8/30 Max - SubQ fluids refrigerated or not?

Hello all. I’m trying to clarify whether or not subQ fluids should be refrigerated once the bag is spiked? My vet says no. Also wanted to know how good a bag is good for once spiked? My vet says one month. As a nurse, of course we never used a bag anywhere near that long in the hospital. So I’m checking about cats! Max only gets a small amount every few days so it’s not getting used up.

Thank you. I had previously read that on Tanya’s site but it seemed to indicate that 10 days was preferable and to keep in the fridge if longer than that. My vet said something different and so have some others I asked on FB, so I was just trying to get other opinions. Thank you though, Tanya’s is a great resource.:)

Yes it is a great resource, I can't help you as I don't use.

Let me tag @Bron and Sheba (GA) she may have some info

It’s okay, thank you though for tagging. Maybe I will get some response later. From what I posted on FB, everyone agrees with my vet. So maybe I will do that.

My vet agrees with your vet. Last time I was in the ER with my mother, they had a little bag of fluids for her, it was much smaller than the usual bags. If I knew where to get them, would be ideal for our kitties needing just the occasional amount. Seems everyone here just sells the 1L ones.

Okay great, thanks! I’ve only been able to get the 1 liter as well.

I used to hang my bag of fluids in an empty cupboard when not in use on a coat hanger. I used the 1 litre bags.
As long as it isn't cloudy and your technique when attaching the needles/tubing to the bag is sterile, which I'm sure it is if you are a nurse, I agree a month would be fine.
