I can't see your u100 syringe! My understanding is that they are marked in half unit increments, so yes, on the u100 I am assuming the whole units would be the bigger line and the small lines would be 1/2 unit markings.
You have one of each in front of you? If you can, draw up like three units of water into the u40, then squirt it into a tiny container. then draw it out of that container into a u100, and see if it comes up to the 7.5 line. You might have to use bigger amounts, but see where the water drawn into the u40 and squirted out comes up in the u100. Make sense?

Not quite.
Just draw up 3.0 units of U-40 insulin in your U-40 syringe. Then hold it
next to the U-100 syringe and it should line up approximately to the 7.5-unit line
on the U-100 syringe.
No need to squirt it into another container and re-draw it. You lose some liquid
that way.
This is just to prove to yourself that 3 units of U-40 you draw to the 7.5 unit-line in
a U-100 syringe.
Now trust me on this next part:
Just do this little bit of easy math (use a calculator if you need to):
Number of units of U-40 times 2.5 = the UNIT-MARK on the U-100 syringe.
For example: 3.0 units of U-40 times 2.5 = 7.5 UNIT-MARK on the U-100 syringe.
Don't worry if the unit-marks on the two different syringes don't line up exactly.
The internal diameter of the syringe barrel can effect this and different brands
of syringes. Just do the math or use the chart and draw to the unit-mark indicated.
Remember, though, always state your dose as the number of U-40 units. NOT
the unit-mark on the U-100 syringe. We, and your vet, want to know the DOSE,
not the unit-mark on the U-100 syringe.
And don't forget---the very first line, next to the needle on any syringe is 'zero'.
So for U-100 syringes, the very first line is 'zero', then 1,2,3,4,5 (first numbered line).
If you have 1/2-unit marked U-100 syringes, then there are little tick marks for the
1/2 units).
