Good morning and happy hump day.
Its been a couple of weeks since I posted last. I had to step back a bit and regroup after Curry was dx in an attempt to obsess less about Curry's diabetes. Posting just made me think and worry about it more. I'm able to breathe a little easier about our new journey and I'm learning how to be a little more comfortable w/shooting lower numbers......still will have a bit of a time when I know I have to go to work. So far my co-worker and supervisor have been tolerant of my weird work schedule and my need to update them about Curry. They "should" be tolerant as they are social work counselors as well.
I've taken one big project off my plate at work until the Spring which I was really stressing over. And I will be moving in a month to a new apartment and wonder how Curry will do w/the changes at that time. I guess its silly to worry now about something in the future. It will work itself out.
So Curry seems to be adjusting to the insulin. We started at 1 unit and went to .75 for a short time. Now we are shooting .5 lantus and her numbers are slowly trending down after one month. She tends to drop early in the cycle....usual nadir is +3. I've learned to take a reading at +1 to see if she decides to scuba dive.....I usually have pretty good indication at that time. So I try to front load her food to help slow down any sudden drops. We are off the kibble completely but I do need to sprinkle the bonita flakes and chicken dust on her food at pre-shot time to get her to eat her 1st breakfast. When her numbers begin to drop over the first hour, she will tend to eat more w/o the flakes or dust. All P's seem to be in place.
