Has anyone who has gone through DKA noticed watery eyes as an early symptom?
Temp is nauseous and feeling crappy and hiding a bit and his eye is practically drooling.
Cat dad noticed he was feeling off today while I was gone, so much so that he recorded video of Temp.
Just turning into a hypochondriac over here...

Just be alert. Is he eating? Is there any vomiting? Do you check for ketones using a blood meter? Are they high? Lethargy? Those things are key. My boy had weepy eyes at times but not necessarily at DKA time. He was just really sick. Vomiting all the time. When I took him to the ER his temperature was well over 105 as I recall. I hope Templeton will be okay. A weepy eye can be a lot of things. I would look at the whole picture.

Eating fine, puked after grass today which is per usual. Ketones checked only via urine. Nova on the way, ETA Tuesday. Very lethargic, but at the same time, his glucose has been high for a few days. Breath rate normal, breath smells normal.
I could locate a thermometer, bet he'd love that up his butt.

Eating and drinking fine and no ketones in the urine? Budge has one watery eye from time to time.
Higher numbers feel like crap once they start seeing longer spells of lower numbers.

So we've got a 150pt drop from PS to +2. What should I feed? I recall @Bandit's Mom saying 100 pt drop, feed a little MC perhaps? It's been so long I can't remember harhar.

All of the above ok. I'm slightly paranoid as well because of the nightmare abscess he had above his eye right before his DX. Two vets said it was nothing, couldn't see anything, and then overnight (weekend of course) it got huge and he had to have it expressed, Penrose drain, cone, etc.

My cat Sofi I kid you not purrs when we take him to the vet to get him checked out...

The first time my fiancé was shocked that he purred when the vet checked his temp LOL. He's such a weird cat.

No way. Hilarious. Maybe he's finding his happy place? lol.
We joke that Templeton likes getting ear stabs. He just sits afterward and doesn't leave. I don't even need to treat him.

Not helping with the hypochondria.
Can imagine! :( I'm not a hypochondriac but I think I'm becoming one as far as these brats are concerned!

Btw, Budge had a cat bite wound turn into an abscess and it was quite the nightmare for a month. A huge gaping hole which took it's time to mean/heal.

Oh man, we should trade gory photos. I was just looking at them again last night. Oh how far we've come.

I really thought I was going to lose him for a while there.

I do not take my cats temps at home. I let the vets be the bad guys.

Question: does Templeton have allergies? I noticed you said "grass" today, was he outside? (not that it matters on second thought if he was, Pearl has allergies and some days better than others and she is completely indoor. Most of the time doors or windows aren't even open). Swollen face and weepy eye tell me she isn't managing too well. We take Cyphroheptadine which does wonders for her (it's an antihistamine, if you think appetite stimulant that is a side effect of it).

Templeton didn't waste any time with the new dose, did he? And how nice of him to drop at night and boing back in the daytime :) Good work avoiding the decrease.

I've never noticed weeping eye with Minnie's DKAs - always off her food and when it's bad she has the smell of ketones round her head, though not all cats do and not all people can smell it! The ketone meter will definitely help your hypochondria, it's such a good early-warning system (though when I see the blood ketones go up just a little I do tend to worry prematurely! Then have to do a urine ketone test to remind myself it still shows up negative there). Hope you get some sleep in today while the bouncing is happening.

ETA - I just thought....Templeton was waiting till @Bandit's Mom was awake!! Minnie does the same thing. Bhooma is the guardian angel of all of us on the west coast :) along with @Bron and Sheba (GA)

I know Bhooma is definitely one I can count on for replies haha. West coast cat dad life.

Oh the allergens can make their way inside for sure!
No allergies that I know of. I'd be surprised. He used to be outside most of the day with me when we had a fenced yard. Now we live in a forest and the most he gets is a deck and cat grass I planted.
Luckily the weeping went away. I've noted it though, and if it becomes recurring, we may need to do something about it.
Thanks for the input :)

Ah yes, dropping at night, how kind of our kitties!
I for sure was sniffing his mouth yesterday. I startled him at one point :D
Thanks for the input and reminder to sniff my cat ;) Looks like all is good for now on the Templeton front.
But now that Bhooma is up, who knows, he could decide to play some tricks for her!
