I just got home from carpal tunnel surgery, and callie just vomited blood. it was about 1 tablespoon of clear liquid with blood. I've been at hospital all day, but Hannah thought she
ate fine. we did a pfs last night trying to prepare for the surgery, but
this am shot went well. I'm updating ss now.

don't know if this 911 or not, but kind of scary. I can change back to ? if that' s better

Wow when is raining its pouring. Sending vines for Callie and you.
yeah, also just had some skin cancer cut out and today found out I have hyperinflated lungs. I've never smoked anything even one time. feeling a bit overwhelmed with bloody vomit on top of that. sorry. tmi

on a positive note, callie just ate. watching for more bloody vomit. waiting for return call from vet.

vet just called back. thought her over grooming (more than usual) might be causing tummy irritation. if it happens again we'll do a kidney panel. that she ate is a good sign. she suggested Prozac or that air stuff (starts with an f). I asked if pheromone collar would help, and she thought that might help. i'll let everyone know. thanks so much.

Prayers for Callie, that it was a one time thing, or that what ever is bothering her is easily treatable.

Wow, Glennie, what a day! Sending you comfort and relaxation vines. Hope that the blood in the vomit is a once and never again thing. It seems to me that once Bubba had a tinge of blood in a vomit but it was after a few episodes close together.

I hope that your lung prognosis is a good one and that the skin cancer is an innocuous kind like basal cell ( I have had a lesion of it cut out of the side of my nose)

Sending healing vines too for your carpal tunnel recovery. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

thanks, bobbie. I am hoping it' s a one time thing also as is the vet. thanks for good vines. lung thing I don't know, but skin thing is yes, just a basal cell. very large, but just basal. should have said that right off. just overwhelmed. if she doesn't vomit bright red blood again tonight, i'll be fine. hand throbbing, but that's to be expected. thanks again.

Feliway can help calm them. Glad the vet wasn't concerned. :bighug:
feliway, that's the word. thanks. I wonder how that compares to pheromone collar? it was a let's see what happens before freaking kind of attitude. no more bloody vomit so far. yay.

They are basically the same thing, just a different company I think. I used the pheromone collar for Sheba and it was very good/ effective.
Is Callie on any medication that could cause the bloody vomit?

thanks, bron. good to know they're basically the same and that it worked for sheba. the pheromone collars have worked well for our cats with various issues. I hadn't thought of using it for the over grooming. hope it works with callie for this over grooming. she's done it since about a month before diagnosis of diabetes. vet also suggested Prozac but hope this works.

she is only on insulin unless she starts vomiting and then cerenia, but good idea. thanks for thoughts.

we did not do the pfs night before last on purpose. we were practicing for after surgery, and it accidentally happened.

In my experience the collar didn't do anything. The diffusers do work for some cats though. I have a crazy cat that NEEDED it... Or we would put her on Prozac. I can always tell when one runs out.

I've never used diffuser. If you can tell when one runs out you know it's helping huh?! :cat: The collars really helped with some of my cats with some things so we'll see if it helps Callie with this. Thanks, Janet. :bighug:

when it runs out Julie is HYPER REACTIVE to everything. If another cat just walks buy her she will lash out... hiss... fight... she was a stray so it's hard to know what her story it, but high strung is putting it mildly. I know other cats beat her up... we watched one that was trying to be her mate knock her over as she was on 3 legs from a leg infection. She was in rough shape. BUT she was great with us, and when we rescued her from the yard my inlawas took her. Well one night about a month after they had taken her there was a loud thunderstorm. a bolt must have hit something nearby that shook the house, and my FIL was in the room at the time. She looked at him and thought HE had scared her. and from that moment on she made it her mission in life to kill him. she would stalk him, and cling on and try to eat him any time she could. After a couple of weeks of this they finally said we either had to take her or put her back outside. I can't blame them really. she didn't do well with our other cats. I grabbed her from attacking my Zimmy and she clamped into MY hand which sent me to the emergency room. I thought she was going to have to either go on prozac or put her back outside. we tried calming sprays and collars and that did nothing. it wasn't until we used the diffusers that we found something that helps. she still has moments, but NOTHING like before. We have two of them going and when one runs out we can tell right away.

Oh dear! I hope things are getting better for you and for your kitty. I would have been terrified...

Re: the carpal tunnel: I've had both hands done (as well as lots of other entertaining surgeries), so please feel free to message me if you have any questions about post-op and recovery. I'm happy to share what I learned and little tricks that help when trying to deal with using just one hand for a while.

Sending lots of hugs to you and your kitty and so hope all goes well for both of you in recovery! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

bless your heart for giving Julie such a loving, caring home, especially with her being difficult. so glad the diffusers work so well for her. life must have been really miserable for her. you wish they could talk, huh?! if it looks like the collar isn't helping callie, i'll try the diffuser before I go to Prozac.

Glennie, I am so sorry - what a day!
Tons of healing vines for both of you
:bighug::bighug::bighug:
thanks, Tanya. I really appreciate it. no more blood at all, which I'm thrilled about, but seems weird. I guess if it was the over grooming, those coarse hairs very well could have irritated her stomach to the point of bleeding. just so thankful she hasn't vomited more.

Darrah, thanks. Any tips would be appreciated. I have to have my other hand done as soon as is feasible. are yours all better?

Yes, it was terrifying. it was a lot of bright red blood. so very thankful it was just that once, at least so far. :bighug:

I sent you a conversation thing: did you get that? I don't know how to link to it, but if you go up to your name at the top and right click on Conversations, you should see it. I'm happy to chat at length about carpal tunnel with you. I had both hands done and my journey was a very interesting one. Both hands are great now, though! Although I was diagnosed really late, unfortunately. Anyway - let's see if we can chat in the Conversation pod.

Hope you all are doing okay now... very glad to hear that the blood was a one-off thing so far. :bighug::bighug:

No, Darrah, I didn't get it. I looked under conversations, and there is nothing there from you. At least nothing I can find. I'll look again or could you repost if it's not too much of a pain. Now I'm curious as to what you had to say about it. :)

Oh, I'm so, so sorry - I thought I'd posted it but I hadn't. I just wrote three conversation posts. I look forward to chatting with you! I hope you and your kitty are doing better today... :bighug:
