Left lots of food out for all of them today. No raw food today (need to make a new batch this weekend). Since he is not in isolation, I could not leave food for just him so I left a whole can of Tiki Cat chicken out for all of them to graze on since he is in the shallow end of the water today and I am at work. Picking up B-12 (M) tonight. I'm sure he will be ok. He's been lower than this and has not had a hypo event yet, God willing.

I did notice that he preens a lot - really a lot. I had read that diabetes can make skin itch. He gets several good brushings (it's his treat for sitting still for testing). Do sugarcats tend to clean themselves more than usual?

Hoping all our sugarbabies have a good and safe day. Come splash with Snoball.

Re: 8/22 Snoball AMPS=116

Funny I heard the opposite, they get all dry and flaky and matted and don't preen. Maybe he's just one of those cats that like to look his best. :-D

Hope he does ok for you today.

Re: 8/22 Snoball AMPS=116

I thought it was strange that the rescuers brought cat wipes for me to use on him... What? I am not going to clean this cat - he's in charge of that! But... maybe what this tells me is that when he was really sick (the prior foster mom had him for three weeks and did not give him insulin) and emaciated, he may have not been preening the way he should. I guess I should be happy about it and not worry if it seems a little neurotic.

Re: 8/22 Snoball AMPS=116

I agree to your thoughts, but I understand the wipes too, because they don't clean themselves when they are sick. That's why Preening is one of the '5 P's'. All those things tell you how well your cat is doing. Seems to me he's doing quite well if he's cleaning regularly. :thumbup

Curious to see his pmps. If he goes high tonight or tomorrow, you can pretty much guess he went too low, to be comfortable, today. If he bounces in the next couple cycles, you might want to consider a slight decrease when he's close to say 100 and you won't be there to monitor. Maybe on those days, go for a 1.5U since he's on 1.75U right? Not a lot of decrease just enough to be sure he's ok when you're away. Maybe a fat 1.5. While on Lantus, I have dropped Lucian by larger amounts 1/3 or 1/2 his dosage and with him, it was a disaster and took a week or more for him to get back where he was. Some people will go 50%, some 75%. Some don't shoot at all, it depends on what you're comfortable with. I don't think .25 is enough change to cause a problem, but enough to just keep him up a tiny bit more than he would have. But like everything else you get from me, that's just MHO. :-D

Remember last week when I had to go to court? Lucian's amps was under 100, so I pumped him up with med carb, since I knew I would only be gone half a day and it worked out beautifully. But the difference in Lantus and Lev also makes a difference in what I do now, than what I used to. While on Lantus, if he was under 100 at amps, I refused to go anywhere. I would have had a bench warrant on me if he was still on Lantus! :o

Well I am so glad I followed your advice BEFORE I read it - I did in fact give him a fat 1.5u instead of the 1.75u and I as I expected he stayed pretty flat. See how much I learn from you. I was even a little late this evening because I had to pick up some B-12 from the rescuer. She thinks though, that Snoball may have arthritis instead of neuropathy. We'll see.

It is dangerous to talk to rescue group because I just can't say no. Well, it's only for 12 days... I am taking in a very sick diabetic cat who will only eat dry food (grrrrrrr). She is unregulated, has high numbers and is very skinny. She is getting out of the hospital tomorrow and her new foster mom is a nurse who is going on vacation. So, it's only 12 days. Ugh... have to get out the baby gates. And... she has black ears with long black hair on them. Luckily, she is a sweetheart to test. I just hate the idea of giving her high carb dry food.

Party is at my house tonight -- I got the sample Wild Calling! food in tonight. Cedric, Lucian, Scratchie, Trinity... just come around the back party_cat

Shave those little long haired black ears!!!! Although now that you are so experienced with testing Snoball, you may be able to get the blood drop just fine. Wink has those black ears with long black hair inside and outside his ears and I shaved a tiny spot to see better. It's up to you of course, just an idea I'm throwing out to you.

I was part of the DCIN Tucker Brigade for a couple of weeks. Tucker had black ears but regular fur so we'll see. Might have to shave a little spot. Don't want to make her too funny looking for her new foster mom although that person will be new to testing so it might be easier for her as well.

So now that I hashed out the pros and cons here I think it is a good idea Deb - thanks.

You old softy!

I can't say much, I refuse to even go to Petsmart on Saturday because they have pets there for adoption. Can't do it! The only thing that keeps me from adopting more, is living in a 1 bedroom, 3rd floor apt. Let me get a small house in the country and it's ON!! I honestly doubt I could ever foster, maybe in a situation like you're doing for 12 days, but it would still break my heart to give them back. When it comes to animals, I fall in love in about 30 mins.

But under the right circumstances, I could have several cats, with no problems, I love me some kitties! Finances is a serious issue too, though. I wouldn't have them if I couldn't afford to care for them properly. As it is, mine don't get to the vet near as often as they should. But since they don't go outside and have NO contact with other animals, not even through a screen, I've been lucky.

As long as I've been on the FD boards, it's been in the back of my mind to foster/adopt another fd kitty, just because their chances of being adopted are slim compared to non fd kitties. That hurts me. But I want to be out of this apt before I do. (Or at least be able to afford a 2 bedroom. )
