Good Morning LL!

Everything is excellent in LeoLand, I had a crabby kitty last night. I think he was mad I left him home alone for 12 hours (I came back for his shot and supper) and I cant even tell you how guilty I felt doing that  I got snubbed for a few minutes then all was forgiven.

We had a good test, shoot and feed this morning, breffis is just being finished up, I'm predicting nap time will be next.

Leo is going back to his grandparents tonight, im flying into work tomorrow morning for a few days to write 2 exams.........after which I will be a certified industrial firefighter!!!! Ive already passed 4 exams and the practical exams, so today.......study time!

Re: 8/27 Leo AMPS 103

I bet Leo likes study time -- his bean is at home! Good luck with the exam.

Great start for Leo today. I'm thinking that if Leo's numbers stay where they are, the next time you're home for a few days, it may be worth fattening his dose to see if you can get the overall level to come down.

Re: 8/27 Leo AMPS 103, +3.5 77 (61) Q for Sienne

Sienne,

I kinda figured I haven't been getting 'Leo' numbers recently, just last week I got 200 aviva accuchek strips from eBay, we had been using one touch ultra mini for the last 2 months. So the last few days I've been checking Leo with both meters and been getting 'Leo' numbers with the one touch and much higher with the aviva. What do I do? Plus he's been extremely fussy lately and been eating 8% as opposed to his usual 3,4%. I don't know what to do. Oh yeah the one touch number we got was 61 just now.

Good for Leo & Good for you!! Here's hoping you do well on your tests & that all stay great in LeoLand. We're rooting for you both!

Re: 8/27 Leo AMPS 103, +3.5 77 (61) Q for Sienne

From a pragmatic perspective, I'd rather had a meter that runs low than high. If your meter runs high, you won't know if your cat is really in low numbers and the meter is giving you what amounts to a false sense of security.

These are ratings from Consumer Reports. The Aviva didn't come out as particularly accurate or consistent. However, this is not a new review.

What you could do is the next time you have a vet visit, bring your meters. Compare your different meters to the vet's. (Just remember that if the vet uses an AlphaTrack or serum chemistry analyzer, the readings will be 30 points higher than yours.)

Very nice numbers for Leo, Tracy. I use a OT ultra mini and love it....yes, the strips are expensive (I buy mine on ebay in bulk) but I like the reliabiity of it. I have two and if Gracie gets a wacky number, I double check it and the backup OT is always within just a few mg/dl of the primary.

Good luck on your exams and congrats!!!! Have a safe trip back to work.

Re: 8/27 Leo AMPS 103, +3.5 77 (61), +5 81

Well looks like i'll be switching back to the OT ultra mini, i just did some research on both meters and it looks like the OT is the more reliable, accurate meter. For price, strips are pretty much the same for both meters, the only thing i didn't like about the OT is the amount of blood you need, the accuchek needs a much smaller sample. I guess i'll be purchasing OT strips on eBay!

Thanks Sienne and Marje.

Hi Tracy, wow it is a good cycle today, and even without the fattened dose. And wow, good luck with your exams and ultimately being a certified industrial firefighter. That's an exciting career. Leo will be in good hands with his grandparents.

Re: 8/27 Leo AMPS 103, +3.5 77 (61), +5 81, PMPS 95

Woohoo!!! I guess i don't leave for work until tomorrow afternoon so i get one more night with my Leo!! Of course grandpa was upset that he wasn't going to be getting Leo until tomorrow.......but tough luck grandpa!

So i guess from here on out we'll be using the OT ultra mini for our BG readings, and the accuchek as a back up.

I shoulda told everyone that i'm on the volunteer emergency response team up at work (we're firefighters, and medical first responders) but still work in the environment field, its kinda like having 2 careers in 1 and always stays interesting!

Nice numbers for Leo today! I use the OT, too...I haven't tried any other meters because I'm very comfortable with the OT.

Good luck with your exams. Talk about an exciting line of work!!
