AMPS 332. Bubbas hasn’t take Cerenia since the night before last, so last night was his food night without it, so I was hoping he wouldn’t vomit which would mean his pancreatitis is under control, but he puked over night :nailbiting::arghh: so I’m assuming the antibiotics aren’t working :/
Ohhh Bubbas :( Are you able to give him more cerenia? Sometimes the antibiotics themselves make them nauseous, it's so tough to know. Hang in there, don't panic yet. Maybe tag Wendy to see how she manages the chronic pancreatitis?? Sending hugs and healing energy...:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much!! Bubbas needs that right now! :bighug::bighug::bighug: And I do have more! I just wasn’t sure if it is 100% ok to keep him on the Cerenia this long. I have enough until his check up in one week. I’m going to call his vet and try to get home in sooner tho. I didn’t think that the medication might cause nausea so that could be it. He only puked liquid, no hair balls or that poopy smelling and looking vomit like he use too. @Wendy&Neko could him puking after not taking Cerenia after only one night mean chromic pancreatitis? I’m having a fear that it’s something else more serious. The antibiotics he’s on is called Amox/Clav Oral Susp and I just looked it up and a side effect of that antibiotics is vomiting

Amoxicillin makes a lot of my guys puke on its own, but combined w/the clavamox it may be whats bothering his belly. Definitely see what Wendy says....:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh good to know! and yes I will. I wonder if I should take him in asap, or keep giving him Cerenia and antibiotic until next Wednesday and see how his body reacts to no more antibiotics. He supposed to be off it next Wednesday, then his check up appointment is next Thursday. So maybe that would be worth trying instead of taking him in today or tomorrow? Him puking just makes me feel like his pancreatitis is still there, but if the antibiotics could also make him puke, maybe it’s strictly just the medication doing it and that pancreatitis could be gone! Either way, I’m still going to take them in, but for work purposes, it would be better if I could just go to my schedule appointment next week, because I don’t have a lot of PTO right now to take time off, in my bed is only open Monday through Friday

Tagging @tiffmaxee who has had more experience with pancreatitis than me. I've only dealt with a couple short acute episodes of it.

Pancreatitis isn't an infection, not sure what the antibiotics are supposed to do to help. If you are giving antibiotics, a probiotic can help as the antibiotics also get rid of the goof tummy flora. Typically you manage p'titis by treating the symptoms. Which means Cerenia/ondansetron as needed for nausea and vomiting, pain meds as it's a very painful condition, and fluids. And yes, no problem giving Cerenia long term if needed.

Yeah I am not sure on what the antibiotics are for either, i thought they were for healing the pancreas lol but yes Ive looked into that and I think I am going to buy him the brand called "Ask Ariel" of the power probiotics. Am I able to give him Cerenia like every day as long as I need? As in for the rest of his life if he needs it that long?

Pancreatitis is rarely treated with antibiotics. There are exceptions but I was never given any. I used mostly ondansetron for nausea. Sometimes I used cerenia but Max rarely vomited good when his pancreatitis acted up. I used buprenex for pain. Max was on ondansetron for months at a time for some bouts. Cerenia helps better with vomiting.

I’m using the probiotic Visbiome given to me at the ER. It’s actually a human probiotic but I buy from the vet as my insurance pays. I get the capsules and open up and put in their food. It’s tasteless.

How many days has he been on the antibiotic? If 5 or more days I believe it’s safe to stop it as it’s rarely used for pancreatitis. That will help you determine if it’s the cause of vomiting. How’s the stool? I think it’s more commonly to see diarrhea with antibiotics but at times Max got it from chronic pancreatitis as well. Just not too often.
