I had a mid day shift yesterday and when I got home, I was too tired to post. Sorry all! Well, my roommate who was afraid to test, actually tried to test for yesterday's PMBG, but was unsuccessful... the good thing is that she tried and said he was a good boy while she poked him  He's such a trooper! I also slept through the +9 alarm at 3:30am, so his preshot reading is high as usual... I was hoping not to have to continue with the +9 spoonful... it is quite the pain in the rump!

I must say though, I am proud of the captain. He is a very good patient. Now I just have to wait until tomorrow to see what everyone thinks about him staying off or going back on insulin... I just wish his numbers were better without the +9 meals, they really are hard to pull off!

He got his +9 snack today, and of course, was a 96. If he gets the +9, he has a lower preshot number and vice versa. Hmm... no telling how many +9 spoonfuls he will go without in the near future. School and new job starts Monday. Schedule in signature is up to date

woo-hoo! congrats on Day 13, brian & tyler!

i think seeing the effect of the +9 snack just tells you that he's going to really benefit from small meals for the time being. There's nothing magic about it being at +9 - all it does is tell you that 3 hrs after eating, his pancreas has been stimulated to bring down his blood sugar. You could just as easily test 3 hrs after eating any meal.

You've got a full schedule - at least you don't have to worry about tyler becoming hypoglycemic now. I'd continue testing him once a day and if he's over 100, feed him some & test again in 3 hrs when you can. Because he's been running borderline on this throughout the trial, I'd continue being vigilant with him and testing daily, so if he trends upward you don't miss it.

Good luck managing all of it!

Ryan, have you considered a timed feeder for the +9 snack? I have an extra if you want it. PM me.

Besides the timed feeder, you could try freezing cans of FF in baggies and leaving one for him when you go to work and go to bed, so he'll be slowly eating it as it thaws.

Chaos, yes. I was lucky with my diabetic kitties because they were 'top cats' and usually ate most of the food I left out. You could look into one of those boxes with an electronic lock and a collar that only opens the door for the lucky kitty, but that might feel like overkill. :D

Any decision that the trial is officially a success? It sure looks like his pancreas is working, and some cats just run in higher numbers. I have the party on ice waiting for the go-ahead!

Wendy, Marje & I all think we should have Tyler's party! asap!

this might be Tyler's norm off of insulin, and Brian, as long as you keep daily testing, you'll be able to see if he trends up. He may settle down into lower numbers as well. these last 3 days he's had more greens.

for now - let's go for it!
