kitty?
A Profile set up this way, is a very handy and quicker way to see information on Atlas' health history, meter, diet and any other crucial information that may be needed quickly. Please consider setting one up.

Please visit the Tech forum for assistance should you need it.
We hope to see you posting again!

Hi Blue and Atlas, and welcome to Lantus Land. You've come to the right place for help and support.
Don't be afraid to keep your spreadsheet on Google. You'll find instructions in our tech forum. Our spreadsheets are private to us. Outsiders don't have access if you follow the tech instructions.
Best of luck with your kitty,

Ella & Stu

That other link I had posted had the directions for making the SS available as a link..or "published"
I am posting it here for you to read......

B. Publishing your SS, aka Attaching to signature

1) In a new browser tab, open up your google doc
2) Click on the tab on the upper right "Share"
3) click on "Publish as a webpage"
4) Click the box that says "automatically re-publish when changes are made" (see pic below)
5) Copy the http link generated for you in the box at the bottom (see pic below) (use control C or command C to copy the link from the circled part in the picture above)

I am sorry if I wasn't clear in my other post. It's just that the link to the SS is a handy tool for people on the form to check to see Atlas' numbers...we all had trouble linking it at first because it is rather difficult.
Your SS link is there in your signature but it is just not available for others to view...

Welcome to Lantus Land!

If you don't "publish" the SS as a webpage, you're the only one who can open it. The rest of us can't see it.

Please do take a moment to set up a Profile. Rather than having to read through an entire thread from Health, without a profile, we'll keep asking you for the same information over and over and over again.
