yesterday's condo

Good morning LL!

Hope everyone is doing great on this lovely Wednesday!! Has anyone used the Up&Up meter from Target? I found the strips to be 1/2 the price of the Relion meter and I could really save some money right about now. I used it yesterday and got a 263, but my Relion read 308. I think someone said on the board it rated pretty high on consumer reports.

Bob is hanging in there. He seems to feeling better since his numbers are staying level (even though they are high). I put out his dry last night and he ate like a good boy, then I put out the wellness turkey and he sniffed and walked away. I almost put a little "for sale" sign around his neck and put him outside on the sidewalk, but I refrained. ohmygod_smile He did end up going over later and eating a good bit of it.

Penelope and Hector are good too - poor little babies, so worried and focused on Bob that half the time, I just don't think much about them. Penelope pretty much hides all day long and Hector just chills somewhere in a corner. I need to make more of an effort to pay attention to them.

I hope everyone has a great day!!! Thoughts and prayers for all you need them!

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Hi guys .. Sorry, I have no experience with the target meter .. we always used the relion micro from wal mart .. I'm glad to hear bob is feeling better now that his numbers are more steady .. and yes, I remember focusing more on mocha then on twix in the beginning, it's hard not too after such a diagnosis ... have a great day guys!

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Hey, sorry I haven't been around. Data validation testing for a new work system, so I'm working crazy hours.

I just wanted to ask if Nikki and Dee could share the for sale sign? Last night I got home at 8:30 and they had pulled a bunch of ferns out of a flower arrangement (which had been sitting there for a week unmolested  ) and when I went to pick up the mess the leaves were all wet. I then realized that someone had thrown water up all over the leaves that I had just picked up with my bare hands. angry(2)_cat After which I found various puddles until I found the furball one of them had been trying to get rid of. ohmygod_smile I wanted to put them both out on the street.

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Sure Alexis - let's find a nice big box to put all three in. I'm sure someone will want them - they are all so cute!

Yeah, I learned long ago I can't have plants or flowers, leave any sort of liquid in a glass on the coffee table, leave my plate with food on it ANYWHERE unguarded, have toilet paper on the roll (it has to sit on the back of the toilet), or leave out cotton or ribbon of any kind. I have psycho cats and it sounds like you do too. I wonder if one of them was munching on the plant to help get rid of the hairball. Sounds like a good plan actually. :?

Isn't it nice working crazy hours and not worrying about Nikki's numbers??? I hope I know that feeling one day....

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Hi Dara,
That Bob, he's just teasing you now with the food   But glad he's still trying it :thumbup
I'm interested in that meter if it reads ok and costs less than Relion. It does get expensive
I know what ya mean about the other kitties not getting much attention  luckily Momma and Sissy don't really care. Their very independent, unlike Hoot.
He reminds me of a teenager that is home for summer break and bored :YMSIGH:  :YMSIGH: "Mom, I'm bored, can you entertain me?"
Have a great day!

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Yeah I'm super thankful I don't have to worry about Nikki's shots. This would be trouble otherwise. :?

I think Bob might be cuter than my two! It's just weird that they ignored the flowers for a whole week and then suddenly attacked! I might have to get them some cat grass. I guess it's good I don't have carpets.

You'll get Bob there! I'm glad he's feeling better....

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Unfortunately, I don't shop at Target, and have recently purchased the Relion Prime meter from Walmart. The strips for those are $9.00/box of 50. I hope that someone will come by and help you with your question very soon. :-D

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

I would get a couple of spot checks with both meters. Right now, there's a 20% difference between them which is what the variance between them would account for. You can always compare it with the vet's numbers the next time Bob goes in for a check up (or bring it with you if you go to the doctor and compare it with you MD's results).

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Hi Dara,
I'm glad Bob is feeling better and eating better.
It's good he still tries wet. Maybe someday he may decide he actually likes it.

I know what you mean about the other cat.
When my friend visited, Ginger was overly affectionate to him which is unusual, and he mentioned "Is she getting enough attention?" ohmygod_smile
I now have a short but designated time that I spend only with Ginger, cuddling or playing, her choice.
Even a few minutes a day seems to satisfy her.

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

I have an account on Consumer Reports so I printed this meter comparison as of today. The Up&Up scored exactly the same as the relion but the strips show as costing more which is not true in my area. I bought 100 strips for $35.99 for the up&up, which is exactly what I pay at Wal-Mart for 50 of the Relion Micro strips (they are always sold out of the box of 100). Anyway, hope this helps anyone shopping around!!

Re: 8/28 Bob AMPS=363 New meter??

Hi Dara

I know that some people (can't remember who) have the up and up in their sig tag, so you should hear from them soon. Glad to hear that Bob seems to be feeling better :-D

I had a problem with one of my civvies feeling neglected when Cleo first started on insulin. I was so wrapped up in her, I didn't realize how much I was neglecting (and even chasing away) Simon. After I began brushing and playing with him more, "normalcy" returned. My other civvie Opie, could care less. He pushes himself on you for attention if he needs it

I wish Cleo would eat Wellness, none of my guys like it :(

Dara, If you order the Relion confirm/micro strips from Walmart.com, they are $35.88 for 100. I think you have to spend $40 or $50 for free shipping, but I always can find something to add to my order :-D I usually receive my shipment in 2 days. Are you paying that much in the store?

well, I'll be danged! For some reason, I thought I was spending 35.99 for 50, but maybe I was just dreaming. I looked it up online and it's the same price as the up&up. Oh dear - I must need a nap....

Dara, if you are using the Relion Confirm/Mini, you can also use the Arkray GlucoCard01 test strips in that meter. If you buy from ADW using the shopping links on this site, then FDMB gets a bit donated to them, and the buy 4 get 5 deal makes the strips a good buy. I usually buy 500 at once, then I get free shipping too.

Good to hear Bob is eating some of his wet.

Hi Dara,

I think Ann & Tess use the Target UP&UP meter & like it, you might want to PM Ann? I also think she buys her test strips on EBAY.

I have the relion confirm & do what Wendy does - buy in bulk from ADW - you never have to worry about a low green @ 2AM with only 2 test strips  OR - I buy in ebay if I can find a killer deal.

We haven't had plants in the house for eons - our Simon even eats orchids! ohmygod_smile And he's epileptic & autistic, so I try to get anything suspicious out of his path.

Keep trying &Good luck with the Wellness - ours all love it, but they're feral & will eat just about anything - except Simon who is hungry all the time & doesn't like anything (except orchids)!

wow - thanks for all the tips! I really like the Target meter, but the few times I've compared it, it's lower than mine. I wouldn't mind seeing his BG lower, as long as it's accurate. I'm happy to see I can get this stuff cheaper on ebay or ADW. I didn't even realize those links to the shopping sites were up there!!! I shop on-line all the time on Amazon. Does the site get $$ if I'm buying anything on Amazon or at Walmart?

As long as you start your shopping by using the links on the top of the page, FDMB benefits. So shop away! Some people even share the links with friends and family. :-D

I'm glad Bob is feeling better now that his numbers are flatter. Hopefully he'll come down to some lower, flatter numbers soon.

Good luck with the meter comparison. I use the Relion Confirm, but I tried the Relion Prime once and about drove myself crazy comparing the two meter numbers.

I used the Arkray Vital (which is the same as one of the Relions, but I can't remember which), and order strips from ADW...250 strips for $45.99. We were going way broke, first on the One Touch Ultra Mini, then on the Relion something-or-other (it's in my signature - I think!). I'm very happy with the Vital.

My cats are crazy, too...it's taken us years to get one step ahead of their antics...but I think they're still winning!

Have a great night, Dara!
