Garland is recovering from DKA/FHL, etube feedings

We had a good day YESTERDAY Her numbers looked the best I have ever seen and she never threw up! Yay!

Shes really getting annoyed with her neck wrappings. She keeps scratching at it, and even with the overwrap layer shes still getting her nails under it to pull out the cotton gauze. (Ive even tried putting a cut off sock over it)

I put out some food last night for in case she was hungry while I slept, she would have an option to eat. And she ate about 2/3 of it (I put out 1-2 oz) So thats great news!

Shes still a bit wobbly when she walks, but I think this is more because she hasnt used those muscles in almost a month.

Happy Sunday!-->>> EDIT- Lets make that a Happy SATURDAY ohmygod_smile ~O)

Wow Violet - this is really such good news.

I'm sure one day soon you're going to have a minute to think back and reflect on these past weeks - you both have been through so much and you have been really, truly amazing with all that you've been dealt. I am sincerely over joyed for you and Garland; and here's to many, many more good days! :-D

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130

Great numbers and great news!!

With this low pre-shot, get a +1 and a +2. I'm a big fan of staying on top of the numbers especially with a sick kitty. As a cat gets healthier, there's less stress on the system and BG numbers start to come down. (Infection and illness will raise BG numbers.) I think you've got enough on your hands that it's better to not have to deal with any more surprises!

hahahaha too funny on the saturday/sunday! when my kids were little it was so hard to keep the days straight. you need a work week or a school week to stay on track - without either one day is just like another.

great to see garland in the 100's. wow - what an improvement since a week ago! hugs to you and scritches to garland!

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 +1 150 +2 172

That's great news about her eating, and what a nice set of numbers, today :-D

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 +1 150 +2 172 +189

What fabulous numbers and she is so nice and flat blue!!! Also such a great well cat report that she is still eating on her own and annoyed by her tube.

Violet...what wonders you have done for your darling girl. Is she getting that spark back in her eyes?

What a beautiful blue day!

BK had a lump removed in Oct.2008. It was on the back of his neck, just below the collar. To protect the incision, I quickly made him a little pullover shirt, from an old pair of leggings. They were a cotton/spandex blend so the fabric had some stretch. I just cut about a 10" section of one of the legs, starting at a place where the circumference looked like it would be a good fit at BKs neck. Then I eye-balled where I thought the "arm holes" should go and cut 2 holes. Then I slipped it over him and it worked like a charm. He did work on "customizing" the armholes toward the center of his chest, but the shirt held up and kept the incision safe.

What a wonderful turn around for Garland! I know others have used baby sized t shirts to cover bandages, etc.

Garland is looking fabulous - and so exciting that she's eating more on her own. You go, girl!!!

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 +2 172 +5 189 PMPS 107

Garland seems to be feeling okay today. She was snoozing on her back like she used to. Even played/swatted at a string I dangled in front of her. Im a little shocked at these numbers recently. I guess that goes to show she needed a dose increase months and months ago. Im sooo glad I have you experts here to help me!

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 +2 172 +5 189 PMPS 107

You just shot your lowest PS ever. Please get a +1 and +2 .
Please have your pre-filled HC gravy syringe at the ready and be vigilant monitoring this cycle
(Irene is coming up alongside Baltimore right now and I may lose power)
see you (hopefully) at +1

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 PMPS 107

So, So lovely to see how well Garland is doing. Makes me smile from ear to ear.

Violet, you must be thrilled! What a great job you are doing!

Okay :)

Im still having such a hard time with her wrapping.. I changed it again, and noticed she has a small (nickle size) raw, dry, icky spot. Even missing hair there. Not sure if its like that because the tube/wrap was rubbing her, so she scratched it, or her just scratching in general caused it.. or maybe she didnt scratch it at all and the wrapping, tube, is just rubbing it. I tried to reposition it to not touch that area, but its impossible... Its right at the top of her neck, base of her head

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 PMPS 107 +1 106

I'd call your vet about the spot. I wouldn't want to advise you to do anything other than keep it clean until you speak with your vet. BTW, maybe you need to clip Garland's claws to prevent some of the damage from the scratching.

BTW, some folks have used a baby t-shirt vs. cutting up a piece of clothing to protect an area on their cat. Maybe one of your kids shirts would work.

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 PMPS 107 +1 106 +2 98

+2.5 126

How can it go up that much in 30 minutes? Food spike? I finished feeding her about 930 or so...(its 1030 now)

Re: 8/27 Garland AMPS 130 PMPS 107 +1 106 +2 98

Yes, food spike. Please test again in 1 hour.
The lights are flickering here...
Remember-
low numbers can be managed as long as you're testing frequently and are prepared.
in the event of low numbers, this is what you'll want to do (besides post for help):
1. rub karo on gums (do NOT put karo through tube)
2. put hc gravy through the tube
3. if the number is rising at this point, follow-up with a partial feeding of whatever you've been giving garland. if the number has not risen... lather, rinse, and repeat.

Her +6 was 84. Im not sure what the exact "low" number that I should be on the look for... how low before I need to do the karo/gravy stuff? No one has ever given me a specific range.. I know 84 is okay, but its after that i dont know... its 2am, i have to catch some sleep. I havent heard from anyone in a while. But Ill set an alarm for 2 hours? or should I do 1? for another test?

84 is a great number, congratulations on the green.

This is a very slow drop and form the SS nadir is about +8 to +10? You don't nee to worry un less you see a sharp drop or she gets down into the 50s. A little more LC should keep her up, but if you are worried and need sleep you could give some MC or HC to get the numbers up.

Deleted my long post as I see that someone with some real experience has answered you. Good luck and hopefully Garland will not surprise you and go any lower tonight.
