Yesterday's condo

Good morning/afternoon Lantus Land!

Decided to do a mini-curve today and see where we're at. Haven't had a green number for 8 cycles, but getting some OK numbers so for now, just keeping those patience pants on (although they could use a good washing!!...LOL)

Mom's still not doing well...hasn't been able to eat anything since she's been in the hospital due to nausea and they're giving her the Zophran every 4 hours even if she doesn't complain. The nurse said it's unusual to give it like that (it's usually every 6hrs PRN) but they're concerned that since she's a diet controlled diabetic, not eating anything is going to cause even more problems than we already have.

Her blood pressure is skyrocketing overnight, and coming down some in the day despite her being on some pretty powerful drugs to bring it down, and they just don't know why. The neurologist is going to look at her regular medication list again and see if there's something he might have missed before (I think this is called grasping at straws so it looks like he's doing something). I know he's as frustrated as we are though.

I've gotten some good suggestions and questions to ask, so if I can catch him, I'm going to press him on them. I know in medicine, the general rule is "if you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras", but I think it's time we start looking for those zebras

I am so sorry your mom is still not doing well........you are such a great caregiver to EVERYONE!!

I am wishing a speedy recovery for her....and the mystery revealed!!?????

I am wondering if China will see :mrgreen: today???? She is close..........

Thanks for the visits today...and the wine...tonight I really need it!!

Called the hospital about 4:30 (Mom was doing well when I left about 1) to see how she was, and she was in tears and begged me to come back over...so China had to wait. (her usual times are 6/6 but didn't get home to test/shoot until 8:30 so will have to go back 30 min/day to get back on schedule...but she had a pretty nice day!!)

My mom knows how seriously I take my kitty caretaker duties, so for her to ask me to come is really unusual, but then again, she's not making much sense tonight. I'm not at all sure she even understood that I'd been there earlier, or the time of day since she kept asking if I wanted some lunch, although with her nausea, she hasn't been eating either. She had a massive headache, and was extremely nauseous when I got there but the nurse had just given her something for both, plus a little valium to calm her. Her BP wasn't sky high, but it was a bit elevated...it's been going high at night though.

The whole time I was there, she was just "off"..I'd ask her a simple question and get a blank stare like she didn't hear me. 10-15 minutes later, while we were talking about something else, she'd answer it. Before I left, she was looking much better, and definitely more comfortable, and agreed to try to eat something. They got her some pears, jello and toast and I opened the jello and pears and put the spoon next to them. She picked up the pears and poured them all over herself even after I'd told her the spoon was right next to them. I put the jam on her toast she wanted, she took one bite and put it down..and forgot it was there, even when I asked her if she was going to eat a little more, she just gave me a blank stare.

My mom has always been a very intelligent and well spoken woman who's given speeches in front of Congress. To see her like this hurts me to the very core of my soul.
