Suzanne -
Everything that you document, tells a story. But LT darling, I'd prefer you stop showing us in such dramatic fashion!
I look forward to seeing how fast he drops today. You also know how a very small amount of LC food will abort a potential low! Up 20 points in a half hour or less? The bright side to this - LT is insulin sensitive; a tiny amount works efficiently.
Did you ride your horses yesterday?
Happy holiday weekend!

No, we didn't ride. DH got tied up with some work on the ranch. The new plan is to go on Tuesday - too many people on 4 wheelers in the mountains over the holiday weekend.

I love riding four wheelers, but I was on a horse that got spooked by those things. It was the ride of my life, and not a good one. Only ended up with tree branch scratches. Good call!!

Looks like slow going today:arghh:. I know he'll eventually bounce back. I'm wondering if he's still processing some of the food from last night. The dog's kibble is high in fiber and maybe that's why still a pretty high number.

I know ECID but, how long does something like this usually take to clear? Is it probably going to stay in his system a while? Should I hold on at 0.25 for a couple of days. Feeling a bit discouraged after my big mistake.

Suzanne, have you by any chance picked up a human glaucometer yet? If you'd like to do a comparison pick one up sometime - here on the forum it is 'the guage' by which we all see the numbers - and they look a bit better. I'm just wondering if he'd be down out of those pinks a bit sooner if you were using a human meter...

Just a thought - but if you're feeling discouraged it helps to see lower numbers :)

LT passed a foul-smelling very soft stool into his LB:eek:. He ate all of his food tonight shortly after the smelly poo event and then received his 0.25U. I'll be checking at +2 to see if he comes down a bit more.

So it's been 24 hours since the dog kibble incident. When should I become concerned that the BG isn't coming back down? Is it possible I need to start over again? At what point would I consider raising the dose back up? C

I'm so disappointed that I've failed LT.

You have NOT failed him!! You are doing great!

You might want to put your dog on scheduled feedings.....leave the kibble down for 20 minutes and then pick it up and lock it away so "somebody" can't get into it!

LT was just in the lagoon yesterday....give the kibble a little more time to work it's way out of his system.

The diabetic dog is on scheduled feedings. I just thought LT was locked up in the utility room so he couldn't get to the food, which is where he usually is during the dog's meal. There was a family issue and I was distracted and left the dog's food on the counter while it did it's 15 minutes of soaking in water. I don't think it will happen again.

They're sneaky little creatures!!

If there's kibble in the house, they figure out a way to find it!

When I had a dog, I had to put her food bowl in the oven so I knew China couldn't get to it. I was shocked the first few times I caught her eating dog food. I figured it wasn't rich enough for her to be interested but when it comes to our little carb addicts, I guess they aren't too picky about where they get them!

Suzanne, stop kicking yourself. I have an extra sweet girl who pilfers her brother's food so I play lunchroom monitor at every meal. I don't have other outside distractions and yet I can just turn my back for a moment and find her highness chowing down on the wrong bowl of food. It happens. If I kicked myself every time that's happened here, my butt would be pretty bruised!:woot: Cut yourself some slack. :)

Suzanne! You did not fail LT! He's a little scamp and you cannot control his every move! I didn't realize how mischievous and h3ll bent Luci was until I found chewed up candy wrappers here and there - she'd gotten into the trash and retrieved old Hershey Kisses and left the tin foil wrappers on the floor! Next there was the KitKat candy bar incident - my girl loves her sweets! Every now and then she reminds me to get everything off the kitchen counters! I have a super-clean kitchen, but every now and then I leave bread on the counter to cool...forget and go to bed - well guess who helps herself! She'll eat biscuits, cornbread, fresh bread from Costo and hamburger buns - darn it all! When will I ever learn? Maybe never...but I try...that's all you can do...keep trying to outsmart them...we put food into the cabinets, the microwave, the fridge - where ever - since she doesn't have opposable thumbs she at least (well so far) hasn't been able to master opening cabinets or appliance doors...although I'm sure she's sitting there watching...trying to figure out how she could..if only she could!

You're a great mama bean! Keep up the good work...just another lesson learned - by you, not LT. He'll be searching for ways to get the carbs his diabetes is causing him to crave...you'll just keep finding ways to outsmart him :)
