Re: 8/26 Reuben AMPS HI
Sorry guys, we were busy with the morning shoot and then taking forever to write this post

...
Yes, my concern is exactly as Jane describes. Here we are back up over 500 after day 2 at 2.0 - that possibly didn`t even get down into the 300's. Is this a normal bounce under the circumstances, silly question I know.
Reuben is eating well, but suffering from nausea and vomiting - I am trying to get Cerenia and it should be here tomorrow. He does respond well to Metoclopramide, which I have but am hesitant to use while we wait for the Cerenia for two reasons: I found a contra indication for using metoclopramide and buprenorphina together: This is from the 'Drug Checker' site---
http://www.drugs.com/
Interactions between your selected drugs
metoclopramide ↔ buprenorphine
Applies to: metoclopramide, buprenorphine
MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.
MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

Also, the form of metoclopramide that Reuben responds to is the liquid, which, although the vet assures me is Not in a sugar syrup, sure tastes sweet to me.
Reuben`s energy is very low. He sits or lies down, sleeps or not, depending in part on the level of bupe in his system. He is agile and capable of completely normal cat-like behavior - which for me points to nausea rather than weakness. For example - the litter box is a very large box with tall sides, and he jumps out of it in one leap like a kitten and then runs back to his spot on the couch - as though nothing at all were wrong with him.
There is little if any neuropathy at all.
I feel that it is important to make clear that the level of veterinary skill where I am is drastically lower that what I am hearing from all your experience. Reuben is as sick as he is as a result of veterinary malpractice and ineptitude from the beginning of our troubles. And the very Best vet that I found (who diagnosed pancreatitis, diabetes and detected the massive intestinal infection last December), and saved Reuben's life, used glipizide instead of insulin and prescribed NOTHING for pancreatitis, and he was the best one in an area spanning 5 states. I live in a completely different part of the country now, and things are even less up to date here. The vet I am working with has very little knowledge of either pancreatitis or diabetes, but is willing to prescribe for me based on the research I present to him.
I feel like I am missing something I should be doing right now, and need your perspective and knowledge.
thank you!
