Good morning LL!

OMG MUFFIN!! I'm so excited right now! dancing_cat After a bit of her FF dry food this morning, she was still hungry, so I put out Wellness Core dry with Fortiflora. She is really just trying to lick the Fortiflora off of it, but she's accidentally getting some food - and NOT spitting it out!! She actually ATE some of it!! Ok, sorry, I'm just  , :o and oh so :-D ! Ok she's done, and the rest is left just scattered around the desk, but I heard crunching! Going to try just offering her that throughout the day, no FF, and see what happens. I will just be ecstatic if I can get her to switch to this food. I know it's not canned, but it's an improvement, right?

Anyway, back to earth: I was a bit surprised to see the 69 this morning, but I double checked it, and got 70, even with a new blood drop, so it must be right. I'm assuming this is shed action, so I shot the .1u. Will check +.5 and +1 - may have to move Kibby's teeth check back a bit depending on what she gives me then.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Re: 8/30 Muffin +11.25 111 amps 69? FOOD NEWS!

:-D Celebrating along with you! Yay, Muffin for crunching new food. :-D Have you tried adding some to her FF feast and gradually upping the ratio of Wellness?

Re: 8/30 Muffin +11.25 111 amps 69? FOOD NEWS!

+.5 87 That's better.
Janice: She's notorious for not even eating her FF if it's too close to something she doesn't want. This last week I've been putting them side by side and covering both with Fortiflora, hoping she'll get the smells confused. And I know she was really only after the Fortiflora, so I'm going to try skipping the FF altogether, at least for a day or 2 (unless she doesn't eat enough of course) and hope that she "accidentally" is forced to eat more of the Wellness and see that it's not all that bad. She's really stubborn and if there's FF out, she'll just skip the Wellness and hold out for more FF typically. But around here, we go one day at a time, so I'll try that again in a few days. Thanks for celebrating with me!

Re: 8/30 Muffin amps 69 +1 86 FOOD NEWS!

Much better quality food for her...I will celebrate too! ya Muffin! (and an extra little yay in here too for Fortiflora!)

Re: 8/30 Muffin amps 69 +1 86 FOOD NEWS!

Thanks Pat!

One of the kids let Kibby out 15 mins before we had to leave for the vet...so appt rescheduled for 4pm. He usually comes back in in the afternoons. Grrr...so frustrating!

Wow. Nice numbers on that little drop of insulin.

Love the name of your kitty and whenever I see the name I get hungry, (as if I should talk; re: kitty names = food.)
And with your subject title today I thought maybe there would be muffins for everyone.

Deb thought my kitties names (J.D. and Ginger) = drinks

I'm glad you are getting somewhere with the food transition.
Very Nice numbers there Muffin!

Re: 8/30 Muffin amps 69 +1 86 FOOD NEWS!

 on licking off the fortiflora. Checks does that with chicken dust sometimes, and I find the wet food flattened.

Heehee, she sounds like a kid that won't eat her mashed 'tatoes, if the spinach is touching it. But she ate a little of teh Wellness Core, that's a start.
Congratulations on the sneakiness, Anne. :-D

oh yum, I'm glad I stopped in this condo when there were Muffins!

Anne, can you get a +10 or +11 today?

Re: 8/30 Muffin amps 69 +1 86 FOOD NEWS!

Dunkin Donuts, here we come...at least if we eat too much sugar, we are better equipped than a lot of folks to deal with the results!

Libby: +10 was 123 pmps 108. Sorry it took me so long to get it on here. Thanks for checking in on us.

So far Muffin hasn't eaten any more of the Wellness, just continues to lick off the Fortiflora. At +10 I gave her a small amt of FF dry with it (next to it, not mixed together) so she has gotten some actual food in her. I wonder....is there such a thing as too much Fortiflora? Can it be bad for her? She's gone thru almost a whole envelope of it today, which I know is the amt they are supposed to have for the probiotic aspect of it, but what if she doesn't need probiotics?

Don't know about the xs probiotic but would wonder if it could cause loose stool? You'll know when you check the box in the next day

Thanks for sending me to bed hungary..... I'll have dreams of muffins all nights now.....

I guess that's one way to find out, huh Joyce? I better go clean them all out now, so i'll know for sure! Sweet muffin dreams! sorry

Anne...

That 69 you shot this morning was a dose reduction earning number. The next dose is..... 0.00!!!

Do you want to give OTJ a try?

I would LOVE to give OTJ a try - if you think Muffin's ready. I worry that some of her highs are a little to high for that, but if you think she's ready, I'm GAME! Worst case scenario is she goes back on, right?

ETA: I was assuming the 69 was maybe due to shed still being overfull?

hi anne. sometimes, when you get down to these minuscule doses, inverted curves (higher numbers in the middle of the cycle) can be a sign of too much insulin. it's hard to believe such a tiny drop could be "too much", but it can be.
yes, worse case scenario is she goes back on insulin. if that happens it's not the end of the world. all it means is she'll need a bit of support for a little longer. no big deal. congrats! fingers crossed for an uneventful otj trial!

Thanks Jill, I've been wondering about that inverted curve she has going on - thought she was just a backward kitty! So I should start the letters that must not be named trial in the morning? flip_cat So exciting!

here's a copy of libby's otj trial instructions:

Here's what you do:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3-4 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then her pancreas is working! (some cats will come down in 2-3 hours, others take as long as 4).

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give her the support she needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
