Very very unexpected.
Libre : 64.
Alpha : 90.
I remember reading the Libre can read lower and even higher than it should.
So I learned today.
Had the hypo kit ready.
He's mad at me for the poke. Took me 3 times.
I have more reading to do; more education to be had.
Definitely scary. 😰

Hi Lin, it certainly can be scary. But i’m so glad you were able to test Solomon to make sure that he was safe. Great job!

There is usually a discrepancy between the Libre and a pet meter, like the Alpha track or even a human meter.
Since I’ve been using a Libre for several years, I have a general idea when Ivy is in the LO range (under 65) is when I really need to test her. It’s great you checked Y 65, a much lower number for Solomon!!
I have had tests from her ear using my contour next human glucometer anywhere from in the 60s to over 100 (when the Libre read Lo).
There is a time lapse from the Libre, they say by 15 minutes, so that could be part of the discrepancy.
But it gives you an idea of what the range is that your cat is in.
At least you know if they are safe or not, and 90 is certainly a safe number on the alpha track.
And he earns a reduction of .25 unit if he drops under 90 (which meter are you using to determine if he earns a reduction or not?)

Are you giving him snacks in the first few hours of each cycle to keep him from dropping too quickly? That can help if you haven’t already tried that.

And it’s great that you have your hypo kit ready and on hand in case you need it!

You should add SLGS to your signature (I looked at your spreadsheet to find that’s what you are following). That way we don’t have to ask you!

Safe surfing, Solomon! 🌊😻

SLGS help - what's that ?
I put alarm ‼️ on the spreadsheet with both libre 3 and alpha readings.

He has spiked to hi since the event at 9:30.

Shot time: I always inject while he's eating.

I am looking for more wet foods to try as he won't eat FFpate or Tiki; he hasn't like any wet foods even before the diagnosis.

Hypo kit :
I had some FF GRAVY, blue diamond kibble, churro mixed with honey on hand.
I freaked out and gave it immediately.
Then I did the alpha check immediately after getting some food in him.

Next time alpha check BEFORE the hypo goodies. No wonder he is HI right now. 😬😬 Owner error.

I tried another alpha an hr later but got the big bite.

Reading variances.
Wow 60-100 is quite the variance.

Edit to add: I will use the alpha trac to test for reductions.

Scroll down in this link. SLGS is a dosing method (your spreadsheet says you are following it, that’s where I got that information)
It explains how to proceed and how long to hold doses and what to do if your preshot (AMPS or PMPS) is low, etc.

Sticky - Dosing Methods: Start Low, Go Slow (SLGS) & Tight Regulation (TR)

Have you read this before? It’s very helpful to review and read over and over again! 🥰

And it’s normal to reach for the gravies in the beginning when they dip lower. We’ve all done that!! Better to keep them safe and better high than too low! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Ok. I didn't see a prozinc included, so I didn't know if that very regimented protocol applied since Lantus works differently.

The ProZinc Dosing Methods Sticky Note at the top of the ProZinc forum talks about the two ProZinc methods. They are Start Low Go Slow (SLGS) and Modified ProZinc Method (MPM). The one Staci sent you is for Lantus and there are similarities, but there are significant differences.

Sticky - PROZINC DOSING METHODS

The above is the sticky not on this ProZinc forum. ProZinc users have SLGS and MPM to choose from -- similar, but different because we don't have a depot to deal with and we also give more consideration to the preshot tests than the Lantus/Glargine users do -- and some other differences in regard to how long we hold doses, etc.

Let me go to the prozinc channel and read that one. I know Lantus has very tight dosing windows and is a slow release into the system. I'll read the MPM. I was getting confused.

Question::

It says to change the time frame between shots.
1) What's that mean exactly. I thought prozinc was every 12 hrs.

2) The numbers shown are human numbers so would match the libre, but not the alpha trak which is animal numbers; is that right ? Should I use my human handheld blood meter instead of alpha? Will those numbers match the libre ?

Oh I’m sorry! Sorry to have sent the Lantus one!! Thank you Suzanne!! 💞💞💞

That's very blurry, but it looks like the part where it says that as your cat starts getting into the better numbers approaching 100 you lengthen the time between dose increases (not the time between shots -- those are always given 12 hours apart). What it is saying is that we may hold the dose for a longer period of days (more cycles) before making a decision on increasing the dose.

Got it.

The human handheld meter still will not match the Libre readings. The Libre is always going to give you lower numbers when you're in the lower greens.

Alright. This sheet says don't use an animal hand held reader, in which case I should switch... which would confuse me more... just when you think you're catching on. lol nope.

Target nadirs when following SLGS are between 90 and 150.
The only real modification to the protocol for the Alpha Trak meter is that we do not want Solomon going below 68 at any time on your AT meter. If he does, you would give HC. If you were using a handheld human meter, the number would be 50 instead of 68.
