8/25 condo

Hi Everyone,

Never did get a chance to open a condo for Rusty yesterday. We got home around noon and spent the rest of the day doing laundry, shopping, etc. etc. Rusty had a good trip and is getting better every day. He still has congestion, of course (he has chronic congestion), but nothing like it was a week ago. Today is Day 11 of Convenia. We'll check in with the vet this week when he goes for his monthly B-12 shot.

We are having really cold weather. Saranac Lake had the lowest temperature in the US this morning: 32 degrees! ( they measure the temperature at the little airport in Lake Clear; at our house it was only 41 this morning).

We had a short walk on the trails at the VIC this afternoon and then went to see the current art show there: several of our friends have paintings in the show. One won an honorable mention (this was a juried show). The art community is very strong up here and there are many wonderful artists who live and work here.

I called my brother, who lives in Houston, this afternoon. He is in a senior residence and said that all was OK there, so far. They have had about 20 inches of rain in his part of Houston, but are expecting more. The hurricane is just sitting there. Global Warming strikes again.

We are thinking of all of our FDMB members who live in the Houston area and praying that they are safe.

This is a special weekend in the history of jazz: the jazz greats Lester Young (tenor sax) and Charlie Parker (alto sax) have back-t0- back birthdays. WKCR is celebrating with 3 days of their music. Today and part of tomorrow is the great Lester Young ("Prez"), tomorrow evening and all day Tuesday, the great Charlie Parker ("Bird"). Although we no longer live in NY City, we can listen on the Internet. http://www.wkcr.org
Tomorrow afternoon will be really special: 5 hours of the early recordings of Lester Young from the 1930s and 40s--the original 78 rpm records. Phil Schaapp, the jazz guru, is bringing (lugging) his collection of 78s to the studio. He firmly believes that the best sound source for this music is the original--no LP or CD transfers.

Going downstairs now to listen to Lester Young and hold Rusty's dinner bowl. He still seems to like RAWZ chicken. I bought some more cans yesterday.

Good Morning Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee:

YAY! Rusty is feeling better. That is GREAT news. I like those BG's too Rusty. You are the King of the greens, Lagoon meister was on duty. Keep up the good work. :D:cool:

WOW, 32??? Winter is on its way? Hope not... we are still rainless (go figure) and temps are in the mid 70's. I think this whole summer we have had only a couple of rain days. crazy!

Your VIC walk sounds nice, and to top it off with an art show? COOL! Very nice on the jazz too. It is so nice that the internet is broadcasting the shows. Kudos to WKCR.

I hope all is well with you an Edward. We keep on truckin' here. My son's wedding in Hawaii was great. 6 days of fun, and a sunset wedding to boot. The resort there did an outstanding job, the ceremony was flawless. We rented a house while we were there, that was such a good decision. 3 families in it, plenty of room, our own pool, and it was cheaper than the resort. Awesome too in that it was 10 minutes tops from the wedding venue, which was on the beach alcove they have there.:cool::cool::cool: The rest of the time we spent on the beaches (Nicholas and William learned to boogie board!), the volcanoes (COOL!) which are still active and lava producing, and a few historical places, like the City of refuge. That was great, alot of Hawaiian history is there. Such a great time. On the home front, DH continues to hang in there, and is doing OK. Oncology recheck is today, and we expect continues good news. Kitties are doing great, did very well with the pet sitter we had while we were gone. All three of them liked her, and she was a vet tech to boot. Win-win situation. Nicholas and William are getting ready to return to school next week. Where did the summer go??? Nicholas enters first grade, William is now Pre-K. wow, they grow up so fast! We've had a great summer. Lots of beach and river and mountain lake visits, day trips to a local beach, swimming as much as we could. That too has flown by so fast. I am so not ready for summer to be over.;)

Have an excellent week! I hope Rusty continues to improve! Sounds like he is. Keep on truckin' Rusty! Think green!

Hi Michelle,
What a fantastic time you all had at your son's wedding in Hawaii. It is wonderful that the whole family was able to make the trip. Sounds like a grand adventure for the boys, especially.
So summer vacation is coming to a close and the boys are heading back to school. Nicholas is in 1st grade already! And William starting pre-school! Time does fly. Are they both still taking swim classes? I hope you'll be able to fit lots of hikes and fun time into their new schedules. And of course you'll be able to do your own hikes. Are the fires bad in Washington? Every day we hear about Oregon, but not WA.
Please tell Vanessa that we look forward to her :coffee: every day. I'm glad that the kitties were fine during your week in Hawaii. They have their catio to keep them happy and busy, but I'm sure they love having you home.
Glad to hear that DH is doing well. I hope his check-up will be fine.
Enjoy the cooler weather. I think Seattle may have set heat records this summer.

Hugs and scritches,

Hugs and scritches,
It was wonderful! First time to Hawaii, and I would go back. Wedding was flawless. I agree too: time has flown... yes, they are still swimming, and love it as much as they did when we first started. Nicholas has also started soccer, and likes that too, so he now has, so far, an additional sport to try. Summer sure has flown by, but we did manage to fit in all of their favorite places. I am grateful for that, their summer has been great. I have heard too that we have made the news without not so normal weather this summer. Very warm for us, and a lack of rain for all of it. A couple of days and that is it. New records for so many things. The wildfires, the bigger ones,a re in OR and Canada, but we too have had our share, just not as bad as in previous years. Eastern WA has one burning now that at times affects the air quality here at home. We are off today for our "last beach day" of the summer. I shall miss this, but know too we will be back when scheduling allows, and next summer for sure. DH oncology recheck came back clean. YAY! He remains cancer free. I hope all is well with you, and Rusty. I think of you guys daily, even if I can't get on the Board. Take care, and happy September!
Auntie Ella! Ethiopian today! I will bring LOTS! ~~Vanessa, kitteh barista
