I finally got the lab results for Paris from May 19th
I have put them in my spreadsheet and I have also included a link in my signature that you can copy and paste that gives all the notes. I couldn't figure out how to make it a hyperlink. From what I am reading there is nothing wrong with her kidney's at all!! I know her liver numbers are high not sure exactly what that means maybe you could help me understand those. I also updated my signature line. We have not done a urinalysis as of yet. Best I can tell they should have diagnosed her with diabetes in May not July. She acts completely normal other than she pees a lot! I have to do the box 2x a day she pees so much and drinks a lot too. any help reading these would be great. Also at the time of bloodwork all cats were free feeding so she did not fast for 12 hours before blood work was done

thanks

I'll take a look. I would want a urinalysis. The heavy peeing is likely diabetes but the high neuts could be infection or stress. The high ALT is high enough to be concerning. Twice the high is okay. If not eating enough it might be due to the beginning of fatty liver but I'm not sure. The SDMA as well as creatinine are good. So something is going on with the liver. I'm going to tag Marje. My expertise is with kidney, pancreatitis , and to some degree lymphoma.

@Marje and Gracie would you take a look at these labs please?

ok thanks, any info would be great. I am wondering if I could drop off a urine sample with out having to pay the $60 for a vet visit! I will wait until I hear more feedback. After the bloodwork and prior to starting insulin she was eating a lot, more than she had ever eating which was also the beginning introduction to wet food. The vet seemed to really have no hope for her and told me when her time was near the end she would quit eating and start throwing up all the time.

You shouldn't have to pay an office visit charge just to have a UA done, but it is important that the urine be a "first morning" urine and that if you can't take it straight into the vet that you keep it in the refrigerator

You (of course) will have to pay for the UA

Well, I think you need a new vet. On what is he basing this ? What is the diagnosis and treatment plan? The rest of the labs look good. Is there an internal medicine vet you could see for a diagnosis? Paris is not that old for a vet to just give up on. :bighug:

The problem with a free catch is there could be bacteria present yet no infection. To check for infection it doesn't need to be first pee in the morning. That would only possibly matter to get USG and Paris doesn't have kidney disease so that wouldn't concern me.

We left town for the weekend the night the blood was drawn. I got a call in Saturday telling me her liver was in failure and the kidneys weren't good. There wasn't much they could do except try a special food for the liver. We were so upset we packed our stuff to come home to be with her. They did recommend Sam-e a supplement. She would not eat the liver food but does take the supplement pill. They did say the liver could bounce back but her blood results were all over the board. The next vet appointment they were going to do another blood draw and I told them why bother if there is nothing you can do to fix her. I suggested we just check the glucose levels which is when they decided she should go in insulin. The only reason we use this vet for Paris is so she doesn't have to be stressed out by leaving the house. They have never checked her weight or blood pressure or suggested a urinalysis. There is a really good vet in the next town about 8 miles away. I guess I will buy the cat in a bag and see if that makes the car ride less stressful. I don't think the vet that comes to the house is very knowledgeable with cats. They were hesitant to switch me to Lantus because of the cost. At this point cost doesn't matter I will go broke if that is what I have to do to keep her alive. Thankfully I was able to get my first Lantus pen from my step dad. Still cost $50 to overnight it to me on ice packs from Florida.

If you are interested in herbal product
Milk Thistle is good for liver problems. I had some strange liver enzymes because of one of my meds. After a month taking Milk Thistle, I had no more problems. I have no idea what kitty dosage is, it is worth a try. I find herbs have fewer side effects then taking drugs.
