Gus appears to be doing very well, but his new vet called yesterday with the results from his labwork. He's a little anemic, his kidney function is impaired and his urine had a higher red blood cell count than was expected. On our last visit, the vet injected Gus with an AB that is new to the market. It's a time released (good for 2 weeks) solution and is better for acro cats because they don't have to be pilled. I didn't know that when acros are pilled, it is important to have them drink or eat some food so that the pills don't stick to the lining of the esophagus, eventually causing problems. However, the vet is rethinking the AB based on the lab results. He suspects that Gus may need a broader spectrum to resolve the infection. So, my poor guy has to go back to have another urine and blood done in order to see if/how much improvement there's been. Gus is fine while he waits for the vet, but gets super upset when he's held done for the samples to be taken, he actually hisses and growls! Also, this vet wants to compare his glucometer to mine so that he can tell if we're comparing apples to apples. He said that he believes that we can turn Gus around and get his blood and kidneys back to a good level. As I see the level of care that Gus is receiving now, I want to strangle that other vet for not caring! I'm grateful and thankful for the attention he's getting now, I just wish he didn;t freak out so much. Sorry for writing a novel here but that's what went on in our house yesterday.
