I am having a terrible time here. Chispa's numbers have been awfully high over the last 2+ weeks, despite two increases, and I have no idea why. She did surprise me last night with a drop to 109, but today she is hot pink across the board. It may be the mother of all bounces, but lately it feels as if the insulin is having no effect at all.

To make matters worse, tonight when I was preparing her dose, I noticed that the calipers were set not to her (supposedly) current dose of 1.75, but to 1.25 instead. The jaws were firmly in place, not slipping, not able to be moved without loosening the screw. I can't believe that I would have set them incorrectly, much less taken EIGHT CYCLES to notice that I was shooting 1.25 instead of 1.75 -- it just doesn't seem possible -- yet there is no other explanation. I was going to increase tonight, but without being sure of what her current dose was, I decided to play it safe and go with 1.5. This may represent a setback, but better safe than sorry. Meanwhile, at PM +4, she is restless and meowing, as if she feels yucky, and I don't know what to do for her.

I'm going back to TR. Having her on SLGS at the vet's recommendation (or practically insistence) was a nice break for me from constant testing and worrying, but it hasn't served Chispa well. I've tried to be patient and trust the process, but she is drinking three times as much as she did on TR and peeing up a storm, which can't be good for her kidneys. I've been transitioning her to a lower-carb, lower-phosphorous food, and I pray we can work our way back to the blue-green range.

In the good news department, the chlorambucil seems to be kicking in. She is due for a dose tomorrow, and I guess I will go ahead with it, though I hate to make her feel worse than she does now.

It also doesn't help that I'll be going out of town overnight on Saturday. I have a great vet tech who comes to give her shots, but I know my absence upsets her, and that won't help her numbers either.

I had thought this was going to be a question, but I guess I am just venting; there's really not much to do but wait and see how this 1.5 increase?/decrease? pans out.

Sending love and encouragement to all cats and their peeps -- I hope everyone's week is going more smoothly than ours!

You gotta love (not!) those “Twilight Zone” moments. I think they happen to all of us.
Hopefully you’ll be able to sort out the dosing quickly.

Has she vomited again since yesterday? Cats sometimes eat/vomit grass when they’re nauseous or have an upset stomach. Do you have anti-nausea meds, such as ondansetron?

As for TR, it does seem that many vets are uncomfortable with it. I understand that sentiment, though, because in the wrong hands, it could be deadly. I think many of us here are the exception, not the norm, as to our pets and the willingness to be vigilant and micromanage.

Hope Chispa feels better soon.

Awwww Karen I’m sorry to hear of the setback for Chispa. But it sounds like you may have figured it out with a calipers issue.
Wishing you and Chispa a gentle slide back to better numbers where she feels better.
Sending you hugs and support :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good morning, @JL and Chip, and thank you for your kind note. I guess we all have our moments ... thank you for making me feel slightly less crazy.

I do have ondansetron on hand, but luckily the vomiting seems to have been an isolated incident. The other good news is that she started the morning at 251. You know you are living in an altered universe when 251 seems like "a nice, low number," but compared to lately? I'll take it!

Wishing you a wonderful day :bighug::cat::bighug:

Good morning, @Staci & Ivy, and thanks so much for your good wishes. My little fighter pilot is already coasting in for a landing, it seems ...fingers crossed for a better day today.

Looks like Ivy is doing some aeronautical tricks of her own this morning and keeping you on your toes in mission control. That's one way to get snacks, but yikes -- give your mama a break, little one!!!

Wishing you smooth sailing and a happy day :bighug::cat::bighug:

Aww, sending you much love and many hugs. :bighug::bighug: We are all so stressed, and hard on ourselves for easily made mistakes- be kind to yourself. You have figured out what to do, and Chispa is lucky to have such a great mom. Hang in there....

Hi Karen! I'm sorry to read about all that, it's so frustrating!
I hope the calliper is the explanation. It happened to me once, I guessed I might have knocked it and it moved? But same thing, the screw was tight, impossible to move, and still not where I set it. Now I check (I am a litle bit crazy. I check the number, the callipers, and then compare to my paper gauge one more time ).
Many :bighug:
