Yesterday's post

So far today is going a bit better. I've been giving a little more than half a pill of the ondansetron, so around 3mg. First meal of the day was bad, but now he's back to eating acceptably by Xander's standard.

I messaged the vet today asking if we should increase his ondansetron to 4mg x2 a day rather than 2mg, since the ondansetron removal experiment went really badly indicating he does have ongoing nausea. I also asked her if she would suggest starting the gabapentin 30mg twice a day to see if it helps out, if pain is a factor. I feel so bad to just keep adding on drugs just to keep him eating well. He seemed more energetic ad playful without the ondansetron, but he needs to eat so I guess I have to make those trade offs.

In positive news: I booked a therapist session this Wednesday, only 9 days left of the semester, and our final capstone project is nearly finished.

I feel so bad to just keep adding on drugs just to keep him eating well.

I keep Karamelle on 4mg Ondansetron 2x a day and Buprenorphine 1x a day. Shes been on this for 2 years. I have tried to skip doses from time to time with not good results, so I dont try anymore.

Message from the vet:
"I would continue with just 2mg of ondansetron for his size. If we really feel like the ondansetron is contributing to the constipation, we will have to try the maropitant again. I know the vomiting is a concern for you with that but might need to try again. Go ahead and try the gabapentin and see what happens! Also let me know if you start the fluids and if that is helping!"

I'm not too sure what to do. It seems she's hesitant to increase the ondansetron because of his constipation issues, but it did seem to help when I gave him around 3mg the past 2 times. Also his script says to give 2-4mg starting with lower and increasing as needed which is contradictory. The guidelines I looked up seem to suggest 2mg is low for him, so im wondering if her hesitancy is because of constipation issues lately I mentioned.
Maybe I should try the gaba out, he did eat better the night after his vet visit where he had gaba and fluids
