Re-test in 20 min. If his numbers are still below 50, give more HC. (I'm assuming you're putting the Karo on top of LC food.)

We will, No just karo direct in his mouth, his last meal was 1 1/2 h ago

You might want to see if Bobby will eat some HC + Karo. A small amount of LC helps so that the Karo doesn't wear off quite so quickly.

When will our kitties understand that they have a whole 12 hours in their cycle and they don't need to do everything in the first few hours.

I think you have a lot more experience with skooter, giving you this almost close to heart attack moments, this is the second time for Bobby.

Skooter hit the 30s once and went as low as 32......NOT fun, but we got through it.....I had along conversation with him letting him know that he didn't need to go THAT low to prove his point he was done with a dose....since then (knock on wood) he has listened to me.....lol

lately his MO is to come RIGHT to the brink of a reduction and then turn his nose up and walk away from that line :roll:

He just likes to remind me we are on HIS time table, and not mine.....

oh, and congrats on your reduction!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that's an eye opener! He's coming up nicely, but of course you want to keep testing frequently until you have two numbers over 50 in a row that are not food or karo influenced. Surf safely, Bobby - and congrats on the reducie!!!!

We are doing good! thanks, Bobby seems just fine, he even started playing with the other cats, now he is just looking at the window in top of his cat tree.

That's a very good number, though! Has he had any more food or karo? Since he is now over 60, you can try giving him a little LC instead of carbs, to see if he'll start surfing it. You just don't want to overfeed him at this point, because you want him to want to eat if he does need the carbs later on.

Keep testing...great job!!

At what "+" number did you give food last?

And as scary as 62 may look, it is a beautiful green number and let's hope he surfs those green numbers for awhile :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

That 62 is wonderful! Since it's still early in the cycle, you'll need to keep testing often, but you're in a great range right now. :mrgreen:

He actually, had 2 more small meals:
around +3.25 2 small spoons of HC (20 % ) just the gravy
at + 3.50 1 spoon of mix HC and regular food (4 %)

That's fine. At this point, I would back off the higher carb foods and continue testing to see how he does. If he drops below 50 again, it's time to break out the HC and/or karo again, but as long as he's above 50, he's fine without the extra carbs.

That's exactly the reason you want to keep an eye on Bobby's numbers -- you won't know until you get there. His numbers may stay in the 50 - 60 range, they could drop, or he could start a bounce from being in the 30s. I've found that it always helps to remember that it's the kitties who are leading in this dance; we have to follow.

You've been doing a great job!

Get catch with that 38, and congrats on the reduction. I find with Max that when I start the karo/hc and stay on top of it he never goes under 40 a second time and then surfs a couple hours at least between 50-75. Playing and eating are good signs.

Hey, Bobby. You've had your excitement. Find a nice green number and hang out there for a while. Your bean could use a break!

When Polly and I first started this sugar dance, my vet asked me to test one of my civies. (I'm sure he was suspect of my meter and perhaps more suspect of my testing ability and wanted confirmation that Polly's odd numbers came from my incompetence not his dosing advice!) Boomer came in at 52. Gave me a lot more confidence that if Polly were to hang out in the 70s, I'd be cool with it. ('Course Polly decided to be a high dose cat and we celebrate anything mid blue at this house!)

Lots of vines that Bobby surfs well for you...and any bounce isn't too high and resolves quickly!

yes, it's always a good idea to remove the 911 when you feel comfortable and Bobby is surfing great numbers. That way should you need immediate advice again people watching will know it's a new 911 call. Good job today. The first few times are always unnerving.

great job!

for the next time, if there is one, you only want to give high carbs if his blood sugar is under 50.

when it's above 50, you can either give a couple of teaspoons of low carb to help him surf, or you can just wait and retest in a half hour to see if he holds above 50 on his own. your goal isn't to send him high with carbs, just to keep him over 50.

great job today. he needs a dose reduction tonight to 0.1u. There are pictures on the New to the Group sticky of what 0.1u looks like.
